This is the Morning Sports Take with Kate Thomas and Zach Schroeder.

Kate:

Good Friday morning. Oh my goodness. So thankful it is Friday. I'm sure a lot of you out there are too. This is the Morning Sports. Take right here on Fox Sports Pensacola 101.FM. I'm Kate Thomas, zach Schroeder, jim Cagle. We have got a slam-packed show and yes, I should have said a slam-dunked or dunked show today, after we had game one of the NBA finals. It looks like Zach and I were right on our predictions. We'll get into that. The Boston Celtics get the win over the Mavs. Also, oklahoma Sooners for their softball for Pete.

Zach:

Oh yeah.

Kate:

Oh yeah, that was a big one. Lots of MLB action. Of course we'll talk about the Blue Wahoos. We'll talk about the Tampa Bay Rays MLB action Of course we'll talk about the Blue Wahoos, we'll talk about the Tampa Bay Rays. There is just a lot going on. Stanley Cup is coming up as well, so, look, you are in for a good one today, zach. I went to Roe's yoga class last night.

Zach:

Yeah, I was going to ask you, how did that go it?

Kate:

went amazing and Roe, if you're listening, shout out to you Thank you for coming on our show. Also, we have a special guest as well coming on today from Code Ninjas, Stephanie Steger. She'll be coming in at the 845 hour, so stay tuned for that. But let's talk about the class I went to. It was a little different spin on yoga.

Zach:

It was called.

Kate:

Trap Yoga. So what that means. You was called trap yoga. So what that means you work out your traps.

Zach:

Is that how that goes?

Kate:

Yeah, yeah, well, we can say that. No, they play trap music while you do yoga. Anyways, I think they were impressed by some of the moves I had, even with my gimp ankle.

Zach:

That seems like it would counter itself If I'm trying to call myself, but then the rap's playing.

Kate:

you know what it was what was interesting is and you can ask anyone who knows me well, even you guys, since I've started this show with you all and so grateful to be here again love you too, but one of my favorite things to do is dance. My fiance was like will you just like go take a dance class somewhere so you can just get it out, because I dance for the dogs.

Zach:

usually they're my audience when Justin Jefferson gets signed. When Justin Jefferson gets signed.

Kate:

So for me, the trap yoga was actually. It was kind of soothing, because when I'm stressed out or when I'm happy or just anytime, I like to dance. So it was interesting in that at the end we did have a really nice meditation and it wasn't too difficult. She worked with every single person and really was able to work with me, because right now my ankle is not in the best shape, so she made sure I wasn't doing any moves or anything in order to injure myself any further. But should we go ahead and get into it, zach, when we talk about injuries? 38 days since he's played, he's missed 10 games. Chris Stapps, prazingas, I was texting you last night. Yeah, I was like, oh my goodness, now I knew and I felt like the Celtics were going to come out extremely electric and one you got to love how they began the game with their Walton tanks on and the tribute and everything like that.

Speaker 10:

That was so beautiful.

Kate:

I mean even Kyrie. It was a mixed seemed like a mixed boo cheer. Could y'all tell from the TV screen what you heard? Was it a mixed boo cheer to you when Kyrie came out?

Zach:

Bit of a mix, like you said. Yeah. Bit of a mix, because I heard some boos and then I heard some cheers, but mostly boos, really Mostly boos.

Kate:

And we all know that's because of Kyrie's past, ever since he did leave the Celtics and that's expected. It is expected. I mean, look, you've got Mark Wahlberg in the audience and I don't know what it is about sports in Boston because my sister used to live in Boston. She went to college there. But their fan base it's almost like the fan bases are for college football in the South.

Jim:

Sure.

Kate:

Is it just? I mean, there's a lot to do in Boston.

Zach:

That's accurate.

Kate:

You know there's tons to do. So it's not like all they have is sports, like in the South. I think we're all so into it because, well, here at the beach we've got plenty in it. In Pensacola there's plenty to do. But you know, I'm from Mobile, alabama. Then I lived in the middle of nowhere Louisiana for time to time and you know a lot outside. It's interesting. I don't know why Boston fans are, maybe because Boston has been there for so long and maybe because they've already got 17 banners hanging in the garden and they're seeking their 18th. Maybe that's why they're so crazy.

Zach:

Well, I heard a stat it was the 71st home playoff game.

Kate:

Wow.

Zach:

Or no. Finals game. 71st finals, home finals game hosted at TD Garden wow are they the only team that has that stat?

Kate:

oh, yeah.

Zach:

I mean the only one close would be the Lakers, um, but yeah, I mean, of course they're going to pack the house because in their history, 71 times they've hosted a NBA finals game. That's more than probably 28 or 25 of the other NBA teams combined. So that's very, very impressive stat there for Boston. But you know, you mentioned the over-under for 90 for Dallas and I should have taken the under because 89. Exum went in for that layup and he missed it.

Speaker 6:

He blew it.

Zach:

And I was hoping he would make it to hit the over for what you said and I don't know. So don't listen to me when it comes to sports betting.

