Bio of Karma Sheen's Album

Join them and allow yourself to embark on a musical odyssey through the entrancing tapestry of Karma Sheen’s self titled album. It weaves together the cultural threads of 21st-century London, drawing its inspiration from the vibrant fusion of the South Asian diaspora and the resounding echoes of the city's soundscape. Born from the roots of Pakistan and nurtured amidst the bustling rhythms of London, this album emerges as a poetic testament to the harmonious collision of tradition and contemporary sound.

Within each of the movements of Karma Sheen, you'll find a rich and historical collection of ragas, each a radiant gem in the mosaic of sound. The raga, Jog, like a meandering river, offers a contemplative journey through its delicate notes, while Malkauns, with its midnight hues, envelops the listener in a mysterious embrace. Bageshree, akin to a blossoming garden, paints a vivid landscape of emotions, and Mian Ki Malhar, like raindrops on a parched earth, evokes a sense of rejuvenation. These ragas were taught to us by the custodians of the Shaam Chaurasi Gharana, Ustaad Latafat Ali Khan and Ustaad Shafqat Ali Khan.

They carry within them a lineage that spans over six centuries, a treasure trove of heritage.

As the melodic vines of Karma Sheen unfurl, they pay homage to the spirit of 60s and 70s London — an era of fervent fashion, boundless freedom of expression, and an unapologetic attitude. Their album invites you to be inspired, to look within your own heritage and translate it into the language of your present. It celebrates authenticity, urging you to embrace your roots and infuse them into your own minds’ garden.

The album is more than a mere collection of songs; it is an immersive experience, an intricate labyrinth of sounds that beckon you to lose yourself within its layers. The purpose of this sonic journey is to cast a mesmerizing spell upon your senses, to envelop you in a realm where time slows and the ethereal melodies transport you to a moment suspended in eternity. With each listen, you'll find yourself submerged in a symphony that defies the boundaries of the mundane, inviting you to explore the depths of sound and emotion.

The band said "for us, this album isn't just music; it's a vessel for exploration, a mirror reflecting the intricate dance between our past and present and an invitation to immerse yourself in the beauty of harmonious diversity".
