Ally Murphy gives a short intro into what The Red Eye Podcast is all about. Exploring the unique experiences and perspectives of flight attendants, pilots and their passengers. We have taken the stories donated by cabin crew around the world, and put a fictional flair on them! Allowing you to delve into the world of flight attendants, the destinations they travel to and the (sometimes outrageous) people they meet. The podcast episodes are audio stories, around just 20 minutes long, so you can escape for a short while, be entertained, inspired and surprised by the antics of flight crew and their passengers.

If someone were ever to do a study, if it was even possible to do, it would show, I am sure, that flight attendants have more encounters and conversations with people they have never met before than most. Much more…    like, ten thousand times more than the average 9-5 worker who sits silently on the train with their airpods in, talks in passing with their co-workers, says thank you politely to the shop-worker, and chats on the phone and meets the same ten to twenty friends and family on semi-regular occasions.

We crew  take it for granted that each flight gives us sometimes upwards of ten new ‘crew friends,’ people that become our counsellors on a jumpseat at thirty-five thousand feet in the middle of the night, that you share your most inner thoughts and dreams with, talk through and dissect whatever might be worrying you, and who’s opinion you value, because in so many ways they are just like you. Then, there are those passengers that come to the back of the plane for a coffee and leave an hour later having blown your mind with their life story, or those passengers who get up to crazy antics in the air because apparently they checked their common sense in with their luggage, and then there’s the random strangers that you and your over-sharing colleagues meet on your night out that are drawn to the fun and openness of your group…

We love to talk to people, and we love to listen. We thrive from this constant stream of scintillating stories and life affirming interactions. And sometimes those interactions can open our minds to a new adventure or even change our whole direction, divert much more than our flight… they divert our entire life.

I’m Ally Murphy and this is The Red Eye.