Kate:

Well, I was thinking about what my bet was yesterday and I'm pretty sure I said 104 to 98. I think that was my score prediction. So I got pretty close to what the Celtics got to. I was only off by three points 107. Yeah, I said 115 to 95, boston, and then if I just would have switched the numbers around from the 98, I could have got it completely right, you know, to an 89 instead of a 98.

Zach:

So I thought I predicted Boston would win by 20. They won by 18, so not bad, no, 19. 19 points, that's you know. I'll take it. No, it is 19 points, that's you know I'll take it, no it is. It is 20. I don't know, my math is not mathing this morning. That's all right.

Kate:

Don't ask me to do math yet, because my coffee hasn't kicked in, I kept on trying to make my coffee. I slipped my hand open this morning. This is. You know, I'm always injured. I'm like these athletes out here I'm always injured Trying to feed the dogs on the dog can food If I need to go get a tetanus, shot y'all let me know. I don't know. I think I'll be okay.

Zach:

I think I'll be all right. I'm not a doctor. He said I'm not.

Kate:

Any doctors in the house? Please let us know. This is what was the big thing, though. In last night's game with the Celtics, their defense showed up. Just it was amazing. They were so extremely dominant on defense. It's like, especially when you looked at the first quarter, I mean, the Mavs could barely do anything, and then I just felt like there was something off with Dallas. It seems like I don't know if they were nervous, but even when they were making shots, they weren't making smart shots and they weren't. I don't know if they were nervous, but even when they were making shots, they weren't making smart shots and they weren't. I don't know. It just seems like they were kind of just shooting just to get the ball off, and I know sometimes you do have to do that because you've got to do whatever it takes when you are down right, Just get the ball to the board, See if it's going to sink in, but it wasn't sinking in, and then, until they did go on a run, what was that? Is that in the third or in the second?

Zach:

I can't even remember at this point they had two runs, one in the second, another in the third, to bring it within like eight points, but then Boston just ran away with it. But yeah, you're right about the defense, because we didn't see what was off with Dallas was they couldn't run their offense properly because Boston's defense was so good and that's in large part because of Chris Tapp's poor zingness.

Kate:

Oh, my gosh.

Zach:

He had three blocks, and even Jalen Brown with three blocks, Al Horford with two and Al Horford is he's playing pretty well for being 38 years old. He's playing. I'll give him that.

Kate:

That's incredible I enjoy watching Al Horford play. He might be one of, I don't know. I just like this Celtics team. I've said it before. They're a team to me that I feel like might go down in history. I don't know, you've got so. Their whole team is just so stacked. And then their coach. Yes, he's a younger coach. He might not look as young as he really is. I think he's 36 or 38.

Speaker 4:

He's young.

Kate:

He might be even younger than that, he might be 35. But he's created such a good relationship with his team and then with his players and it just seems like they all feed off of each other so well. And it's like Kristaps Przingis never, ever missed one game. It's like he was never even injured. He's just smiling, just playing ball blocking.

Zach:

That's what you have to do Making shots from like almost half court.

Kate:

I mean, wow, could you imagine what they would have done with him throughout the rest of the playoffs beforehand, before he got injured?

Zach:

Well, they only played beat-up teams, so they didn't really need him.

Kate:

They didn't, they swept everybody, and now they have him Because everybody was beat up.

Zach:

Everybody was playing their third string. So I mean, of course they're going to make it to the finals. Anyway, yeah, I mean Dallas. Last night nobody really stepped up to help Luka. He had 30 points, but it didn't seem like 30 points, if that makes sense.

Kate:

It does.

Zach:

Just the game ended and there you go Luka had 30. Surprise, surprise. We're used to seeing this from Luka from pretty much every performance. And then Kyrie Irving only 12. He didn't really, you know, he made some difficult shots here and there, but outside of that, you know he got locked up. And then you look at their centers Derek Jones, daniel Gafford, derek Lively five points, eight points, two points that's combined 15 points. Really Nothing too crazy from them either. So Boston's defense, give them credit. But I still think Dallas has a chance. I believe they're going to take game two and I believe we're going to see a 2011 type repeat of the NBA finals where Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks took down Miami Heat with LeBron in that stack team.

Kate:

I think we'll see, that was a good NBA finals.

Zach:

We'll see it. I think Luka's that next, you know that next Dallas white guy that steps up and is just extremely talented, and Luka's more talented than Dirk Nowitzki and I think that's fair to say.

Kate:

Whoa, you know what?

Zach:

I agree.

Kate:

Yes, I agree, but Dirk is still probably top 20 of all time NBA greats, or top 25. I'll give him top 25.

Zach:

Well, I'm not putting him in a certain category, I'm just saying Luka's more talented, that's all.

Kate:

Luka's more talented and his best friend is Joker.

Kate:

You know, and then he's got Kyrie by his side to help coach him up and then most of the time when you're watching Luka compete, he really is having fun. I don't know how much fun he necessarily was having in last night's competition just because they were down and he was trying to do everything in his power and he was he. He is a guy who typically, I think, does like to lean on Kyrie at times, but unfortunately for Kyrie, just last night was not his best performance. It just really wasn't, and you would think he would have came in there a little bit more dominant A team he's previously played for. He's now got a chance to get another ring and I thought I was going to see a lot more athleticism or just craziness from Kyrie. Not saying that he played an awful game, but it was not obviously one of his best, especially when you only have 12 points.

