Speaker 1:

hey, welcome everybody to another episode of shooting from the circle where we follow the rumbler football netball club's a grade side on a quest for a premiership for 2024. I'm your host, brett, and thank you for listening. And well, haven't got no games to review. As rumbler, I had a split round, so they had a buy um, so they play next week against cob room. So what I'll do is I'll post the podcast up, say, wednesday, thursday, on a preview of that game, um, but what I do, what I wanted to do, is just recap on how Rumballara have gone over the last six weeks. So if we go back to round one, which was good, friday uh, it was a warm day, rumballara, uh, well, numerica played host to Rumballara, so Rumballara had to go up to Numerica. Um, pretty much Rumballara um stamped their authority early and they pretty much ran them off the game 74-40. Yumerka had a new side, very young side, very raw side, whereas Rumblarra they had the experience of Jesse Barnes and Soph in that shooting circle, jess Bamblett and Chana Steele in that defensive circle, emily and Sarah new recruits I was able to see them for the very first time and they gelled well, they played well, and then you had Kai and Lani in that midcourt. So first game no one knows really what's going on. Yeah, as I said, rumbelara went down in New Merca or went up to New Merca. It wasn't a fierce game. I mean, they probably could have held New Merca to a lesser score, but it was hot and they were using their rolling subs and changing off and everything else. So, as I said, it was eventually a 24, 30, 34 goal. Yeah, I was just looking at that. It was eventually a 34 goal. Uh, win to rumbelara. So they they sort of did it easy at the end, so shooting 74 goals, with Jesse Barnes demanding that ball in that shooting circle. So they knocked over Numerica quite easily.

Speaker 1:

Round two was an absolute cracker. It was a banging game. There's feeling between Moema and Rambalara from last year and that followed through onto the court on round two. Yeah, there wasn't biff and buff, but there was a lot of physical contact and just feeling each other out.

Speaker 1:

Moema came out and absolutely I thought they're going to destroy Rambalara the way that I think they shot the first four or five goals, rambalara chasing their tails. I think it was a six-goal deficit at quarter time and I think it was a 12-goal deficit at halftime. But the third quarter, I don't know what happened, but Moema sort of I don't think they stopped, but I think Rambumbler is pressure around the midcourt, I think their pressure in that shooting circle, um abby larkin, and then they just didn't have no answer for um rumbler and I think one of the worst decisions I've ever seen moama probably do was they took lisa drysdale off in that third quarter and let a young girl come in and she just she got owned by Tiana and Jess Bamblett and it sort of, you know, they really capitalized on what that, what that, what happened and um, yeah, they, they turned it around to a six goal lead Rumballara at three quarter time and eventually they ran out eight goal winners. Score line was, yeah, 49 Rambalara to 41 Moama. But yeah, moama pushed them, moama really, really pushed them and they're going to be a force coming into finals.

Speaker 1:

Moama, they always um so round three moama rumballara. They played kingutna at kingutna. Um, so again they were pushed. They were very slow off the mark, um in their shooting circle, so they were I think it was nine to eight quarter time Very tight, very tight and we thought here we go. You know they've always been thereabouts. But the second quarter, rumballara come out absolutely dominated. Just started free flow netball, just passing it down the court doing their 45s. Um, yeah, they really really started to put the foot down. Um on king up now. Um, yeah, king up sort of struggled a little bit with um, especially in that defensive circle. Yeah, they sort of didn't have no answers. Morgan Zottie played well, taylor Durden she played well as well for King Guttner, but they just didn't have that quality personnel and, as I say, cream always rises to the top eventually. So the score was 57 to 28.

Speaker 1:

So, rumblara, three games, uh, three wins. So, um, they just go over to the chuky united on round five or round four. Chuk united, um, chuk united beat them last year. So I had a new coach in tan. Edwards came from Shepparton in the Golden Valley League. So, new side, not really knowing what's going on with the Tukey United. Yeah, they won a premiership about three, four years ago. So yeah, before COVID or at COVID I think it was. So they got some quality players.

Speaker 1:

So it was an unknown again for Rumballara. But Rumballara went over there and just showed their dominance. Um played as they will. Um kept um Turkey United to 32 goals but shot 64 themselves. So 64 to 32. So 32 goal, uh, lead to um Rambalara at the end.

Speaker 1:

So they started to stamp their authority. I think teams were starting to stand up and take notice because they'd beaten Moama Chikunita was strong the year before and they beat them. But the biggest test was the next week round five, when they had to go down the Cobb Highway to Denoiquin and Danny, two years ago, won their second premiership in a row. So their premiership side yeah, it was going to be a very interesting game. You got Rhianna Maxwell in that shooting circle for Denoiquin, so it was. Yeah, it was going to be an unknown for rumballara.

