Christopher

Kang Min Shin started learning classical guitar at a young age and participated in a national youth guitar competition in Korea. Despite low expectations, he tied for first place with a competitor who aspired to be a professional classical guitarist. This remarkable result motivated Kang Min to continue practicing and pursuing a career in music. Kang Min Shin talks about how he unexpectedly received attention from classical guitar teachers in Korea who wanted him to join a musical conservatory. However, he had to decide between pursuing music or academics, as the education system in Korea required him to specialize at a young age. He eventually made it to Juilliard Pre-College thanks to the support of his parents and the recommendation of his teacher, Tali Roth. Kang Min Shin discusses his experiences studying guitar and music theory at Juilliard Pre-College.
