Speaker 1:

Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of Shooting From the Circle, a podcast all about the Rumballara Football Netball Club's A-grade side and a quest for a premiership in 2024. I'm your host, brett. Thank you for listening and welcome to. Today is review day of yesterday's game, when Rumbler went down the road to New America to play New America. They played New America the first round, which was on Good Friday, and for some unknown reason, with the draw they've gone back to New America again yesterday and it was an interesting game. I will say that um, but I suppose for rumballara they're just keeping the momentum going. Um, for new america, obviously improvement. So first game it was a 44 to 74, so it was 30 goals, or Rumblarra beat them by. It was a hot day, on Good Friday, so you would think after that that your Numerica would turn around and improve. So I went and seen them on the WorkSafe or WorkCover WorkSafe day. Numerica played Nathalia and I really thought that they'd improved. But you look back and they played good. They only lost by 14 goals. So they played really good netball. Their transitions down the court were great. They were using their 45 as well, rolling out in their shooting circle. But yeah, you'd think that with those improvements that I've seen, that they would have had a lot more wins, but they hadn't those improvements that I've seen, that they would have had a lot more wins but they hadn't. So they're pretty much their form. Leading into the Rambalara game yesterday was they drew against Beruga, which is very surprising. So Beruga, I think they've only got the two points prior to the draw with New America, they had none. So that was very surprising that they drew to Baruga, because two weeks earlier they beat Malweila. So Malweila was a grand finalist last year against Tongala. So to come up and beat Malweila but then to only draw with Baruga was probably disappointing for New America and probably for their coaches. Very inconsistent, so, but yeah.

Speaker 1:

So yesterday, as I said, rambalara again played away. Unfortunately their facilities weren't ready. I've been assured by the president, josh, that they are going to be up and running next week. So Rambalara will host their very first home game. So make sure everyone gets down and watches. They're going to be playing Nathalia. Their footballers have been playing really good football. It's just personnel issues with injuries and that yesterday that didn't get them over the line, but Hendo's been doing a great job with the football side of things and in the netball obviously with the A-grade they're undefeated at the moment, rambalara. So they're going to come up against Nathalia next week. I'll do a preview of that game on Tuesday but, as I said, let's kick right into the review yesterday.

Speaker 1:

So yesterday, rambalara, they had a few personnel issues which they've had probably for the last three or four weeks. So Emily obviously is still not back from Europe. Madika was back now. She trained Thursday night. She came in and did her warm-up yesterday and she sort of tweaked a hamstring on Thursday night but hoping it was going to be right, but it was a bit tight. So she's pretty much on the spot In the warm-up. She has turned around and put her hand up and said I can't play, which is great because you'd rather her not play now than not later on because she's a pinnacle part of the A-grade side of Romola. Also, kai was feeling a little bit under the weather so she really didn't warm up properly at all. So they had young Ali Morgan from the under-17s Now she's normally a shooter. They had Djora Weston. They were both sitting on the bench.

Speaker 1:

So pretty much the starting lineup for Rumblara and I'll go through it from shooters down to defenders. So the starting lineup was Sophie Atkinson in goal shooter. Jessie Barnes-Hill was goal attack. Now Dejora sorry, she started in wing attack. You had then Sarah, who's just been an absolute steward. She's just been strong in that center and I found out last week that she actually has blisters on her feet that bleed, so she needs time off, but she is a machine in that center circle you had Lani who played wing defense. She is solid, rock solid. In that center circle you had Lani who played wing defense. She is solid, rock solid in that wing defense. Obviously you had the dynamic duo down the end, so Tiana Steele playing goal defense and Jess Bamblett playing goalkeeper. So that was a start.

Speaker 1:

As I said, the game was a bit different at the start. So at the start off they went and with the personnel issues that Rambalara had, you were thinking okay, numerka, they could have a chance here. They probably did, and I'm not being disrespectful, but they probably did. For the first two minutes, first two minutes of that game they really put it up to rambalara. But then again rambalara's um midcourt and that just got on top. Um jora come off and this young ali morgan came on and um, if she learns to catch the ball with two hands and if she learns to go with go the ball with two hands and if she learns to go the ball with two hands, she proved herself yesterday and it's a testimonial, it's a testament to Jess Bamblett the way she's got these girls going.