Speaker 1:

Rumballara wanted to stamp their authority. They wanted to win the game because they thought that, um, even though scores didn't show with denny's other games, rumballara realized that they are a quality side and who knows what they're going to bring out on that day. And well, unfortunately for Denny, they copped another Rambalara side that was just wanting the win and wanting to finish off. And, yeah, it was a 30 goal win to Rambalara, 42 to 72. A 30 goal win to Rambalara, 42 to 72. Yeah, shooting 72 goals against a side that played and won a premiership two years ago, not a. It's not a mean feat, it's not a bad effort from Rambalara.

Speaker 1:

Um, everyone was playing on song. The midcourt was playing well. Jesse Barnes was shooting exceptional. Sarah was a her backup. Yeah, they complemented each other in that shooting circle, same as Tianna Seal and Jess Bamblett in that defensive circle. They just complemented each other.

Speaker 1:

So again, rumbelara coming out on top Five games in a row that they've won. And what that did was it then turned around and opened up for one of the cracking games. Well, what I thought was going to be one of the cracking games of the year. So I thought the Moama game was going to be a cracker and I thought, okay, they're coming up Rumbelara coming up against Tongale Reigning premiers. You got Millie Brock in that shooting circle. She's been on fire. She's been playing B&L for Bendigo Strikers. She's coming up Both shooting circles. They're the best shooting circles in the Murray League. So you got Tongala with Millie Brock, and then you've got Jessie Barnes and Sophie for Rumbelaar.

Speaker 1:

So it was going to be a do-or-die game. So it was going to be a do or die game. It was going to be a struggle. The girls knew that they had a game on their hands. Yeah, this side's the reigning premiers. Yeah, it's hard to win a premiership. So this side, tongala's the reigning premiers. You've got one of the most nicest girls you could possibly have, millie brock in the shooting circle. But she's a, she's a mountain. Yeah, she's hard to get around, she's hard to defend and she can shoot. Yeah, when she's on song she can shoot from anywhere.

Speaker 1:

So um game started and it was. It was different. It was toe to toe, toe to toe. And then janice hill had an intercept and it sort of it opened the floodgates for rumballara. Rumballara just started going bang intercept, intercept, intercept. Uh, missed passes by tongala.

Speaker 1:

Pressure passes were getting to their um, to their players. Um, they'll pass on it at players feet. Um, millie Brock, she's big, she's tall and they're still passing it over her head. So there was a lot of pressure that was put onto Tongala by Rambalara, defensive pressure where Tongala started to make mistakes. They started to make fundamental mistakes because of that perceived pressure and Rumble R just defended like never before. They just defended like never before and they just started to go with the game. Rumble R just started getting shot on the shot on the shot.

Speaker 1:

Emily and Sarah in that midcourt with Lani oh, they had a rehab. The young girl from under-17s Absolutely starred. She did. I think they found a good talent there and I hope they pick her up.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, so Rambalara just had every single answer for Tonga. Tonga had no answers. Their defense was getting shitty. You could see they were getting frustrated because Jessie Barnes just wanted that ball. She missed a shot. She wanted it more in a rebound. Soph was just on song. It didn't matter where they passed the ball to Soph, she was just on song. She would shoot it from anywhere. Tiana Sealand just bamblett in the in the defensive circle, were just on fire.

Speaker 1:

Um, and tongala were lost. They were flabbergasted. They just didn't know what to do. Their supporters, because it was played at tongala. They didn't know what to do, they weren't vocal, they were just looking and just thinking jesus, what have we got here? What is this side? Rambalara. So final score, and I mean this is unbelievable.

Speaker 1:

As I said, you've got a reigning premier. They were all the same girls as the ones that won a premiership last year with Tongala, so their defensive end was the same, their midcourt was the same and their defensive end was the same. The midcourt was the end was the same and their shooting circle was the same. Rambalara final score were able to shoot 73 goals on a defensive duo that won a premiership the year before. So it was 73 to 44, 29 goals, 29 goals.

Speaker 1:

Rambalara beat the reigning premiers by, and that then at that moment, because there were Moama people there watching, there was other teams people watching. At that point other teams realized that shit, rambalara, they're a cracking side. Rambalara, we are in trouble. We are in trouble. Rambumble are. They've got a side that is just relentless. Like they did not show no giving up against Tongala.

Speaker 1:

As I say, you're looking at a premiership reigning premiers. Right up until the start of the year they were touted as premiership favourites to go back-to-back. You know, oh, there's Tongawa side la-la-la. But they got absolutely demolished, absolutely demolished by Rambalara and what that's done is put a target on Rambalara's back Sides. Now they're just after him.