Kate:

Yeah, for his his standards, I would say that's an awful game yeah it is really it is and and he's older too, he's 31, he's he's one that I'm hoping that maybe after last night's game he went into the locker room and he went and he spoke to the rest of his teammates and I'm not sure on this or not, I haven't seen anything and I'm sure there is something out there. But since he's already been to an NBA championship, he's already played in an environment like this, because he played for the Celtics again, like at one point in time, obviously his ring with the Heat and LeBron. But look, he should be able to go out there and say, hey, it may not always go the way you want it, game one, but we have got to get out there each and every single game. We cannot sleep on any of these games. We don't want to be swept, we don't want to lose.

Kate:

Game two I think actually, if the Mavs can play really a more team sport tonight you know Luca did have his 30 points, but I want to see them passing and just making better judgment when you know they are out there before they start shooting, so they can get the balls actually in the hoop Instead of just yes, I know you've got to throw, throw, throw, throw, but you want it to sink in, and if it's not sinking in, you're not putting points on the board again. And they really weren't for a long time. When I turned the game on because I I came in after the trap yoga class I had recorded it and had to rewind and then go back. When I turned on, I was just amazed by the score. I thought that the Mavs would at least have a little bit more than they did yeah, I, I'm with you because they had like 33 points almost at halftime, that's brutal that's not.

Zach:

That's not what you want in a finals game or really any NBA game. But I have to ask you this what are your thoughts for game two? I mean, what do? What does Dallas need to do to have a chance?

Kate:

well, dallas is going to have to figure something out to go up against the Celtics in their defense. They cannot allow the Celtics defense to do to them what they did to them last night in game one. That defense was so dominant they were guarding everywhere. They cannot allow them to do that. They've got to open up lanes. They've got to start coming up with better game plans. I mean, look, throw it from half court if you have to. If you can make that shot, I don't care. Do literally whatever it takes. Care, do literally whatever it takes.

Kate:

Use each player on your team to their best ability. It's like you know how sometimes you'll have those star players. We've seen it with LeBron or ball hogs, and I don't think really anyone on the Mavs is necessarily a ball hog, not even Luka, even with his 30 points. But I just want to see them play together more. It seems like they were discombobulated or something last night, or they were nervous, I don't. They just were off. They were completely off. They cannot be off tonight. They need to come in there hungry and realizing that they literally I don't think that you can even lose game two if you're the Dallas Mavericks to be honest, because what is that going to do to their mindset?

Kate:

I think if you can get a road win Because what is that going to do to their mindset? I think if you can get a road win and they've been able to do it in the playoffs already this season if you can go on the road and win, then that proves that you can do it in a really crazy loud environment. However, I did hear an interview where Kyrie was saying you know, it really wasn't that loud in there. And then I was listening to another broadcaster who was at the game and he said I don't know what the heck Kyrie was talking about. Maybe Kyrie was drowning out the noise, he said but yes, it was absolutely loud in there. You barely could hear anything. But maybe Kyrie was challenging the Celtics fans to come at them even harder and be even louder. Maybe he likes that. Maybe that's going to give him a little bit more of an adrenaline rush so he can come into tonight's game.

Kate:

Him and Luka have to play a better game together, but I want to see Derek Lively step up. Jones can step up. They've got players on their team who can step up and who can get it done. It doesn't have to be just Luka and Kyrie. You've got other teammates. Let everybody I'm going to sound like Bill Belichick for a second Do your job, do the thing that you're best at and you're greatest at, and I think if they all do what they're great at and then work together, they'll be able to pull out a win. And also, you can't let the Celtics defense do what they did yeah so I guess that's my take, my very long-winded ranted take.

Zach:

I like it what about you?

Kate:

I mean everything. You just said yeah, do you agree, or?

Zach:

well, you're right, the Dallas centers, they need to step up. They're big men, like you just mentioned Derek, derek Lively, derek Jones, daniel Gafford, they all have to step up. If they can't step up I mean Luka and Kyrie, look, basketball is a team sport. They can't beat a stacked Celtics team with six people, six players who can go out there and drop 20-plus points. They just can't do it. They can't take down such a stacked team with just two people.

Kate:

You can't. So this is something I noticed because they've got the game up on the TV next to us when I was watching. Do you remember the one play from the Timberwolves and Mavs game where it was like Luka threw it, like he fell and he threw the ball back to Kyrie? He got it, kyrie threw it I can't even think of the other guys and the guy dunked on it. It was like crazy. It's been one of the most watched plays so far in the NBA playoffs. Do you know which play I'm talking about from the playoffs? So when I was watching the Celtics play last night, it looked like they had either been watching that play and then they had started maybe thinking and starting getting in the room together and coming up with more creative ways to play, because some of the passes and some of the different things that they were doing last night were creative and they were able to get to the basket and they were making shots. I don't know.

Zach:

Yeah, dallas has a lot of corrections to make. That's all I'll say. They have a lot of adjustments to do because they can't lose by 20 or better, yet they can't lose at all against Boston they can't too, because Boston does have home court advantage moving down uh during the rest of the series.