Speaker 1:

It doesn't matter which girl comes in, they play their role. And a bit like Craig McRae at Collingwood was saying and also talking about that, I am wearing a MMD Big Freeze beanie because it is a Big Freeze weekend, so great cause. You know, with Neil Danaher doing what he's doing, he should be Australian of the Year what he's doing. But yeah, I am repping the Big Freeze and we'll be going down to the football tomorrow to watch the game. But going back to it, it's a testament to the way Jess has probably coached over the last probably two or three weeks or two or three years. Jess Bamber, that girls will come on and they play a role and they play a role that doesn't look out of place with the rest of the team. So these other girls have played with each other over the period of six, seven, eight weeks, nine weeks. They trained together Young Ali Morgan she's a shooter.

Speaker 1:

As I said, she's a shooter. She's a tall girl, athletic and yeah, she came onto that wing attack and she had drive and I don't know whether it's because she's a shooter, but her feed into Jesse Barnes and Sophie Atkinson was unbelievable. It was, yeah, her passing in. So first quarter Rumbler, I saw that they just got on top and just started to do what they wanted to do. To be honest, and it's disappointing for New Merca because I thought they would have improved.

Speaker 1:

Now I did notice with New Merca, their goal defence was actually their goal attack in the first game. So obviously they did a little bit of shuffling around, a little bit of movement. They had a tall shooter, um, I think they had their coach as a goal attack and then this tall, uh, young girl, which I mean they did pretty well, but um, yeah, I think their midcourt was lacking, um, and yeah, and then just their defense, like the ball was coming into Jesse Barnes and Soph, that hot, you know, through feeds from the girls, like from, as I said, ali Morgan, from Sarah and even up until that, up to that goal, third line in the centre, yeah, you had Tiana Steele lobbing them into Jess. Yeah, they'll just the defense for, um, the merca just wasn't there and it's. It's disappointing, I guess, because, as I said, they beat mauela, yeah, three weeks ago, four weeks ago, um, and whether that's a personal issue I don't know, but um, they just looked out of place from about two minutes in. So for the first two minutes they were dominating Well, not dominating the game, but they were keeping up with Rumballara. But then it just broke open. You know Jess Bamblett in that defensive circle, just unbelievable, yeah, the old super cat I'm going to call her super cat because she's just her reflexes are just on point. Tiana Steele reading when they were coming in and getting the intercepts, lani was absolutely rock solid in wing defense. Again, it's funny when you watch Lani play, she's just laid back, but then as soon as that ball comes, she's just onto it. And that's what I mean, that's what I was saying before about these girls that come in and they play a role. And yeah, my hat goes off to Jess Bamblett. Over the last probably three or four years, she's got a team now that actually a girl could come on. Look, they'll swap it out.

Speaker 1:

And, as I said, ali was playing wing attacker, she, yeah, and, as I said, it just wasn't going Yumerka's way. Yeah, there was a lot of fundamental mistakes and Rambalara were just picking up on it and they were just scoring willy-nilly, they were just continually scoring. They were able to score, they were able to get that free ball. So that free ball is a turnover, so it's a free ball. It shouldn't have been Rambalara, so they were using a free ball. You know it shouldn't have been Rumballara, so they were using that free ball. They were using that turnover to capitalize and score. They were pretty much scoring all the time. And if they weren't scoring, you know, if they didn't score off the first shot, that was rebound after rebound, after rebound. And yeah, soph and Jesse Barnes were working so well in that shooting circle. Yeah, they're rolling off, transitioning off, transitioning back, and then the girls, you know, manning that circle.

Speaker 1:

So, as I said, the quarter just blew out, unfortunately for Numerica. So the end of the quarter the score was 21 to 5. You know it's 16 goals in the first quarter You're already 16 goals up and your shooters are on song. And then for Numerica they've got to look and think, you know, we've only shot five goals. So the defense for Rambalara was just unbelievable and I'm going to get into the forwards and against later for Rambalara was just unbelievable. And I'm going to get into the for's and against's later for Rambalara because some good sides or some great sides will have predominantly more of one than the other, but I'll go through it later.

