Join us to slow down, [00:00:21] reconnect, and explore the challenges of under [00:00:24] resourced entrepreneurs, uncovering the unique journey [00:00:27] of building businesses that make a [00:00:30] difference.
Now, your host. [00:00:33]
Kimberly Daniel: Hello, hello, and welcome [00:00:36] to the Do Get X podcast. This is where purpose meets [00:00:39] business, and the journey is just important as [00:00:42] the destination. We are so excited that you have [00:00:45] joined us on our very first [00:00:48] And today we just want to share a little bit about who we [00:00:51] are, what we are up to, why we want you here to [00:00:54] journey with us and get you hyped for what's to [00:00:57] come in our podcast.
I am [00:01:00] Kimberly Danielle, a community builder, a [00:01:03] coach, a communications strategist who [00:01:06] comes from generations of faith [00:01:09] driven entrepreneurs who believe that [00:01:12] our purpose, Should drive us to [00:01:15] contribute to the common good all of us I have [00:01:18] a combined 15 years of experience and [00:01:21] communications and brand strategy senior leadership [00:01:24] and consulting with purpose driven [00:01:27] organizations to develop strategies that [00:01:30] deepen their engagement that deepen their impact and [00:01:33] increase the revenue and [00:01:36] I have the gift.
I have the extreme [00:01:39] gifts of serving as a co [00:01:42] founder and project director for [00:01:45] Dugidex. And for over seven years, I have supported, [00:01:48] provided resources, coached, [00:01:51] and built a community for social [00:01:54] entrepreneurs. Who are ready to take their early stage [00:01:57] businesses to the next level. I [00:02:00] have seen entrepreneurs discover that this path is [00:02:03] just not for them.
It is not for everybody. It is not for [00:02:06] the faint of heart. I have witnessed entrepreneurs take [00:02:09] just an idea and turned it [00:02:12] into something major backed by multi [00:02:15] millions and impacting hundreds of [00:02:18] people. I have seen businesses fail, [00:02:21] struggle, visions dismissed, not because it wasn't a viable [00:02:24] idea, though.
That does [00:02:27] happen for a lot of folks, but this is [00:02:30] particularly because for, [00:02:33] for many entrepreneurs, specifically those who are women [00:02:36] and black and brown folks, the mentorship, the capital, [00:02:39] the knowledge, the support, the attention to [00:02:42] our wellbeing just isn't there. And so [00:02:45] that is part of why we are here. [00:02:48] This podcast.
It is not just a podcast. [00:02:51] It is your sanctuary. It is a space [00:02:54] designed specifically for black and brown folks, [00:02:57] especially black women who are navigating the [00:03:00] messy. And we know it is [00:03:03] also challenging, but it is a [00:03:06] very rewarding journey and [00:03:09] path. I am joined by my fellow co [00:03:12] founder, my co conspirator, my friend, [00:03:15] Stephen, and together we are your hosts and [00:03:18] advocates for turning ventures ventures into [00:03:21] businesses for good.
So hello, [00:03:24] Stephen. Why don't you share a bit about [00:03:27] who you are to our good people listening in. [00:03:30]
Stephen Lewis: Yes, so I am Stephen Lewis. I'm a [00:03:33] catalyst for positive change in communities [00:03:36] and businesses, and for over two decades I have inspired [00:03:39] leaders and entrepreneurs to live and [00:03:42] work on purpose with intention, faith, [00:03:45] and a commitment to their well being.
[00:03:48] Some of my background is that I have a, [00:03:51] Business background in business and finance. I [00:03:54] also, um, have experience in [00:03:57] developing and leading organizations, particularly entrepreneurially, [00:04:00] uh, building resource and support entrepreneurs to [00:04:03] bring their ideas to life. And [00:04:06] what I have seen through my work and [00:04:09] particularly why behind this podcast is that [00:04:12] I want more, uh, [00:04:15] African Americans, particularly women of color to have [00:04:18] access to the knowledge, the experience, and the [00:04:21] advice.
That allows their businesses to grow. [00:04:24] Also want entrepreneurs to recognize that they are [00:04:27] their greatest gift and asset. But they [00:04:30] also can be the barriers to success. And so how do we work through [00:04:33] that? And also I would say that everyone needs an [00:04:36] opportunity for support [00:04:39] community that will cheer them on along their [00:04:42] way in their entrepreneurial journey.
