Today's episode we're discussing the sec meetings . We are discussing the post spring fpi rankings out from espn praising Always a good topic of conversation . We're going to talk a little , maybe women's basketball . Talk a little Carolina coach Baseball then .

So , honestly , I'm glad we skipped last week because one positive let's start with some positives here we ended the Friday show from two weeks ago with with Duke Duke scoop , I heard . By the way , this is incredible , I might just come on now Um and that V . That video got over 2,200 views , which is awesome on YouTube , so that was great . We appreciate all you guys for that . Uh , as we , as we said , we're trying to grow this thing , um , and it's been a lot of fun , obviously . So then did some stuff with the branding . Um , as you can tell , the top looks pretty clean huh , that does look very clean at the top .

Speaker 2also also the bottom , but you just pointed out the top , so I think this is what we're going to stick with , because I really like this . And one thing I think that would help us and me emotionally is maybe , after we get done recording , not spending two to three hours every three to six weeks , rebranding the whole fucking thing for no reason . So , um , but no , I was , uh , I told , I told evan and and um , he was like , let me just take the week off , there's not really much going on . And now there's like a bunch of stuff going on and we get college baseball going on , which has been a lot of fun . I've fucking this . This time of year . Man is like .
Speaker 1I disagree with people who say it's as good as college basketball season , but I I like for like march madness , I love this man , I love this time of year yeah , I'd say I I like college baseball better than college basketball at this point , and I think I mean some of that is probably directed at the fact that Florida State is terrible at basketball now . So I just don't really watch Good showing by Alabama , though , in the regional Tallahassee regional .
Speaker 2So I want to be very clear when I say this . I don't give a shit about outland baseball . I I got out ahead of it early again this year . I don't care , I don't care and and I know there's several auburn fans that want to like dog about that , like oh , or like a few band fans you're like , you're only a fog , like a football , only gump . It's like no , I played , I played . What did you ? It's dude , it's . It's unreal how serious they take that shit .

Yeah , this third account has really blossomed into a new friendship with me and FNC . I don't give a shit about baseball because like it feels weird what's up , john , sweet sports ? It feels weird to me Cause it's like it almost feels a little bit like the whole wearing somebody else's Jersey thing Cause I wasn't good at the plate Alabama . There's a reason they stopped recruiting me . That's fine , but it always feels weird being like super invested into a program with that . I didn't stop recruiting me like for , like you know , I just whatever , like for the right reasons . I want to be very clear . When I said they recruited me for since I was a sophomore in high school through my senior year , and they stopped with a good reason , but what was that reason , chris ? I wasn't good enough to play there .

Speaker 1Um , the new espn fpi ratings for 2024 have been updated . Came out today . Uh , chris , you're never gonna believe who's number one in this . I mean people . People are going to be outraged .
Speaker 2It is Georgia .
Speaker 1Top five looks to be Georgia , oregon , texas , ohio State , alabama . I would say those five programs probably have been the best recruiting programs over the last five years , so that kind of makes sense .
Speaker 2We should deep dive on that again . I haven't done the deep dive in a minute . I um , yeah , like , and , and georgia is again head and shoulders above the rest of the country and we're far enough removed that I'm okay with saying this . Now . We're , like , I think we're seven months removed from the actual game itself , or yeah , or six months , maybe , actually I think for six months . Um , you know , if it wasn't for some injuries and a game in atlanta , we are most likely talking about going into this season with georgia having the shot at having a four p , and I mean for real last year from start to finish , but they had a bad three and a half hours on Saturday and early December .
Speaker 2So , um , I , I just think , I think that , uh , oh , that's a good idea , john . Sweet sports is my idea . Atvs off the wall do a roulette style .
Speaker 1You talk about whatever it stops and I , we're going to do that for like a , like a chat roulette at some point .
Speaker 2Um , well , you were chat roulette where it's like yeah , like , yeah , I mean like minus dick stuff , we're gonna have people coming in here , um , so I I think that having georgia one is a really , really expected and normal thing . Now here's the thing . Ath and steve is going to disagree with me when I say this Ohio State's not far behind Georgia and I think that when you look at them from a talent standpoint , like from a roster , top to bottom , ohio State and Georgia are very similar . I would argue , as of today , right now , right as of today , right now , then , as a as a today , right now , I think that is one of my favorite comments ever been made on this fucking show from Willie gray .
Speaker 2Um , I think that , as of today , if you gave me the starting 22 , I would say that Ohio state is better . I really would like , and it's more , probably more because there's more unknowns for Georgia , right , like , especially in that front seven , especially in the secondary a little bit . But we talked to guys like close to that program John being one of them , graham coffee being another one A lot of people think that secondary might be the best that they've had under Kirby smart , which is really scary . I'm really saying something , but you know , I something , but you know , I think that there's more . There's more household names in columbus at ohio state now , from a full roster standpoint , probably give the the edge to georgia , because the way they recruit and the way they develop talent and the full package , I would , I would say from a coaching standpoint , I would , I would stay with kirby smart in georgia , but I don't think it's that far off yeah , I think you look at the

