Anthony Shim's second feature film, Riceboy Sleeps, follows a Korean mother, So-young, and her son, Dong-hyun, as they immigrate to Canada for a better life. The film explores personality identity and heritage that speaks to the immigrant experience so well. Emotionally resonant, Riceboy Sleeps has received rave reviews and awards on an international scale; it had its domestic premiere at TIFF, where it took home the Platform Prize, while it had its international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival and won the Flash Forward Audience Award, as well.

I'm joined by Anthony Shim to discuss the impact Riceboy Sleeps has made, his personal connection to the film, and the auteurs that helped shape and inspire his love for cinema.

Anthony Shim is a Korean-Canadian filmmaker who started his career as an actor in Vancouver, Canada and directed theatre for many years before making his feature films "Daughter" (2020) and "Riceboy Sleeps" (2023). He is currently writing his next feature film in South Korea; an adaptation of a novel called "Offerings."