Speaker 1:

So second quarter come in and then Kai come on as a wing defense. Lani was coming off, there was rotations and, as I said, ali, she was still playing that wing attack role and the girls just continued on. As I said, they would swap out, they would rotate off the bench With these rolling subs. I reckon it's just absolutely brilliant now. I think the rolling subs are just the way, the way to go, um, and you can get fresh legs on um. So there was, they were rotating off, and you know. And then tiana and jess were working hard in that defensive circle. Um, a lot of rebounds, a lot of pick, pick-offs, a lot of intercepts, which was just absolutely fantastic for the both of them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was just great to watch, as I said, sarah non-stop in that center. You get Alla in wing attack and then you've got two wing defense girls that play and this is going to sound weird, but they play totally different, but they play the same. So Kai's more of a body on wing defense, whereas Lani is a body off, but when that ball comes down, they fight for that ball. They really fight for that ball, and there was times where they were able to rotate out and Kai would go into centre. So, you know, having Kai back is extremely. You know it's fundamental for a Rumballara. You know she's a strong, you know she's only 18 or 17. And that's another thing. They've got a mix of old and young with Rumballara, and you've got Jess Barnes down there. That's just demanding that ball.

Speaker 1:

And the way they played, like their transitions through that midcourt, just so from the fence, they had it worked out, they knew where to go, they knew what to do. There was a couple of times there, though, that the girls were caught together, which, yeah, I it's going to happen. It's a small court, but they were together, so they sort of had to spread. But you had the direction from Jess Bamber and Tiana Steele in that defensive circle looking down, and Jesse Barnes as well. So just their transitions coming through that midcourt and their passing was pinpoint. Their passing was just bang, bang, bang and then picking off, say, if it was Numerka was coming down, they were able to pick off and get intercepts.

Speaker 1:

And the second quarter was pretty much, yeah, unfortunately, it was like the first, unfortunately for Numerka, not unfortunately for Rambalara, but yeah, it was just again just continually bringing the ball down. Rambalara were and just able to, you know, they were just their shots were on and if they weren't, there was a couple of times there where, yeah, they were sort of, you know, giving each other three or four goes at it. You know Soph would miss and she'd try and rebound and then Jess would miss and she'd get the rebound. But one thing that they started to do was a lot of teams and they've noticed and I'm not going to give too much away for Rumbelara with their gameplay but they started to utilize Soph a lot more in situations where you wouldn't normally use Soph and it was really really working out well because, you know, the defense was double-teaming Jess, because Jess is a strong focal point, they were double-teaming her and, yeah, they started to use Sophie in a lot of other aspects and I think it's fantastic. It sort of mixes it up.

Speaker 1:

So, as I said, second quarter, pretty much like the first Halftime, score was 37 to 13. So it was 18 goals to eight that quarter. So already it's a 24-goal lead. Halftime, 24 goals. And you started to think to yourself, how far can Rumble R go, how far can they go? Well, they went further.

Speaker 1:

And so the third quarter come on, and they made a few changes. So Jesse Bamblett come off. So Tiana went into goalkeeper, larnie went into goal defense, kai went into wing defense, koi went into wing defense, ally was still, ella was still wing attack, um and sarah was still center and it pretty much they just came out and went bang, bang, bang, rumble rd. They just, you know, as I said, these it does not matter where they play, they have got a role to play within this team and they play it well. So Lani, as I said, she can win defense. Tiana was goalkeeper and they were still able to work. It wasn't polished work like Tiana and Jess Bamblett do, but they were able to work.

Speaker 1:

And then there was times where Sarah sarah would then was able to come off. So after a while, jess band that come back on. She had a bit of a twinge. She came back on and, um, sarah was able to come off. She was able to have her, have her break, um, and, as I said, she is a massively fit. Uh, young lady, and she just, yeah, you need to have that break. So that third quarter there was some mix, yeah, some mixes up with the players. Um, you know, ali come off and then she come back on and I thought she played a great game all like for the whole four quarters.

