What’s up!  I mean WHATS UP?

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week!  This is message #80 and I am Aaron Havens.

How many times have you gotten in trouble because someone read a text or an email wrong? Like what you were trying to say, just didn't kind come out the right way. The content was probably spot on, the reader just interpreted it in an entirely different way.

I've learned as a business owner that if there is gonna be any kind of difficult conversation, that needs to happen in person if possible, over the phone or FaceTime or zoom if not. Sending pointed texts or emails often times backfire in my face.

Intonation is everything. As a communicator, it is our responsibility to make sure the person we are speaking to is receiving what we are saying and how we are saying it.

Let's do a little example.

What’s up?  (Question)

What’s up!  (Excitement)

What’s up? (Mad)

What’s up? (FUNNY)

My friends, undoubtedly you are incredibly smart human beings. Is what you are saying… how you are making the world around you better… being heard and received in the best way possible? Is your intonation good? Is HOW you are saying WHAT you were saying working?  If the people around you, your company, your employees, your bosses, your colleagues, your friends, your family, your kids, or random people on the Internet are confused or miss hearing what you were saying, maybe it's in your intonation. How you are saying what you are saying is important!

Thanks for calling in today.  Tune in tomorrow for the weekend edition of Growth Instigator Hotline.  At the sound of the beep:

Give me example of a time you were misunderstood, some of misinterpreted what you were saying. What did you do to fix it? What can you do today to make sure what you were saying is received by the people that are listening…

Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic.  At the sound of the beep:  Are you a bit stuck, or are you spending time daily to find new trends, new ways… improve?
