The key word in this letter is “joy”. I need it and I know that you need it! Paul is writing, in chains, yet no difficulties can rob him of his joy. Joy is not mere happiness, which is situational, it is rooted in spiritual realities. Our identity, and our citizenship.
Christ, though by very nature God, chose to become human, suffered death on a cross, and was exalted by God “to the highest place.”
He knows your suffering and promises to lift you up!