Zach:

Say, dallas takes it to seven games. Boston has that final advantage for game seven. So that'll be really interesting to watch, but I believe dallas will win next game. Game two will be sunday afternoon. I believe seven o'clock is tip off for that one. And it's interesting, boston is well. The point spread just went up. It's seven and a half points now. It was six and a half two minutes ago literally just went up.

Kate:

That's vegas for you.

Zach:

So Boston 7.5 point favorite against the Dallas Mavs at home. I could see it Understandable. They just got blown out by 20. I'm surprised the spread isn't even larger.

Kate:

I can't either, because another thing the Mavericks only had nine assists last night. That is some of the fewest assists in finals game in NBA history. Luka only had one. I think he tried for maybe three or something, but that's what I'm saying. It's a team sport again.

Zach:

And only seven three-pointers. For the Mavs too, that was a big difference as well. The Celtics with 16 three-pointers last night, shooting uh 38 from the field, they put up 42 threes.

Kate:

That's insane guard your man, and that's what the boston celtics did last night. All right, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you there.

Kate:

No, you're good, I think that's our rant, though for the it is it is the rant, and we could go on and talk about it forever, but yeah, I mean, I just think. I just think the Mavs they have to win. I would like to see them win. But before we get off the Mavs topic and we can get back to this, you know what? Let's get back to some more Dallas, mavericks and Boston Celtics, basically our take of the Game 1 championship from last night. We'll also talk a little bit more MLB action. I don't have mine either, I don't know what's going on If you're listening to Rousey Poet. We will take a delivery. But, yeah, fresh roasted coffee, espresso drinks, Americano cappuccinos, lattes. Personally, I love getting one of their signature drinks, the Milton. I'll compare it to a caramel latte, but it's so much more than that. That's just what I compare it to. I'm not a barista, so I don't know. I'm doing them a disservice by describing their coffee, but some of their signature drinks Shakespeare, Milton, the Poe, Byron Chai, Latte, Chai I'm embarrassing myself this morning.

Kate:

No, it's not. Yesterday I went on a meeting and I first said Chai, and then I was like no, it's Chai.

Zach:

Yeah, it's chai, it happens Anyway. Real fruit smoothies, italian sodas. And then they have food as well. So it's not just beverages, but food Sandwiches, salads, gourmet baked goods let's see Rocky Road brownies, blueberry muffins, bagels.

Kate:

Carrot coffee cake.

Zach:

Oh my goodness, I had that the other day.

Kate:

It is so good oh, my goodness, I'm gonna need to get that, did you? And this is something else that they do. That's pretty neat. They can, um, do a catered coffee full espresso bar for your an event. So that's pretty neat yeah I didn't even know that I didn't either and I I think we need just a catered uh coffee full espresso bar right here behind us in the studio they need to open up a location in our garage.

Zach:

Yeah, we'll open up a location.

Kate:

But, speaking of locations, they do have two different ones. They've got one on Brent Lane, 86 Brent Lane, and they just opened one up, I think, over on Davis Highway too, but the main location is that Brent Lane, one that, uh, that you go to all the time.

Zach:

Yeah, yeah, brent Lane, that's the one I go to.

Jim:

You know we touched about everything inside the building right, but the outside? Of the building is pretty important as well, because they built it with the customer in mind. That is the easiest in and out of location that you can find for coffee, in my opinion.

Kate:

In and out with ease, ease and you can't even do that at the other, uh, big named one no even with their little to go. You still can't do it you still and and and I just love their um branding.

Jim:

It's just so amazing a lot of times, people in the morning they they don't want to change the routine. Well, this is worth it, because this actually will enhance your routine. It will enhance your day. The speed in which you get in and out I mean it, it's a big deal and then the speed that it gives you after you drink the coffee You'll be geeked up, you'll be glad you did it.

Kate:

Geeked up. I haven't heard that one.

Zach:

That's the speed I need right now, that's the speed Zach needs. The Speed I need.

Kate:

We've got jokes. We like to joke and have a good time on this show, do we?

Zach:

want to. Let's reel it back to some baseball action. All right, some baseball action why don't we reel it back to some baseball action Before we get to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Rays were not in action last night. They will be back today. They get a rare day off. Yesterday they're slacking.

Kate:

Yeah, that's all I'll say A day off. Can you believe that?

Zach:

What's going on Tampa, so they'll take on the Orioles today. I understand now why they needed the rest. Baltimore is a very good team 39-22. They're second in the American League East. The Rays fourth in the American League East, so this is a division rivalry. This is a very important series for the Rays taking on one of the best in their division. So we'll keep you updated after the weekend how their series goes with the Rays or with the Orioles.

Kate:

Excuse me, and it's going to be a tough one. The Orioles one of the most dominant teams in the MLB, I think, across the league this season. I got to go on an off story because yesterday I got a call from one of my good old coaching buddies. He coached at Southern University out of Baton Rouge, louisiana. His name's Coach Roger Cador. They call him Coach Cador. He's just a legend.