What I want to [00:04:45] say also is that entrepreneurship can [00:04:48] close the racial wealth gap, [00:04:51] but let's do this by building businesses that [00:04:54] matter now and into the future. And for future [00:04:57] generations and to build businesses on [00:05:00] purpose that reflect our values as [00:05:03] well as our care for [00:05:06] diverse consumers that you work with their communities [00:05:09] and also the larger environment.
[00:05:12] So what we always say at do good, let's do good [00:05:15] because we're all called to create in [00:05:18] service to the betterment of all. [00:05:21] We understand that the challenges that you face. [00:05:24] The doubts that whisper in your ear, [00:05:27] and we are here to help you [00:05:30] transform that doubt into unshakable [00:05:33] confidence to foster the growth of your [00:05:36] dreams without sacrificing how you attend to [00:05:39] yourself.
Kimberly Daniel: So [00:05:42] what can you expect from this [00:05:45] podcast in each episode? We hope that [00:05:48] you will discover inspiration to [00:05:51] fuel your passion for community impact and [00:05:54] for entrepreneurship. Steven and I will [00:05:57] share our personal experiences and stories, [00:06:00] and we'll also invite guests to share their own stories and [00:06:03] valuable insights that provide [00:06:06] wisdom for your entrepreneurial path.
You'll hear [00:06:09] from entrepreneurs, you'll hear from impact [00:06:12] builders, community leaders, investors, [00:06:15] and people driven who are people who are [00:06:18] driven by their faith and their [00:06:21] values to lead positive change. In [00:06:24] our communities
Stephen Lewis: and each week [00:06:27] we will leave you with tools and tips to [00:06:30] navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship, [00:06:33] especially for those of you who are often overlooked and [00:06:36] under resource will equip you with the practical [00:06:39] strategies and resources to help you overcome [00:06:42] obstacles and thrive in your purpose driven business.[00:06:45]
Each week, we want to leave you with [00:06:48] something that compels you to come back.
Kimberly Daniel: We'll [00:06:51] also welcome season guides and [00:06:54] mentors who have been in the business game, who [00:06:57] know the tools, the tips, the [00:07:00] tricks of the trade, and have guided [00:07:03] emerging entrepreneurs toward thriving businesses and [00:07:06] success. And for those of you who desire to have [00:07:09] a mentor in business, You just don't know where to look.
[00:07:12] Uh, you don't know where to start to develop [00:07:15] that. We hope that this offers some [00:07:18] guidance to you,
Stephen Lewis: but it's important to know that [00:07:21] this podcast is more than a [00:07:24] resource for hacks to your social impact business. [00:07:27] It's also about slowing down [00:07:30] to go further and allow yourself to [00:07:33] exhale, to reconnect. [00:07:36] With your inner wisdom and rediscover the [00:07:39] power of community philosopher [00:07:42] and entrepreneurial, um, [00:07:45] entrepreneur bio.
Komalofi says it like this. [00:07:48] Times are urgent. Let us slow [00:07:51] down. The field of business entrepreneurship is [00:07:54] fast paced, but we want you, we want to give you the [00:07:57] opportunity to slow down and [00:08:00] focus on your deeply held values and inner [00:08:03] work in ways that positively [00:08:06] infuse with and informs your [00:08:09] business ventures.
Kimberly Daniel: Here you can [00:08:12] embrace the entrepreneurial journey without [00:08:15] compromising your well being. That is so, so [00:08:18] important. This journey is not just about having [00:08:21] the grit necessary for [00:08:24] entrepreneurship, for product market fit, or having a [00:08:27] scalable idea. It's about being aware [00:08:30] In the startup and the early stages of your business that you [00:08:33] are the MVP, you are the most valuable [00:08:36] player.
You are your greatest asset. [00:08:39] So you must attend to yourself and your wellbeing [00:08:42] to not just be successful, but to [00:08:45] thrive in that success. So we hope you [00:08:48] leave each episode feeling just a little bit [00:08:51] lighter, just a little bit lighter and shed some stress. [00:08:54] Embrace yourself, compassion, and you [00:08:57] find joy in the adventure.
Stephen Lewis: And as the [00:09:00] African proverb says, if you want to go fast, [00:09:03] go alone. But if you want to go [00:09:06] far, go together. [00:09:09] Leave this podcast feeling empowered, [00:09:12] recognizing not just yourself as your [00:09:15] greatest asset, but also the community [00:09:18] who is here. To join and support and to [00:09:21] cheer you on together, we want to [00:09:24] help you build a confidence to develop and grow a [00:09:27] viable impact for business and lean into a [00:09:30] community.
