Brace for military lingo by a civilian…

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week!  This is message #96 and I am Aaron Havens.

How many of you know what a IFF Transponder is?

Identification “Friend or Foe” (IFF) Transponders are transmitter/responders mounted in aircraft, naval vessels, and some ground vehicles to identify the craft as “friendly” by responding to the “interrogation” signals emitted by IFF system interrogators.

One can see how this is of utmost importance.  If I’m a pilot, I want my craft to transmitting “friendly” to the battleship below me!  “Foe” could be fatal!

"Foe" generally refers to someone who is considered an opponent or adversary in a specific situation or context.  Missiles launched in my direction is not the optimal position to find oneself in.

Today, as you emit “interrogation” signals, what signals are relayed back to you?  And for the sake of keeping this simple leadership lesson at under 3 minutes let me be a bit more direct.  Your optimal self is the battle ship emitting “interrogation” signals throughout your day.  What are the “friendly” and what are the “foe” signals being returned?  Let’s take a quick quiz. Just answer these quick hyperbole questions with “friend” or “foe” in relations to you and the optimal life you are planning to live today:

Staying in bed all day and blowing off life… “friend” or “foe”

Drinking 100 cups of coffee before noon…

Ignoring the red light…

Lashing out at anyone and everyone you encounter…

Ok.  I think we get the point.

What are the things you notice today that get you to your optimal self?  This are the “friendly” transmissions.  Are you willing to do whatever it takes to take down the “foe” transmissions, or will you let them land on your aircraft and influence your culture and safety?

Thanks for calling in today.  Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic.  At the sound of the beep: Have you noticed a few “foe” transponders in your life?  What are you willing to do to take them down?