Kate:

He's got a very deep Louisiana accent and you know he's an older gentleman, so he's always like how you doing, baby, you know and and it's just, it's sincere, it's not really he's not trying to be any type of way with it, but him and I sat and spoke last night. We talked about the Orioles actually in our conversation and we talked about our friend Ben McDonald, who's now one of their radio broadcasters over there. And it's just, the Orioles haven't always been good. I mean, they've been a team. I think that's been built. They're consistent here and there, but this is like their year. There's something going on over there. So the Rays, they've got a big job coming up for them. So on the day off they better rest up and be thinking about what are they going to do so they can defeat them right.

Zach:

Absolutely.

Kate:

Juan Soto Yankees. He exits with some forearm discomfort. He's set for testing, so that's another kind of big topic right now in the MLB. You never like to see any injuries and we keep on seeing them. We even saw something I don't know if you guys saw.

Zach:

I hate him, I hate him, I hate him. Ronald Acuna for the Braves, that's one of their best player. And then Juan Soto, now dealing with something, he's their second best player, behind Aaron Judge. I would say that's fair to say. This is man taken away from the game. Right, but sorry, what were you saying?

Kate:

Well, you know, sometimes when I don't have my coffee, I get a little sidetracked. I don't know what I was saying. Zach, I really don't Train of thought lost that train has now left the station.

Speaker 4:

That's on me. I interrupted you.

Speaker 1:

No, you're good. You said Juan Soto was the forearm there was another injury.

Kate:

I think it was a Kansas City Chiefs player had a seizure. I want to say the other day and we're hoping that he's okay, I want to look back into that but we've talked a lot about health and wellness on this show and for athletes how important that is, how important nutrition is, how important strength and conditioning is, the fact that you have a good athletic trainer. I think what there's? There's some missing piece and there has been, and this is something we sort of brought up yesterday. But there's been a disconnect between teams because obviously each team has their own set of their athletic staff and their trainers who work with their athletes, but then when athletes aren't training with the actual team, they've got their own personal trainer or regimen that they do. Do you think between these two regimens, that has anything to do with injuries or is there something that can be done about it? I mean, do you have any thoughts at all on that scenario?

Zach:

so are you saying athletes that are out of tune with the team, the team medical staff?

Kate:

right like a tom Tom Brady type scenario back in the day.

Zach:

I don't think so. Yeah, probably not.

Kate:

I don't know what it is, but basically just take care of yourself, stay hydrated. At the high school level every beginning of football season, usually up until it gets I don't know, I want to say October, november all you see is kids dropping like flies, dropping like flies, dropping like flies, and it's because they're not hydrated.

Zach:

Yeah.

Kate:

So it just speaks to the importance of how much nutrition just taking care of your body and when you're an athlete and you're getting paid literally gazillions of millions of dollars. I would hope that these guys and I think they do the best they can you still have to try to live a normal life outside of that.

Zach:

And that's why I love having people in here like professionals in acupuncture, yoga, chiropractors, doctors, to give advice to these athletes. Hey, this is what you need to be doing. To give advice to these athletes. Hey, this is what you need to be doing Maybe a little untraditional ways of keeping your body in tip-top shape and having certain forms of wellness for your body, for injury prevention, basically. So you know, I'm not sure what these routines of these professional athletes are looking like, but clearly a change needs to be made because Maybe it's they're playing too many games in some of these sports.

Zach:

Maybe they're doing all of those things, but maybe it's their diet could be a huge thing.

Kate:

Well, I think they could afford probably an in-home chef if they really wanted to, as much as some of these players get paid. If I got paid that much. You better guarantee that I'm having an in-home chef and at least someone to clean the bathtub and the toilet.

Jim:

Yeah, preach.

Kate:

Preach on that? I think it's that. But when you look at even basketball and baseball, how many games are in the baseball season?

Kate:

A hundred and fifty something sixty, when you're playing that many games and then even at basketball there's so many. I think that's also a portion. So then you've got not only that many games, then you've got practice, then you're traveling. It's hard enough to. Even when I travel and take a flight back and forth I'm exhausted, and these guys are doing it all the time and then they're not getting to, and you know how. There's a thing about sleeping in your own bed. Do you all have a thing like that?

Kate:

It's always different, like if you're at a hotel.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Kate:

I don't know, I just don't sleep as well sometimes. If I be, factors, who knows? We have got a very special guest coming up from Code Ninja, Stephanie Steger. I think she's probably waiting outside the door. So here when we take a break we'll go get her and we'll talk to her about her organization and what it does for kids. We also might get into a little bit of WNBA action because the Sky they had some confrontation outside of their team hotel in Washington DC. So make sure you stay tuned. This is Fox Sports Pensacola.

Speaker 11:

The Dan Patrick Show. Dan and the Danettes and you, weekdays 9 am on Fox Sports Radio, fox Sports.