Speaker 1:

Being an under 17, being a shooter, play wing that wing, attack position, um, and they just continually nullified Numerka. They just continually picking off and, as I said, before their transitions down the court, they were using their 45s and they would reset. And the thing was, it got to a point where the defense for Rambalara was that strong that you know, numerka were, you know, going one step forward but three steps back. They were passing back and then passing back again and they just couldn't nullify that defense. And these girls were hands over ball, they were hands up, they were. You know, there was a lot of times where New Merca would throw the ball and Tiana Steele or Jess Bamblett, they were able to jump and intercept that ball and just grab it. So the pressure, I don't think New Merca handled the defensive pressure and, as I said, rumbelara just nailed it down, they screwed it down and, yeah, america had no answer. And it's becoming a trend in these podcasts where I say every week that the opposition had no answer.

Speaker 1:

And, as I said, rumbelara, at the moment they're able to transition the way they think. So things aren't going their way, they're able to. Each individual is able to stop and work out what they need to do for that team and to go again. They did it against Moama and I'll remember that because I said it in my podcast reviewing the Moama game that there were some things that weren't going right. Now I'm not saying things weren't going right yesterday, it was just that they were able to change things up. They were able to slow play, fast play, just change things up.

Speaker 1:

And that third quarter, yeah, they call it the premiership quarter, so three-quarter time and, as I said, they were doing changes. So ali would come off. Uh, lani was in goal defense with tiana and they're able to swap around. Now I'm not saying, if you're up against a quality side, like they played, they played tony and beat tony and they didn't do a lot of changes. Um, so, and that's just a personnel. So if you had Madika there and if you had Emily there, yeah, the future's looking bright for Rambalara netball at the moment coming into the back half of the end of the season.

Speaker 1:

So, as I said, the goals just kept on coming. For Rambalara, three-quarter time it was 58-22. So Rambalara, in that quarter, even though they had players come off, they were able to score 21 but restrict Njumirka to only nine. So it was a 36-goal lead at three-quarter time. There's no way Njumirka are going to come back to that. There was no way Njum Merca were going to come back to that. There was no way New Merca was going to come. All New Merca were able to do was probably save grace and just save face and just play the game out. To be honest, they had no answer for the first three quarters. I'm never going to have an answer for the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1:

Rambalara started the fourth quarter as they started the first, with all their players on. Jorah was off but they were able to. As, again, fourth quarter, they were able to swap out, swap in, swap out, swap out. I know Soph came goal attack and Jesse Barnes went to goal shooter. Those two are able to swap out every week. Barnes went to goal shooter those two are able to swap out every week. And Jessie Bamblett came back in to help Tiana in that defensive circle. But Lani did a great job there. She done a great job in wing defense, ali done a good job in wing attack, sarah Coy done a great job in centre. So the whole team just continually gelled so um, and their defense was just absolutely tight. The defense was tight, it was brilliant.

Speaker 1:

As I said, they just locked down, they were locking down the team, they were locking down Yumerka, they were strangling Yumerka. They were getting to a point where they just they had no more court to throw the ball back to, no more court to throw the ball back to. They were just throwing it willy-nilly. They had to throw back to try and reset and it just wasn't happening because of the defense of Rambalara. It's probably one of the best defensive games I've seen Rambalara play.

Speaker 1:

Yesterday we could say oh yeah, but it's only in America. But no disrespect for America. They're a quality side. It's just I don't know what's going on there, but Rumble are, as defense yesterday, for the whole four quarters was just sublime. They locked it down and I suppose they need to be like that because they're coming up now. They're going to be coming in the back end of the year with teams that are going to want to beat them. I'll do a preview of the Nathalia game that they play next week. That'll be a hard game.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, rumblers, their defensive pressure yesterday with Jesse Bamblett, larnie Larnie Atkinson, and then the defensive, defensive end of Sarah and Kai playing centre and not just being attacking centres but also being defensive centres, was absolutely brilliant. And then, you know, ali or Ella, she was, you know, being defensive in wing attacks, so when their ball was coming down, you know they, she was being defensive in wing attacks, so when their ball was coming down, they were still being defensive. There was a couple of times where Soph got a couple of intercepts, jessie Barnes got a couple of intercepts, so the whole side. Even though their offense was brilliant, their defense was absolutely sensational too yesterday and they really really worked together. Unfortunately for Numerica, yeah, they came up against a red-hot Rambalara it was.

