#002 - An introduction to Immanuel Immanuel Kant and Carl Jung: the danger of assumptions & the limits of human reason
Mar 19, 2024 Season 1 Episode 2
Harry Venice

Harry Venice gives an introduction to the commonalities of Immanuel Kant and Carl Jung.  Understanding Kant is critical to understanding Carl Jung's depth psychology. Kant's philosophy and exploration of empiricism form a critical foundation to how Jung structures his psychology and accounts for the limits of empiricism, science, and understanding the psyche.

This episode includes a discussion of the Kant's influence on Jung, the limits of human reason, and even a mention of the development of science or 'truth', with a reference to developmental psychologist Jean Piaget. There is also a discussion of Archimedes and the Archimedean Point which is a concept Jung refers to several times in his Collected Works. The Archimedean Point is important when studying the psyche because when studying the psyches, it is a case of the psyche studying itself. There is no outside objective point when a human uses the psyche to study the psyche. It is not an objective point studying a subject. It is the subject (the psyche) studying the subject (the psyche).