Speaker 6:

Radio. Hi there, this is Ivan Streckel, owner of Frontier Motors. What sets Frontier Motors apart from the competition in Pensacola? Number one we've got 400 cars in stock in one location. Number two we unlock every single car every morning. Number three we give you a price list so you know exactly what we're asking for every single price. And the most important thing, number four we're the only dealership I know of that advertises an out-the-door price immediately. What that means we'll give you a discounted price and the taxes, the title and dock, because most people want to shop. They want to go to different dealers to see if they're getting a good deal. Well, how do you do you do that? You got to get an out-the-door price and it's like pulling teeth at some of these dealers to get an out-the-door price. At Frontier Motors, we volunteer the price so you can go to the competition and see who's got the better deal. Now, we wouldn't offer that if we didnier Motors at 230 Beverly Parkway, the home of free advice. Are you looking for your forever?

Speaker 4:

It's the best part of my day Sports sports, sports, sports, sports sports.

Speaker 5:

All the kids are falling prey to me. Fox Sports Pensacola.

Zach:

Good morning everybody. This is Fox Sports Pensacola. Good morning everybody. This is Fox Sports Pentacola. The morning sports take. I'm Zach Schroeder, kay Thomas and Jim Cagle joining you this morning, on this fine Friday morning, national Donut Day.

Kate:

Hot Friday morning. Hot National Donut Day it's muggy out there and we made our guests stand out there. Sorry, we do have Stephanie Stager in the building, but we're going to get to a little baseball action first, yes, a lot of MLB action taking place.

Zach:

Last night, of course, the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Toronto Blue Jays, the Blue Jays taking care of Baltimore, 6-5. The Rays were not in action yesterday. They will be taking on the Orioles in a three-game series over the weekend and we'll have those results for you on the flip side of the weekend. But sticking with yesterday, the San Diego Padres took on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the former World Series. Well, arizona appeared in the World Series last year. They took care of the Padres, 4-3. Kansas City Royals took care of the Cleveland Guardians 4-3. Seattle Mariners downing the Oakland A's 3-zip. La Dodgers, pittsburgh Pirates.

Kate:

Mad.

Zach:

Dodgers taking care of Pittsburgh. This one 11-7. It's because Paul Skeens wasn't pitching. We all know the real reason.

Kate:

Well, chapman was on the worst takes for today, so he was at number 10 for when he slammed his glove down on the mound. So, anyways, go ahead. That's a tough one.

Zach:

The Atlanta Braves taking care of the Washington Nationals 5-2. The New York Yankees taking care of the Minnesota Twins, who have been on a little streak here. The Yankees taking care of them 8-5. And Juan Soto with that forearm discomfort, whatever that means hopefully nothing, but we'll definitely be in tune with what's going on with Juan Soto and the Yankees. The Cincinnati Reds are on a roll here taking care of the Chicago. The Chicago Cubs eight to four. The Cincinnati Reds are seven and three in their last 10 games and they're on a five game, ellie De La Cruz.

Kate:

Whoo, he is such a star man. I got to see him in spring training, did you? Yes, and it was amazing.

Zach:

Well, they're on a five-game win streak. So, whatever they're doing, keep doing it because it's working. The Colorado Rockies took care of the St Louis Cardinals, 3-2, and the Boston White Sox taking on the Chicago White Sox, boston, Boston winning at 14-2. Huge win there for Boston. So, kate, if that's one of your teams, you have a reason to be happy this morning. You know I do like the Red Sox, but I'm starting to become a Guardians fan Slowly, oh, just starting, because they have a 40-plus win season so far.

Kate:

Well, no, Well, my fiancé, it's his favorite team, so we went. The spring training game that we did get to go to was Guardians and Cincinnati Reds and it was just incredible. So, yeah, that, and I like the I don't know. I just y'all can call me a bandwagoner, if you want.

Zach:

Oh, we will.

Kate:

I know you will. I know you will Believe that.

Zach:

All right, let's bring it down to the local level. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos took on the Mississippi Braves last night. They took them down 4-3, and Eric Bramer has the Wahoos update on the win over Mississippi.

Speaker 10:

Morning everybody. This is Blue Wahoos broadcaster Eric Bramer with your Wahoos update Months years from now. We might remember last night as the Joe Mack game the Pensacola catcher and prospect had a coming out party of sorts a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and two caught stealing attempts from behind the plate in the seventh and the eighth. As the Wahoos rallied to win a very important game over the Braves by a score of four to three, wahoos will try and make it two wins in a row tonight. First 1,000 fans to arrive receive a blue Wahoos retro poster presented by Bubba's Sweet Spot. Gates open at 5, first pitch at 6.05. We hope you can join us in person, but if you can't you can join me and Carter Bainbridge on the Blue Wahoos Baseball Network. You can tune in on bluewahooscom slash radio or the MILB app. This has been Eric Bramer with your Wahoos update A retro poster.

Kate:

That's what I was about to say. I want that you should see the lines of people who line up to get these things. One time they gave away one of those Hawaiian blue Wahoos shirts and I mean the line was literally wrapped around the building While we're talking and we're on the diamond right now, gotta give a shout out to Oklahoma and their softball team. For Pete, this group of seniors. I mean it's absolutely amazing. Under the leadership of coach Patty Gasto they completely swept Texas. So big shout out to the Sooners Good job ladies.

Kate:

Four-peat, four-peat, yeah, no, they're incredible, so they actually got to put their hands up with four while they held the trophy. Ridiculous got to put their hands up with four while they held the trophy ridiculous, absolutely outstanding. Uh, we do have a very special guest with us this morning. Uh, have we hit all of our baseball talk?