Speaker 1:

I thought it was going to be. Well, it was a blowout, but I really thought that. You know, I thought Rambal era was going to hit the 80s in their goals. They the way they were going. And I right, I was talking to jesse barnes after the game and she said the same thing she was waiting for the 80. Um, just unfortunate. There was a couple of things that went wrong, but they shot. So end of this, end of the game was over. End of the game was over. As I said, the game was over. As I said, the girls, great pressure. The final score was 78 to 29. That's a 48 or 49 goal win 49. So 78, two goals off, shooting 80.

Speaker 1:

Now this, I think it's the third, fourth, maybe fifth game where Rumbelara shot over 70 goals. And that brings me into in a minute about the fours and against how Rumbelara are going at the moment. So 20 goals to seven in that quarter. So look at the trend, you look at the way Rumbelara played that game. So they shot 21 in the first quarter, they shot 18 in the second quarter, they shot 21 in the third quarter and 20. So they're averaging. Besides, and I suppose that second quarter they could have got their 80, but they're averaging on about 17 goals a quarter. So that puts a lot of pressure on defensive teams. That puts a lot of pressure on teams that are trying to defend them. And you look at the tall towers at Rumbler. I've got Jesse Barnes and Sophie Atkinson.

Speaker 1:

When you're scoring five games or six games above 70 goals, you've got no hope as an opposition side Opposition sides now probably going to look at it and need to think defensive. They need to go defensive on Rambalara. But then in saying that, rambalara, they're a defensive unit as well. So yesterday, unfortunately for Numerka, they ran into a ramping Rumblara the juggernaut continues. Rumblara still undefeated up against Nathalia. Next week.

Speaker 1:

As I said, I'll do a preview of that. That'll be a cracking game. Nathalia they're sitting sixth at the moment. Yeah, so they're sitting fifth. Actually they're on 24. They've won six and lost three. So very interesting See how things go. Nathalia have got some quality defenders in Ashkahn who played for Shep. It'll be a very interesting game next week. Will it be Rumblara's first loss? You wouldn't want to hope so, being first home game, but I mean anything can happen. It's just the way the mindset is and how they go about it Now, as I said, unfortunately for Numerka, rampaging Rumblarra and that'll be the title of this podcast Rampaging Rumbelara the Juggernaut Continues.

Speaker 1:

I said earlier about quality sides or great sides. They'll either be up there for fours or up there for against. So you're either going to have a great offensive side or a great defensive side. I'll just give some figures here that I had a look at, they're sitting on 36 points so undefeated. Their fours are 584, and their against is 319. So they are 90 goals more. They've shot 90 goals more than their closest opposition. So they've nearly shot 100 goals more than all the other sides in the league in the A grade. So yeah, and then with their defensive they're only five or seven goals off. They're seven goals off being number one defensive side in Murray League A grade at the moment. So they're number one offensive in the fours, but defensive they are only seven goals excuse me, only seven goals off being number one. So when you look at that, you could probably say that they are the number one defense and offensive side in the Murray League at the moment in A grade, and you could probably say that's why they're undefeated at the moment.

Speaker 1:

And then they've got a midcourt that is just quality. So you've got quality shooters at Rumballara and you've got quality defense and you've got quality defense. You know Tiana Steele and Jess Bamblett, jessie Barnes, sophie Atkinson. But don't give it away on that midcourt though. That midcourt is the reason why they're shooting goals. Their midcourt is the reason why they're defensive the way they are as well, because they play defensive as well as offensive. So, with Sarah Kai back, lani Ali on the weekend, and then when you get Emily back and Madika back, who's going to stop them? I guess who is going to stop Rambalara? Yeah, who knows?