Speaker 1I think where ohio state may have the lead here is that the skill positions on offense . I mean to have that two-headed monster at running back . I know that georgia gets some players back from injury , which will be nice , um , but . And then etn is a really good back . But I think the mixture of quinch on duncans and , uh , trivia on henderson is a . I mean , you're not going to beat that in the country . And then you look at receiver . They've obviously brought in a ton of really good receivers , five stars across the board . But then jeremiah smith is apparently this like all world dude , I don't know that you have that on georgia's roster .
Speaker 2At least you know , um wait here and real quick , do you ? Do you need it at georg ? Because this is we're talking about year and somebody in the chat help me out here , because I think it's all Georgia fans again but we're talking about I believe this is year 20-something where they haven't had a 1,000-yard receiver .
Speaker 1Who ? Georgia ? Yeah , yeah , yeah , I mean they got the kid from Miamiami , colby , uh , colby young . I think that kid could have a pretty good year , but he was never really like a standout at miami , so I think he's gonna have to elevate his game to be a true number one . I mean , dominic , love it raw right yeah but those are solid guys .
Speaker 1I mean I , um , I I don't think you need it for georgia , to be honest . I mean because I think that you've got enough really good weapons in the room that you can spread the ball pretty evenly . But I would say like top-level names that everybody knows . I think Ohio State's got them beat , but I would definitely trust Georgia in any game over Ohio State , just given how Ohio State has performed in big games over the last couple years .
Speaker 2Agreed , especially against the SEC . I would also love we also need to bring up the fact that it's like Georgia and Ohio State and we need to probably move on , because we're going to have this debate a lot . I feel like we've had this debate a bunch , even over the last three years , but we're going to have this debate a bunch going into the season and probably going into the postseason as well . But Evan Grimes brings it up the the one thing that that ohio state does not have right now and that's a quarterback dylan bell has . I mean , dylan bell did show out against nc , that's kind of what it's been man like outside of brock bowers .
Speaker 2I mean like I don't care how this sounds , I mean you lost some kroger wine section meme , exciting whites on that offense , and and that you you brought one over from Stanford and that maybe that's like the whole thing now with Bobo's offense , but like that that seemed to be what was for a while there . It's like all right , well , you had so and so and he's the one that kind of led the way , but um , like you know , and then next game it's somebody different . And then AD Mitchell , once you got to the actual dog , say hello when you get to the actual postseason , ad Mitchell Dogs .
Speaker 1I do find it interesting that Oregon and Texas are above Ohio State in these ratings though , because as as talented as Ohio State is , I mean Oregon and Texas are ranked over them , I guess for a reason . Maybe it's returning talent . I don't think Texas I mean Texas is loaded on offense , but Ohio State's defense , I think , is going to be really , really good this year . So I think with those top four especially Georgia , oregon , texas , ohio State I think going into the season , I feel most comfortable saying they're the top four teams , maybe not the exact order . Alabama obviously has a big unknown right now and that's a new coach .
Speaker 2What's wild is , if you like , I was going to get to this point . Our buddy , chris Gordy from Lockdown SEC brought it up before I even could , and Anthony Mathis . We are actually getting to the odds right now , so perfect timing .
