Homeschooling For Catholic Parents
You’re wondering if homeschooling is for you. But your inner critic is telling you you’re not enough. How can I teach my kid when we can’t get through homework without tears and yelling? How would the daily routine look? What curriculum will you use? Your house is already a wreck. You don’t want to feel isolated, like you’re on an island where everyone wears long dresses and raises goats. Plus, aren’t homeschoolers weird?
I am so excited you're here! This podcast will give you peace of mind as you raise successful adults who understand their Catholic faith and how to defend it. I’ll help you find the routine that works for you, you’ll still have community, if that’s what you want, and even a clean, organized home is possible (sometimes).
I’m Maeve Jemison, and I host this pod with my handsome husband, Mat. We’re Catholics who prioritize worship and apologetics through our homeschool journey with our five kids.
I’ve made many mistakes along the way. As a young adult, I left the Catholic church because I didn't understand what was going on. I was a government school graduate and high school teacher so I thought homeschooling meant replicating government school at home. (I was wayyyy off!)
When I finally learned the depths and truths of Catholicism, I was adamant that I would teach my little cradle Catholics about the history and beauty of the religion that Jesus started. No way would my kids be as oblivious as I was. Our homeschooling became a delightful adventure, with the Lord guiding us in tailoring our children’s education. I knew I had found my calling!
If you’re ready to thrive as the domestic church through worship, apologetics and homeschooling, then this podcast is for you!
Thanks for stopping by because home is where the truth is!

36 - Catholic Faith and Family Resilience: Embracing Suffering and Spiritual Growth
Send us a text! We’d love to hear from you!
Who knew a Catholic homeschooling podcast could cover everything from Mary’s sorrows to wild dance floors with astrophysicists? You won’t want to miss this episode as you'll find encouragement in the hard times and inspiration from two of the greatest women ever to live, the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
"If I ever become a Saint--I will surely be one of "darkness." I will continually be absent from Heaven--to light the light of those in darkness on Earth." -- Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Today, we dive into the complex relationship between suffering and resilience, particularly within the framework of our Catholic homeschool family. Did you realize that protecting kids from all suffering might actually be hindering their growth? That's important to consider, especially for us bubble-wrapping homeschool mamas! But let's discuss the remarkable examples set by great saints who embraced spiritual darkness and talk about profound lessons from Mary's Seven Sorrows. Pro tip: meditating on these sorrows might just bring some divine graces your way!
Maeve recounts a hilarious and touching anecdote about their spontaneous dance floor invasion, which even included dancing with an astrophysicist and a blind man at a local bar, proving that incredible moments can happen anywhere. And to clarify, despite any rumors, we are definitely not lushes, just occasional enjoyers of a good time.

The Seven Sorrows of Mary, also known as the Seven Dolors, are events in the life of Mary that caused her great sorrow. The Seven Sorrows are:
- The Prophecy of Simeon
- The Flight into Egypt
- The Loss of Jesus for Three Days
- The Carrying of the Cross
- The Crucifixion of Jesus
- Jesus Taken Down from the Cross
According to a pious tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary grants seven graces to those who honor her by meditating on her sorrows and saying seven Hail Marys, one for each Sorrow. These graces include:
- Peace for their families
- Enlightenment about the divine Mysteries
- Consolation in their pains
- Accompaniment in their work
- Fulfillment of their requests, as long as they do not oppose the will of God or the sanctification of their souls
The devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Mary unites the suffering of the faithful with that of the Blessed Mother.
