What’s more fulfilling than a stacked up bank account?
What’s more satisfying than a yacht, or beach house, or a Bentley?

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week!  This is message #99 and I am Aaron Havens.

I was sitting with a very successful business friend a bit back.
Generational wealth has built up for this family.

He has been to some super amazing places in this world and he really wants for nothing.  He said something that caught my attention.  He said “Aaron, people say money can’t buy happiness.  I disagree.  The fun things I’ve done in life are a lot of fun.  I’m super happy and enjoying life while on the yacht or in Paris or at the lake house.  None of those things are long-term fulfilling though.  Money cannot buy being fulfilled or satisfied in life.”

So one can be having fun in life with a ton of cash, yet not be fulfilled.
Could the reverse be true?  Your life mission is so fulfilling that you don’t even mind living with very little and having no cash?

Albert Einstein: "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

What drives you today?
Is it to be the most successful?
To retire by 40 with millions?
A fancy watch?
Being known… being famous… making that team… achieving that award… leaving a legacy?

Whatever we are doing today we should evaluate if that is of value.  That high paying position is useless if it adds no value to you and the world.  Maybe you’ve climbed the ladder beyond what you’re made for.  And also, since this is the only day like this one we will ever live in our lifetime… are we adding value to ourselves and the people around us?  That should be our aim!  Bonus if that thing you’re doing is adding value and stacking up Benjamins!  Rock that out!

I guess the leadership lesson for today is to consider if what you are doing is adding value.  If not, do that meet your criteria for what “success” is? Do you want to be breathing your last breaths on earth saying you were just successful or would saying you added value mean so much more?!

Thanks for calling in today.  Tune in tomorrow for GIH #100 and for a fresh new topic! After the beep I’d love to hear from you!  Is there anything in your life today that you can say is adding little or no value?  Are you willing to consider a pivot from that?