Analyzing ESPN FPI and Playoff Prospects
Speaker 2Espn FBI is great for a lot of reasons . One , it gives us numbers to constantly look at , scrutinize , say right , wrong , whatever , here's the percentage odds of this team to win . You know , this weekend , this game , this conference , this , you know , get to the playoff , like , whatever . All the above . Now the one thing I always go back to at the espn fbi , because a lot of times it's wrong . You , you brought this up a couple times , dude . Remember when mississippi state was like eight yeah , um and I believe everybody .
Speaker 2Brad Crawford made a point about this as well . But the one that I always go back to is in 2019 with in the season where a lot of people consider the greatest team of all time , lsu 2019 . Lsu plays Bama and Tuscaloosa and beats them by 5 , 46 , 41 . Phenomenal game . Everyone remembers it . Blah , blah . Alabama was ranked ahead of LSU for two weeks after that game , despite losing to them in ESPN FBI .
Speaker 2There are flaws in in whatever like analytics are involved in this . But when you look at alabama , you just brought up , like you go through here , here's like the top 15 teams with championship odds and it's georgia , then oregon , then texas , then ohio state , and then it says bama at five . Right , but when you look at the same list of of percentage odds and projected wins , the projected wins for bama is 9.3 . That's that's lower than the sixth and seventh best team on this list . So let it go foul . Let it go foul . Oh my god , it went fair . No , it's foul and he's out . Lsu's on right now . So technically working , um , but yeah , so I think that it's um .
Speaker 2I think it's odd because it's like bama always seems to get like a little bit of the benefit of the doubt . Now again , what I do love about this is it gives you rankings , it gives you percentage odds to go undefeated . It gives you , uh , championship odds , like odds to make the playoff . All that . Is there anything outside of ? Like I said , said we had Georgia , oregon , texas , ohio State , bama , penn State , notre Dame , oklahoma , then Tennessee . And what's odd about Tennessee ? Tennessee has the ninth best odds to win the College Football National Championship , but they also have , I think , think , the fifth or sixth best odds even win the sec . What are your thoughts on that ?
Speaker 1um , I mean , if you think about these fpi ratings , I don't that you gotta think about what the rating actually consists of , and some of it is strength of schedule , some of it is home field advantage , like , and so that's why it's going to be a little bit weird that I mean , that's probably why ohio state is a little bit behind a team like oregon . Maybe they have a higher I haven't , I don't know their schedule off the top of my head but , um , maybe they have a harder strength of schedule or , you know , maybe they have harder , uh , away games and we're gonna have home games like . So some of these ratings do try to bring in home field advantage and things like that with the schedule . I think that's why you see some discrepancies in the way we feel about some of these teams and what FPI is saying . That's why Bama might have a lower win record prediction than Penn State and Notre Dame , even though they're ahead of them .
Speaker 2Yeah , and again , I will say this too , because Oklahoma's in there , and this is just percentage chances to win the national championship . I do think it's interesting . It's like percentage odds to win the conference it has Because , remember , penn State doesn't have to play Michigan and and Ohio state . This year I think they only get one of them . Um awesome . In the conference y'all are 26.2% . It's the most in the ACC . It's ahead of Clemson . They've got Clemson in terms of FPI Um 15th . That's insane , do ?

