Speaker 1:

hey everybody and welcome back to santa pass. A podcast all about a man talking netball and getting crucified for it. I'm your host, nuff said, and today we're going to do the preview, or the review, I should say, of the Rumballara versus Moela game that happened yesterday at Rumballara. It's going to be a bit of a short podcast, only because I wasn't at the game, so I'm only just going on feedback that I've been told. So yesterday was a very, very shitty day for netball. It was rainy, it was windy, it was bitterly cold. So these girls you know brave the elements got out on that court. Um, and my hat goes off to both sides any, any girl that gets out there in the middle of the rain and has a crack at playing netball. My hat goes off to them all because they're pretty dedicated and obviously they love the sport that they play. So, as I said, this podcast or this episode will be short because I wasn't at the game yesterday, but a few developments about the game, from what I've been told, and these developments could have an effect on Rumballara coming into finals or even the next couple of games anyway. So this weekend coming they've got Achuki United, then Danny, then Moama and then Pongala. So yeah, there's a couple of things that we'll touch on in a minute, but for the first part of it we'll look at the score and probably the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1:

I'm not sure really what's happened, but yeah, the last couple of weeks have been a little bit different for Rumble Horror. So, as we all know, they are very much a scoring power with Jess Barnes and Soph Atkinson in that shooting circle. They have been phenomenal all year. They've been shooting 70, 80 goals. I think they're averaging, at one stage, 75 goals a game. But over the last couple of weeks it sort of has died off a bit. So since they played Congutna, where it was a 71-21 win, they scored 75 goals there and then last week they scored 67 uh against finley um, which is not a bad effort actually, because finley um, they they were without lily sharp, obviously, but they, their defenders, did pretty well, um.

Speaker 1:

But then you come into this game and they'll play in my way. My way was out of the, out of the Yarsix. They won't play finals this year in Malwale, which is unfortunate for them. I think I said in my preview of this game that they're probably a little bit disappointed where they are, where they've finished. Obviously, yeah, they probably wanted to finish, yeah, a little bit higher because they did play in the grand final last year against Tongala. So they're sort of, yeah, mid-range this year.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, lily Sharp leaving was a massive big hole to try and fill for them, but they had been playing well, they'd been shooting well for them, but they had been playing well, like they'd been shooting well. Um, and yeah, yesterday, uh, again, uh, rambalara was out without tiana steel, so she was in adelaide, uh, on a little bit of a break. Um, yeah, developments are that you know she will be back this week, but that's yet to be confirmed, so I'm not real sure how that's going to go. But, as I said, we'll get into the other major development, another major injury that occurred with Rambalara on the weekend. But if we look at the score breakdown, the final score was 48-35. The final score was 48-35. Rumbelara really, really, really didn't put Moela away and are able to allow Moela to score 35 goals.

Speaker 1:

As I said, you didn't have Tiana Steele in that goal defensive circle with Jess Bamlett, so whether that paid a toll, I don't know. They had Tash Bamlett playing there. Now, tash is a very strong defender. She was a premium defender at Shep Swans when she played there. So she's a very, very capable defender.

Speaker 1:

But I think I've said in my last podcast that if you take away two players that have played together for you know, and they've trained together, played together for two years Tiana Steele and Jess Bamblett and again my condolences go out to Jess Bamblett because last week or the week before she lost her mum. This week Jess Gawne, she lost her nan as well. So my condolences go out to Jess Bamblett and her family. She's having a bit of a hard time at the moment, um with a lot of things, so, so that probably was on her mind as well. Um, coming into the game um, yeah, I know last week she was mentally and physically knackered at the end of the game against Finlay and because of her mum passing away and you know, Chowna still not playing, and this week obviously probably the same sort of thing.

Speaker 1:

So if we look at the score breakdown for that game, I mean really Rumbelara come out firing in the first quarter. From what I can see as I said, I wasn't there, I'm just going on some feedback that I've been told but they really came out firing in that first quarter. Conditions weren't ideal, as I said. There was a lot of rain, a lot of wind, it was bitterly cold and, yeah, no one really wants to get out there and play. But these girls did and, as I said at the start of my podcast, my hat goes off to all of them. They went out and they shot 17-7 in that first quarter, which is pretty normal for Rumbler, and they sort of build on that. So, as the game continues, they build on that. So they were 10 goals up first quarter, probably feeling okay with themselves. Obviously, jess Barnes and Sophie Atkinson in that shooting circle are on top, so they're probably coming into quarter time feeling good with themselves and really, really up and about the second quarter.

