Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Liz Lemon.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of transforming the space you're in to a place that you'll love to be in? Shockingly, it's closer than you think. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing your neighbor, Daniel, with DBC Solutions. How are you today, Daniel?

Speaker 3:

I'm good, Liz. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2:

You're welcome. Thanks for being on our show today.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely.

Speaker 2:

Tell us about your business. We're so excited to learn about DBC Solutions.

Speaker 3:

Okay, cool, so we do additions, remodeling and outdoor living projects all residential, remodeling and outdoor living projects, all residential and we specialize in our 3D design service and our virtual reality tour. So right from the beginning, we work on creating the perfect design for your new space and we're able to present that to you in 3D. And then we've even got to the stage now where we can come in your home and put a VR headset on you and you can walk around and see what your new space is going to look like before we even start construction.

Speaker 2:

Wow, how did you get into the business?

Speaker 3:

I got into the business because it's interesting, I guess. I mean, both of my grandfathers were into like carpentry and woodworking, but neither one of them made a living doing it. They just did it as like hobby. And then my dad my dad was a truck driver but he always told me as a kid, like I want you to be a carpenter, you should be a carpenter. So I guess he just drilled it into my head. And when I was, when I got to ready to go to high school, you know, they gave me an option to go to a trade school. So I chose that and I went and I took carpentry classes and I've been practicing in the field, you know, foundation work, siding, roofing, like everything to do with residential construction my whole life, so.

Speaker 2:

And then I started my business in 2004, originally, that's great, keeping it in the family and definitely dedicated to doing it that long. What are the myths and misconceptions within your industry?

Speaker 3:

I was, uh, really happy to see this question on here. Because of this one uh misconception that I'm, you know, I, I guess I would say I'm actively trying to change about our, our industry um, and that is well, bringing respect and dignity back to the trades, um, and and it all stems around. I guess, free estimating it's just, it's just what people expect from, from our industry, um, and I guess that's just. I don't really know why or how that all started, but there's still lots of people. I mean, it's just an industry standard, right? I mean, when it comes to construction, that's what you expect to pick up the phone, come over to my house, um, answer all my questions and then prepare a detailed estimate for me, and then I may or may not hire you, um.

Speaker 3:

So we've developed a pretty unique system. We're not the only ones that do it, but and how we start is we ask you to send in a project walkthrough video, um. So let's say, you're doing a kitchen room model, um, you know, we just take your, you just take your smartphone and kind of walk around the space and as you're, as you're, shooting the video, you talk as if I'm standing right next to you, um, and then we schedule a zoom consultation where I ask all the decision makers to be on the call and we just kind of walk through and get everybody's input, answer your questions and by the end of the call we'll be able to offer a ballpark price range of where we think the project will land, based on what other clients have invested in similar projects. And then, if it makes sense, we take the next step and we come out and shake hands and take measurements and get the ball rolling.

Speaker 2:

Great, that's smart and innovative, for sure too. Being able to kind of just have that one-on-one virtual tour ahead of time, that's very interesting. Outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, well, I like live music. Phish is my favorite band, so I spend a lot of time, you know, going to see live music and I also fly remote control airplanes. I have a pretty, pretty extensive collection, I'll say.

Speaker 2:

That's exciting. Definitely two different ways to staying grounded and staying inspired and kind of just staying active and it's great summer weather out there, right.

Speaker 3:

Oh, it's a little warm this year, but yeah, it's that time of year for sure.

Speaker 2:

Let's change gears just for a moment. Can you describe one hardship or life challenges that you rose above and can now say, because of it, you're better and stronger? What comes to mind? So another one that I was happy to're better and stronger.

Speaker 3:

So another one that I was happy to see on here. It's one that I tell people all the time I quit smoking cigarettes, and it was 20 years ago, but, um and it's. It's not just about, like, the health aspects of it or the financial aspects of it, but for me it's about like being in control and and like when I, when I was finally able to put that part of my life behind me permanently, it just made me feel powerful. You know, and I can always kind of revert back to that if I could do that, I can do anything.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely Congratulations on that, and definitely there's definitely a lot to be learned with quitting smoking, for sure. So, yeah, if you can do that, you can do anything. That's fantastic, exactly, yeah. What is the one thing you wish our listeners knew about? Dbc Solutions.

Speaker 3:

Well, we know our numbers. We've been doing this for a really long time, so sales is part of what we do because we're in business. We have to sell things to stay in business, but we don't really sell things. I don't consider myself a salesman. I get on the phone with you and try to solve your problems and then offer you solutions to solve those problems, again based on, you know, financially, based on what other clients have invested in similar projects, you know. So we just don't, we're not really selling. We're just, you know, solving your problem and telling you how we can do it and how much it costs to do it.

Speaker 2:

That's fantastic. How can our listeners learn more about DBC Solutions?

Speaker 3:

Thanks for asking. Our telephone number is 860-341-6373. And our website is dbcsolutions. No com or anything, just dot solutions. That's that kind of trips people up sometimes. Um, we're on facebook, instagram, linkedin, all that good stuff that's great, real quick.

Speaker 2:

What does dbc stand for?

Speaker 3:

my dan bennett. It was originally when I first started the business. It was called dan bennett carpent and then somewhere along the way I changed it to DBC Solutions.

Speaker 2:

That's fantastic. Kept, part of the other name, I like that, yeah. Well, daniel, I really appreciate you being on the show and we wish you and your business the best moving forward.

Speaker 3:

Awesome. Thanks for having me, liz, it was a pleasure.