Speaker 2No , You're such a fucking hater with them . Also , it has a percentage of odds to win out . Do you want to guess what team has the best percentage of odds to win out in the entire country ? Don't look , Dick .

Speaker 2Um , I'm looking at the little , so the best percentage to just go undefeated yeah I mean , is it not georgia , notre dame , notre dame it's notre dame and then oregon , and then , uh , georgia and then georgia . I I was like looking for liberty but I don't see where they are . Georgia and then Georgia . I was looking for Liberty , but I don't see where they are .
Speaker 1Yeah , I just I don't know what it is about Notre Dame , but I just feel like , well , first of all , they can't get a top four seed correct Right , that sucks for them . Join a conference . I don't know man Replacing your two top left tackle and right tackle , both being top picks I mean , riley Leonard , to me is a big question mark because he wasn't able to practice in spring . He's in a brand new team , brand new system . I just don't know what I'm going to get . And for them , I know they have to play Florida State . I just don't know what I'm going to get , and for them I know they have to play Florida State at home , just because I know Florida State's schedule . But I think they have to play USC on the road , which I guess at this point maybe isn't that tough of a game . But FPI has them 18th . They've got to go 2A and M right . That's their 14th in the FPI .

Speaker 1um , so yeah . So I just don't see how they have the top . But I guess I don't know . I guess maybe I'm like the only one that doesn't think highly of notre dame , or like as highly as everybody else unc just added up three .

Speaker 1um and we'll . Georgia at 79.1 percent . Tyler top 12 .
Speaker 2I'm in yeah , 11 , um , and this is . This is like kind of going to go into our next topic here and and I was talking , I was talking about this today because this is something I've said a lot and I and maybe I'll be wrong about it right , um , I don't think I am , though , and that's , I know it's a consistent theme with me . But I mean , like , here's the thing , realistic , the realistic number of of bids each conference can get into the possible playoff in the new 12 team format , because , because here's the thing , you I think you work backwards for it to make the most sense but but there's been this idea for LSU , for SEC fans , since the beginning of this oh , we're going to get four to six teams in every year , and I don't think four is super far-fetched if you're in the SEC , but anything higher than that is a pipe dream year in and year out . And I think there's a couple of reasons why people think that's because , yeah , it's the best , it's the , you know , best team , our best conference , the best teams , all kind of stuff . But here's the thing there was a number that was posted today from the strength of schedule from fpi , the top eight strength of schedules in the country tyler in the country are in the sec and like the top eight overall , and it's like not just Vandy and Auburn , it's like Bama and Tennessee and LA , like like Georgia , I think , is up there . It's like I mean , these are legit difficult situations to go through scheduling wise , and so this idea that you're going to get four to six teams in , like let's work backwards from this and you tell me like where I'm wrong here .
Speaker 2What you think like the feedback would be , if you have 12 teams working backwards , you , you get the automatic bid from the , the g5 school , so that's 11 , right .
Speaker 2You get four automatic qualifiers from the power , four teams , so you have seven left . Now you're probably going to get a 10-win Notre Dame team in , no matter what , you have six spots . You have six spots , four conferences , and I'm not even including the rest of the country Six spots with four conferences . You're not going to take the runner-up from every single conference because probably in the ACC or in the Big 12 , maybe you're talking about a potential three-loss team . But if you're , because probably in the ACC or in the Big 12 , maybe you're you're talking about a potential three loss team . But if you're talking about in the ACC this year where you brought this up like I know that Clemson and Florida State play , but most of the top five teams in that conference going into the season aren't going to play each other . So if you've got a bunch of 11 and one , if you have like three to four 11-1 ACC teams and then a bunch of 10-2 and 9-3 SEC teams , you're telling me they're going to fall .
Speaker 1Yeah , they just did that this year . Oh yeah , good point .
Speaker 1All right , well , I'm going to have to be a bitch about it . I mean , they literally just did that to a team that didn't lose any games . All right , well , I didn't walk myself into that one . No , but I think , when it comes to because the SEC is doing the same thing that the ACC just did last year , which is it's just the two top teams play , now , right , it's not divisions for the SEC championship , yeah , so I mean , I think it's very plausible to say that you know the runner-up in the SEC , the runner-up in the Big Ten , since there's no divisions . Like , those teams are getting in , yeah , they're getting in . So I think it's going to be an automatic two for the SEC . So then I don't know , you figure , yeah , I mean think , I think there is going to be a 10 and 2 team that gets in over an 11-1 acc team , no doubt that's that part's fine .
Speaker 2I should have just stuck with the 9-3 part because , like , okay , because think about this , like bama this year I think bama is going to go 9-3 . I don't , I don't and we can get through this . There's a question I have from an audience member later we can talk about , but I I think they go nine and three . If they go nine and three and play , you know , wisconsin , a south florida team maybe might get the g5 bid . Um , georgia , tennessee , mizzou , lsu , oklahoma , maybe Auburn's up there , if they play and they lose to Georgia , mizzou and Wisconsin but they beat all those other teams , I would have a fucking fit . I know they would be better than an 11-1 Louisville , but do they deserve to be in over an 11-1 Louisville ?
Speaker 1There's some precedence for this . I mean maybe not two-game swing , but yeah , I mean , I guess if you're 11-1 at that point , that means that Louisville only lost the acc championship game to presumably like a florida sierra clemson . That's a one loss or undefeated team . So , um , no , I think in that case louisville would get in . I mean , I don't know , I don't know what louisville schedule is like . I guess there's a lot that goes into it . But I know that I know that sankey is fighting for , like the sec , to to have the benefit of the doubt .