Zach:

yeah, yeah, I mean aside from college. Yeah, well, we'll get to that. We'll get to that, though, now, so we've got stephanie stager.

Kate:

She's with uh code ninjas. Stephanie, thank you so much for coming in studio this morning. Thanks for having me. Good morning, absolutely. First off, just give everyone as quick as you can what is Code Ninjas? What do you guys do? What's your mission?

Speaker 9:

Okay. At Code Ninjas, kids spend a lot of time on screens, so they say on average five hours per day, and that's not getting any less as we progress with more technology. And at Code Ninjas we seek to make children producers instead of consumers of technology. So what we're doing is teaching them really how to use it soup to nuts so they really know what they're doing and in the future they can use the things that they use at Code Ninja in their career if they choose to go into technology.

Kate:

And STEM's becoming such a big deal as we've seen technology evolve. Now we've got AI and robots everywhere and all of this kind of stuff, so this actually will help kids in their future. One thing that I thought that you said when we met yesterday. As you said, something really important that it teaches kids is logic. Yes, can you kind of dive in and tell me a little bit more about that?

Speaker 9:

Sure, absolutely. We start really young, so we start with five five-year-olds. Five to seven-year-olds often can't read, so what we do is we use pictures and we're teaching them logic. So in learning logic, they're able to go into the coding languages because they're all logic-based and they're able to do those. But it's also a skill that they can use in life, because when you're using logic, you're learning that feelings aren't facts, and so you're really learning to use your mind to work through things and overcome your feelings, and so that're really learning to use your mind to work through things and overcome your feelings, and so that really helps.

Zach:

Where did this idea come from, and how long has Code Ninjas been a thing?

Speaker 9:

Code Ninjas has been around for a while. I can't give you the exact date, but I know the local Code Ninjas has been here for right at a year.

Kate:

Well, you guys have a lot of summer camp events and different things going on. Can you tell our audience a little bit about that, when those are and where they? Can find all the information on it.

Speaker 9:

Sure, absolutely. Our website's going to be the best place to go. So Code Ninjas, Pensacola just Google Code Ninjas Pensacola or codeninjascom slash Pensacola, and you'll see our summer camp schedule and coming up next week. You mentioned AI. We actually have a summer camp coming up for AI next week and in the month of August we also have a parents' night out for robotics, which you also mentioned. We have some robotics camps coming up. We have all of our camps listed on our website, If you just go check our website no-transcript.

Speaker 9:

How many kids attend these camps on average? Uh, it depends on the camp. Um, we have about 10 slots per camp usually and we can make a little bit more room. Like, uh, how to become a youtuber was a very, very popular camp this year I bet it was we actually had to create two new camps for that, so it was very popular have you?

Kate:

Have you ever seen, you know, when kids are in kindergarten and it's like what do you want to be when you grow up? Or it's like that day you go to school and you have to write, like what your future is. If I could not tell you the amount of videos that I saw and it was in the kid's little paragraph I want to grow up and be a YouTuber. And I was like my goodness I. That was not. I don't, it was you. Youtube was not out.

Kate:

I don't believe, when I was born so I guess I didn't have that option to put that at my kindergarten class. Who knows what I said? Uh, but how to become a youtuber, that's a cool thing. Um, are you gonna teach us?

Speaker 9:

sure, sure, come in and we'll teach you how to become a youtuber and we'll give you your own little uh drive and you can take it home with all of your materials, just like the kids do. And then, uh, your parents can decide if you get a youtube.

Zach:

I know growing up, I wanted to be a youtuber, so I can relate to this. I know a lot of kids out there can as well. But what do you teach them like specifically? I mean when they? What should parents and children expect when they show up to Code Ninjas, to quote-unquote learn how to be a YouTuber or any other course that you offer?

Speaker 9:

Okay, yeah, awesome. The main thing that we teach is basic languages and basic concepts, and for some of the kids that already have those concepts in place, we do have some more advanced classes that start at the ages of eight or 11, like the drones. We talked about drones yesterday. Absolutely, that's so neat. One of the programs that we have in summer camp is drones on a mission and that's based on basically how to use drones in science. So for vaccine delivery, all kinds of things, they use these. We're going to be getting them, hopefully, into some schools so that some of the schools can use the drones on a mission. That's one of the main things we do. But what we do is we teach from the beginning. We assume that they don't know, but if they do, we move along and it's kind of an individual thing. We have a class ratio small enough that we can give really individual attention. Well, and it's kind of an individual thing. We have a class ratio small enough that we can give really individual attention.

Kate:

Well, and it's called Ninjas because you guys do kind of a sports spin on it. They can get like a black belt as a Code Ninja. Can you tell us a little bit about that?