Speaker 1:

I know there's sides out there that are scared to play Rumballara because they just don't know how to do it. As I said, you've got Jessie Barnes. If she doesn't win the league best and fairest this year, I'll go. Hey, I'm going to put it right on the table now. If she doesn't win the league best and fairest in the Murray League this year I'll go. He I would ask for a recount because I think someone might have stuffed up and hadn't put her in, because if she doesn't go close or wins that league, best of first, yeah, I don't know, I don't know how she'd win it then. But yeah, as I said, they absolutely demolished Tongala. Tongala had no, they had nothing. They literally had nothing. So anyway, they walked away from that with another win, every other side, starting to talk about Rumbolaro. Now they're undefeated, the only undefeated side in the Murray League at the moment.

Speaker 1:

So the following week they head over the border to Moela, moela Town. So the following week they head over the border to Moawala town, moawala, grand finalist last year against Tongala. They only lost to Tongala by eight goals, or seven goals last year in the grand final. So not only did they have to come up against Tongala, the reigning premiers, the following week Rambalara have to come up against the grand finalists, who only lost by seven goals.

Speaker 1:

Um, and pretty much, yeah, it was. It was a different game. It was sort of it wasn't a free-flowing game like rumballara are known to play. It was more, it was a stop start, it was hold this or yeah, it was just different. The game was just different. They, yeah, they were missing easy passes to each other. And I'm not just talking my one, I'm talking about Rumballara as well. It was a very, very different game where, yeah, it just it's hard to explain. It was a different game.

Speaker 1:

Anyway, at the end of the day, rumballara come on top. So 61 to 38, with the score breakdown so, yeah, it was 18 to 11, quarter time 35 to 13. So pretty much, they only put two goals on in one quarter Moala. They put two goals on in one quarter Moela, and then halftime was 35-13, three-quarter time 49-24. So it was a 25-goal lead. Very, very hard, very hard to win that much, to come back from that much and to win it. So the final score was 61-38,.

Speaker 1:

Rumble R probably should have won by more, but they didn't. Um, so that was so. That's, that was the game. So they've gone undefeated from round one up to round seven. Um the ladder it looks like this so Rumble R on top with 28 points. Obviously, moama at the moment is sitting second, but Tongala playing next week, tongala is third. Then you've got Nathalia. Nathalia only just won.

Speaker 1:

On the weekend I heard that one of their shooters has gone down with a ruptured ACL, so I hope she's all right. You don't want to have that, especially in netball, it's nasty. Then you've got Finlay in fifth, denny Rams in sixth, malwale is seventh, cobram eighth, kingut in the ninth, yumerka tenth, echiki United eleventh and last but not least, is Beruga. So you have got some sides that haven't played yet, and so those sides are. So the sides that are going to play this week will be Cobham against Rumballara, so I'll do a preview of that game later on. You're also going to have Denny Rams against Chuky United. So that is going to be a good game. That'll be a really good close game.

Speaker 1:

And then I think you look at it, probably last year and the year before, and you'd say, oh, tongala, finlay. Yeah, tony's going to romp it in, but Finlay have got some good pickups. They've got Chelsea McDonald in that shooting circle. Now they're Libby Sharp, if she comes down, she's filled in a couple of times for them, but she lives in Queensland, so it could be another danger game for Tongala. You know, I think Finlay might be the sleeper. They might be that side that, just you know, just go underneath the radar and all of a sudden they pop up finals time. So that is going to be a cracking game, um, but yeah, so those sides are yet to still play, so that ladder will change because I think tiny will be finley. So if tiny be finley, they'll jump up to moema.

Speaker 1:

Um, rumblara definitely, rumbelara definitely will beat Cobram, so it's, yeah, the latter. It's still sorting itself out. So that's what's happening with Rumbelara. As I said, they've had to split round, so they're playing Cobram. I think Madika's back, but Emily's still gone. I think Emily's still got another week, two weeks to go.

Speaker 1:

This side is going to be so exciting when their team comes back, when they've got a full team. It is going to be exciting times for Rumbler Football Network Club's A-grade side. But at the moment they're still feeling their way. They're losing girls to go overseas and troops and everything else. I'm not sure what's going on with Nikoi Bamblett. I don't know whether she's going to come back or I don't know.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, watch this space because I think, I don't think Rumble Arrow will go undefeated all year. But I tell you what they'll come close and they play Tongala last game in home and away. So, yeah, they play Tongala last and Moama second last game. So yeah, you've got two hard games, well, even three, because they played Denny Rams prior to that. So the last three games are going to be very hard. Um, so they really need to have a look at who they've got now, what they're doing, and I'd love to see them go undefeated, but no, I don't think it's going to happen. I think they'll lose a couple of games, but they'd only want to just lose a couple.

Speaker 1:

But anyway, that is me, brett, with another episode of Shooting From the Circle, as I said, just recapping on how Rumbelara has gone so far, because no games. So I just thought I'd show what's coming up, what they've done. And, yeah, I'll do a review of the Cobram game on maybe Wednesday or Thursday, but until then, that is me, brett. Thank you again for listening. Have a great weekend, have a great week and I'll talk to you later. Bye.