Speaker 2We don't give him enough shit for basically ruining college football you know , I saw people , I've seen people that hate on him constantly . I I think he's done a tremendous job in in some ways .
Speaker 1Yeah , the sec , which is what you should do as a commissioner .
Speaker 2So there is that , but that texas oklahoma thing basically started all of this yeah , you know , I and I also think that , like because I was , I was just been on the train . Be there , all we got a tie game going to the bottom of the ninth sucks . Um , I was on the train of I hate the big 10 for so long . But then you and you look what Kevin Warren did in the COVID year and the commissioner of the PAC 12 and the ACC . And then you , you really see what the commissioner of the PAC 12 did , like they lost the conference , like he lost , he lost the conference . And then and then now you talk about the big 10 , like I think in sankey's mind , I think he's like , well , this is already being ruined , so who fucking cares , we're just gonna go run it further into the ground . Maybe that's what I think he's like justifying the spy , and I could be totally wrong about that . He maybe he thinks he's doing a phenomenal job , but you're not wrong , man .
Speaker 1Like this whole thing , it is ruining college football yeah , I mean , look , and let's just take that with a grain of salt , obviously , because I'm very excited to watch matchups like oregon and michigan and usc and ohio State and Bama and Texas like consistently . Like that is awesome , don't get me wrong . But I mean there's a lot of schools and I'm not worried about Florida State being one of them , which is part of why I'm at least a little bit excited about this , all this moving . Think about teams like Oregon State and Washington State that just got left behind in the Pac-12 . There's only two teams . They're basically forced to be relegated down to like a G5 type program because they missed the boat on getting in .
Speaker 1One of these . Power two , essentially , is what it's turning into . And then when Florida State and Clemson and potentially UNC leave the ACC because they're looking out for their own best interests , then all these teams in the ACC are going to be completely screwed too . And it's just like If you're on a team that's on the cusp of Virginia Tech who you hate , think about what they're thinking right now .
College Football Realignment and Playoff Discussion
Speaker 1If the Big Ten or the SEC doesn't want us , what are we going to do ?

Speaker 2It's been awful . What they should have done has been like okay , we're going to go to four total conferences . This is kind of what we thought was going to happen way back in the day . Here's four 16-team conferences . Go to four , four total conferences . Like this is kind of what we thought was going to happen way back in the day . Here's four 16 team conferences yeah okay , that's .
Speaker 2I mean consolidate the power five to four , I'm fine with that , I'm totally fine with that . And then , and then having like big 12 , I see , keep the pack 10 and then figure out the rest of the ACC with a Big 12 , sec and Big 10 . And I'll tell you who else got ahead of their curve .
Speaker 1Would have to join something at that point as well . Right With who ? Notre Dame .
Speaker 2Right , I'll tell you who else kind of fucked this whole thing up . I tell you who else kind of fucked this whole thing up . But but like I think the idea of um , of having the big 12 be the third conference , that like ran out and was like we gotta get some teams , we gotta get some teams . And then they were like all right , we're going to lose these guys . I want to make sure that we're still a conference though , because you can see what's happening with the Pac-12 . We don't want that to happen . That would be the worst-case scenario . So let's go out and get BYU , cincinnati , houston and UCF . And then we're like , oh fuck , because what you could have theoretically done then was been like , all right , let's split up into four conferences based off of geographic location , and then had like I don't know like divvy up the ACC and figure it out from there , which makes the most sense . But now they're not doing that .
Speaker 1No , no , no , they're not . Yeah , I think , no , no , they're not . Um , yeah , I , I think . Um . Like , if you look at the top 10 teams in the fpi , they're all big 10 or sec , except for notre dame right , um kind of surprised , I mean .