Speaker 1:

Now, the team that is winning I suppose you could say winning the defensive end at the moment is Nathalia. So they have conceded seven goals less. Well, actually, they've conceded four goals less than their second side and, as I said, rumbelar is seven goals less. So you'd say at the moment because facts are facts that they are the number one defensive side in the in the club and they're coming up against a hundred goal lead, number one offensive side in in scoring side in Rumbelara. So you're looking at the number one offensive side in in scoring side in rumble. So you're looking at the number one defensive side up against the number one scoring side, and it's only because of seven goals. It's only seven goals.

Speaker 1:

Um, and that could all change on the weekend, but that is how this game on the weekend is going to pan out um against nathalia, as I said, I'll do a preview of it on tuesday. Um against Nathalia, as I said, I'll do a preview of it on Tuesday. But, yeah, as I said, number one defense up against the best shooting team in the league, best shooting team in the league at the moment. They are just absolutely on song, um, a hundred goals ahead of everybody, everybody. As I said, nathalia are fifth. It'll be a game to preview this weekend. Yeah, it'll be a massive game, as I said.

Speaker 1:

Defensively, yeah, nathalia, you'd say that, but I mean it depends on who they played. But yeah, scoring power, you can't go past Rob Lara at the moment. As I said, 90 goals. They've shot 90 goals more than any other team. 90 goals, you think about it. You think that's two games. That is two games. You probably average. Good teams average 40, maybe 50 goals a game. They've shot 90 goals more. They've shot two games more than every other side. So that is the powers of their shooting circle at the moment.

Speaker 1:

Rambla R, and that's something that a lot of other teams are going to have to look at. So, as I said, that is my review of the Numerica-Rambla R game. I think Rambla R got one more away game, so they've got a home game. Josh, you said a home game this weekend against Nathalia coming up. Hopefully it's going to be a cracker day, because that was another thing. It just was so reminiscent of Good Friday, the game on the weekend it was hot, good Friday game was hot, so hopefully it's going to be a good game for their very first home game. You know, rumblaras, and it's going to be. You know it'll be a cracking day.

Speaker 1:

I really, yeah, I hope the netballers win. You don't want to be coming back, yeah, and I don't want to put the moths on them, but I don't think they will. I don't want to put the Moz on them, but I don't think they'll lose, rambalara. I think they'll beat Nathalia because they've just got to try and stop their shooting circle, but, yeah, so at home this weekend against Nathalia, as I said, the final score Rambalara 78, Yumerka 29.

Speaker 1:

Yumerka had no hope, they had no challenges to Rumbelara. They just could not. They, they look lost, they looked, yeah, frail, um. They just could not, could not capitalize, they couldn't, they couldn't do anything, um and Rumbelara just being so strong, so so strong, um, and they're on a. They're on a high, you know, and their motivation and that's the one good thing is their motivation is still there and, as I said, they've got these young girls like Ali Morgan, dura Weston coming in and they're playing their roles. They've had young girls come in and fill in because you know things have happened injuries and going away and everything else which is going to happen in netball but they've all played their role. They've all done it to the best of their ability, and the best of their ability is exactly what Rumbelara want. And yeah, that is it. Thank you for listening.

Speaker 1:

As I said, I'm Brett, your host. This is just my views, my views only. I'm not affiliated with anyone. I've got a daughter that plays at rumbler, but I just wanted to do this um just for recognition for the rumbler netball club. Um, because there's a lot of things about football and everything else but not about rumbler netball. So this podcast is just to help get people recognized about the rumbler netball club, especially their a grade this year, because, because it looks like at the moment, it looks like it's their premiership to lose, it looks like it's going to be a successful year. Anything can happen in netball. But, as I said, that is me, brett. Thank you very much for listening.

Speaker 1:

I will do the preview of the Nathalia game on Tuesday and be back here on Sunday for the review of the game. But, as I said, unfortunately for New America. They just couldn't get the chocolates, they were just underdone. Come up against a rampaging Rambalara, the juggernaut continues. As I said, it was 78-29, fifth game that Rambalara scored over 70 goals, so it's something the other sides are going to have to look at. Anyway, that is me, brett. Thank you very much for listening and have a great weekend. Have a great week and, as I said, support MMD. It's the beast, it's a killer that no one sees. And, yeah, I'll be going down to the big freeze game tomorrow. Um, yeah, go the pies. All right, thank you very much and have a great week. I'm out bye.