Speaker 9:

Yeah, it's pretty cool. The original concept was a man had his child at Taekwondo or something with a belt and he's a coder. So he thought, you know, I could really teach my kid to do this if I gave him a belt. So it started with that concept and that's where it was born. And we go all the way from a white belt to a black belt and they actually have to earn their stripes. So it's just like testing with a regular belt and they have a. We have senseis who review their work and teach them and they have to pass certain tests to get their their belt. And once they passed you know it's a big deal they get to ring a gong and all kinds of things and for the, the last belt, the black belt, that's a really big deal. It's kind of like an Eagle Scout. We were talking about that yesterday. It's kind of like the project for an Eagle Scout. So it's a big deal. It's almost like a thesis, yeah it's a huge deal for kids.

Zach:

How long does it take to get your black belt?

Speaker 9:

If you were going to get the black belt. I don't know. I haven't seen it happen yet, but I would assume that that's going to take you a little while. We've only been here for a year, so I think it's going to take a little longer than a year well, where are you guys located?

Kate:

because if people want to come find you and you mentioned there's a really big uh ai summer camp coming up this tuesday so I think, a big push, let's get people in come see your facility, tell us, tell them where they can go again, give them another reminder where they can find information and then where you guys are located absolutely.

Speaker 9:

If you go to codeninjascom and click on the Pensacola link, that's where we are and you'll find all of our camps, all of our programs, because we also do have a regular program where we teach children regular coding. Not just our camps, the camps, you can check us out there. And we're also at three west nine mile road. We're in the tractor supply.

Kate:

Uh, complex okay so you heard her make sure you go sign up for that camp, but I'm gonna have to do a little sports uh knowledge with you here stephanie okay so this is what's interesting to me.

Kate:

So we're talking about coding, we're talking about analytics, we're talking about logic. They had game one of the NBA finals last night. The Celtics won. But what a lot of people don't realize is you can do a lot of data analytics when it comes to sports. And when I was watching what movie was it that I was watching, was it? I don't think it was the same lot, but it was one movie where the kid was so good and so smart that the grandma would come and say, hey, can you predict this score for me so I can win this bet? Because they were doing the mathematical equations or the coding or whatever it took to come up with those percentages, and they actually use that in sports. So not only can Code Ninjas teach you these STEM programs where you can do AI or robotics, but maybe you can go work in sports, do sports statistics, because that is so huge, a hundred percent.

Speaker 9:

Anecdotally, we actually have a ninja and we don't teach them to gamble. I swear. But we have a ninja who uses his analytical skills to fill fantasy football teams. So he's actually using those skills already and people seek him out for those skills.

Kate:

That's pretty impressive. I think I may seek him out for my fantasy football team this year.

Speaker 9:

Come in, we'll introduce you.

Kate:

Look, you can use analytics for so much. What Code Ninjas is doing is just incredible, and the owners have a really good story too. Can you elaborate a little bit on?

Speaker 9:

that? Sure, absolutely. They've been married for a really long time. They've been married since right after college and they have four children. He's in the military and she is actually taking point on Code Ninjas. So she has four kids that are all under the age of 18, and some of them work there with us and they're just a lovely family. They live in Gulf Breeze and they're locals. They're from Knightsville originally.

Kate:

Well, it's a military town. Nothing better than to support our veterans and to support kids and what you guys are doing and you guys mission again. Thank you so much for your time today. We are running out of time. I'm going to hand it over veterans and to support kids and what you guys are doing and you guys mission again. Thank you so much for your time today. We are running out of time.

Zach:

I'm gonna hand it over to zach so we can give you a few more updates yeah, so over the weekend, um a lot of course, tampa bay rays taking on the baltimore orioles. That will be a three game series, or four game series, excuse me, and we'll have the results for that series over the weekend for you. Nba finals game two, sunday afternoon seven o'clock. Tip off for that one. Of course that game will be up at td garden.

Zach:

For game two nhl playoffs or the stanley final we're no longer in that well, we are in the playoffs, but stanley cup finals game one tomorrow, edmonton oilers taking on the florida panthers I'm excited the panthers are favored slightly, but that game will be a seven o'clock puck drop, so that will definitely be a game I will be tuned into tonight. Caitlin clark will be in action as well against the washington mystics 6 30 tip off. Are you excited about that one? Caitlyn Clark Mystics no. Has the hype fallen off? A little bit, sounds like it.

Kate:

I'll probably watch a little bit of it because I want to see if these other teams, as far as they're saying they're going so hard against Kaitlyn Clark as we've got the Indiana congressman looking into everything going on with Kaitlyn Clark. I mean I will watch it because I want to see how the other team decides their game plan against her and the rest of the fever.

Zach:

When it comes to MLB, and not only Rays and Orioles, but Dodgers and Yankees. That's a huge series, that's a big one. That is a that's a massive series, so I will be definitely tuned into that one. That's that's the hour, folks. This Friday morning has absolutely flown by. Go enjoy your National Donut Day. Go grab a donut from any of your local donut shops. Here, dan Patrick and the Danettes will be up after our show discussing everything we discussed in further detail. This is Fox Sports Pensacola, the morning sports take from Zach Schroeder, kate Thomas and Jim Kegel. We'll see you Monday morning at 8 o'clock.

Speaker 5:

This is the morning sports take with Kate Thomas and Zach Schroeder.

Speaker 4:

It's my favorite show.

Speaker 5:

They talk about everything Fox Sports, pensacola.

Speaker 1:
