“And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them.” - Mark 6:5
For those of us who grew up in a traditionally Christian environment, this is one of the most shocking verses in the Bible.
Jesus had returned to his home town. The people he had grown up with, who knew everything about him and his family and their past, did not believe in him.
As a result the text says he could not do any deeds of power except a few small things. Not that he chose not to but that he could not.
The people in his hometown saw his past. They couldn’t see his future. Even Jesus to be Jesus needed people around him who supported and believed in him.
In order to become the best version of ourselves, it’s important that we surround ourselves with people who believe in us.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
