Araminta's husband has waited long for the opportunity to buy an automobile so he can avoid the monotonous commute to and from work each day. Impatient, and confident in his skill to learn, he ambitiously chooses to take his new machine for a joy ride upon its new arrival. His confidence however, is quickly humbled as his attempts to steer the uncontrollable beast lead him through a series of adventurous thrills through the countryside causing damage to his property as well as to others.

EPISODE 2: Ray and his family intended to move west to Arizona but due to car trouble find themselves, for the moment, In Cabeza New Mexico where Mr. Walker, the Hotel Proprietor, has made it his mission to encourage Ray and his family to stay permanently. We continue the story as Ray and his wife struggle to get the bakery up and running. Ray, through trial and error, tries to get the bread to bake just right. Once perfected everyone is soon captured by the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread. Slowly, despite an issue with a temporary invasion of mice, Ray and his wife find themselves adapting to the new way of life and the independence it has to offer. Despite Ray's love for baking he is concerned he is no longer able to provide for the many things his family once enjoyed back in Detroit. Any slight need places them in a state of financial anxiety so he proposes to sell the bakery and move his family back to Detroit. Many offers are made but none that are suitable enough. As time progresses they broaden their menu and begin to scrimp even more in order to help build a getaway fund. Prepared to leave the next morning, they settle in for what they think is their last night in Cabeza New Mexico. Hit by a storm, the bakery is flooded and they are forced to stay the night in the Hotel. The next day as the people from town rally to assess and fix the damage Ray's wife concludes she can't leave. She has grown to appreciate what they have in Cabeza more than what they need. Thanks to Ray's persistent presumption of success and the many people who quickly and easily showed them love and support through all their trials she has grown to appreciate it here.

Turkeys have gone missing from several farms and the Bradshaw family is desperate for a good season this year to help pay off their farm. Sam Bailey, a shiftless member of the community is the first victim and joins a vigilance committee to help solve the mystery of the missing turkeys. Sam Bailey points suspicion on the neighborhood hunchback claiming he has found a pile of feathers behind his shanty. Mr Bradsaw is not quick to find blame with the crippled man who has otherwise lived peacefully on his own. Young Henry Bradshaw discovers a hidden old cistern at the rear of their chicken house and quickly formulates a plan to trap the thief should he try to make an escape through the back end of their property stealing their turkeys that evening. The next morning Henry is surprised, as is everyone else, by who is caught in the cistern trying to make off with the Turkeys.

They are not supposed to be even well acquainted, as the Everett’s and the Williams’s have never been very friendly, although no open feud existed between them. Although neither Adelia, nor Everett, are aware of the story's origin it stirs emotions for one another they were unaware they would ever develop.