Speaker 1:

Different story though, so the second quarter, mo Whiler won that quarter by one, so they shot 11 goals to rumballara's 10, so half time was 27 to 18, um, so it's really, you know, it's. They pegged it back to a nine goal lead. Now, normally half time, rumballara sitting on, you know, between 15 to 20 goal leads, uh, in a lot of their games this year, um, and they've really stamped their approval, you know, and their authority in those second and third quarters and it's pretty much, yeah, the game's over by three quarter time and um, it's just a formality in that last quarter, but obviously Mo Whaler have come out and realized that they could probably be on song here and, as I said, that defensive circle, just just. Ah, bamblett has to do it on her own again. Yeah, and with Tash Bamblett, and maybe I'm not too sure, but maybe Kai went in there, I'm not too sure, but obviously Moela were on top in that quarter. They really really pushed Rambalara by the looks of this.

Speaker 1:

So, as I said, halftime 27-18, rambalara's way. So they're nine goals in front. Probably not ideal. They probably would have. Well, I know for a fact they would have liked or been a lot further in front, but unfortunately they weren't.

Speaker 1:

So the third quarter come along and really, but yeah, rambalara really then put the foot down. So they shot 13 goals in that third quarter. So they've obviously come out and went. You know what we really need to pull our finger out. So they shot 13 goals to Moela, sorry, nine goals. So, yeah, they won that quarter by four and then it was a 13-goal lead, 13-goal lead coming into the last quarter. So it isn't a buffer. It's not a very good buffer to have 13 goals. I mean, anyone could pick 13 goals off, but they'd probably be, yeah, rumbelara probably feeling yep, yep, yeah, this is fine.

Speaker 1:

And, as I said, the conditions probably didn't help any of the players because, rumbelara, their game play is a lot of quick passes, a quick movement and quick into the shooting circle where the defenders haven't got time to set up and haven't got really time to defend. So, as I said, it's a 13-go. At three quarter time, 40 to 27, um. The last quarter though, yeah, it was a little bit, yeah, a little bit strange it was. It was like um, and I know, yeah, we talk about in football. They had a kicking in, yeah, one one. It seems that one end of the ground is where you kick all your goals and the other end is where you don't. Yeah, so that last quarter Rumble only scored eight goals to let me have a look to eight. So pretty much it was eight goals to eight. It must have been a very, very scrappy last quarter. So, as I said, three-quarter time was 40-27. End of the game it was 48-35. So, rumbler, 13-goal win against a side that's sitting outside the six.

Speaker 1:

Now I know Moela have've gotten better as the as the years go on. They sort of struggled at the at the start and there's probably this is probably a bit of a wake-up call for rumballara to realize that you know, um, things aren't always going to go their way. Um, they've showed some resilience in the last um, yeah, probably in the last two weeks because, yeah, they haven't had tiana steel um with them and, yeah, there was there was some uh talk that maybe she wasn't going to come back, but, um, I think the story is now that she will. Um, but the biggest thing that has come out of this um and with this game and I said at the start of my podcast was an injury to one of the Rumbler players and she's an absolute superstar and that's to Jess Bamblett. So, through the game, jess Bamblett's gone down with a very serious ankle injury and, yeah, it looks like she might have fractured her ankle. They're not too sure. So that means, unfortunately, for the last two games, jess Bamblett's had to do it without Tiana Steele and now Tiana Steele's going to have to do it without Jess Bamblett. So this will come down to test Tiana Steele's maturity and her resilience and to test the resilience of the club, because you know they've got a Chuky United this week. So Jess Bamber has pretty much said that she won't train. She's going to keep everything off. You know, keep everything off her ankle. She won't train this week, she's not going to play. They'll play Chuky United this week. So, yeah, and that's no disrespect to Chuky United, but they are very much down near the bottom end of the ladder, so maybe Rambalara can afford not to have Jess Bamber play. So I think Tash Bamber and Channa Steele will be working in that goal in that defensive circle.

Speaker 1:

As I said, it's probably lucky for rambalara that tiana steel's coming back. Um, it was, yeah, there was talk that maybe she wasn't, but, um, yeah she's. She's sort of given the thumbs up to say that she will. Um, she just had to get away, uh, and yeah, just look after herself for a bit. Um. So, yeah, it's going to be interesting the next couple of weeks because, as I said, they do have a Chukya night this week. They do then go into probably a bracket of three games.

Speaker 1:

It'll probably be it'll mould who they are as a club coming into finals. It'll mould who they are as a club coming into finals. They're two games in front of Moama and you can probably say that they can afford to lose the two games. I mean they're sitting on 31% in front. It's going to take a lot for Moama to gain that 31% and gain it on Rumble, even if Rumble lost two games.

Speaker 1:

But having that major injury to Jess Bamblett, who's pinnacle in that defensive circle her and Tiana I've said it before they're probably the two best defenders in the league at the moment and to have her go down with a serious ankle, how she deals with that over the next week or so, as I said, she won't play against Echuca United, so it'll give Tash Bamber a bit of a heads up. Now I'm not sure whether Tash Bamber will qualify for finals because I think she played last week and this week. So she, like you know, she might, because there's four more games. So maybe, maybe that'll be ideal because it sort of gives, yeah, tiana steel and just bamble a bit of a bit of a breather. Um, but yeah, that, that, this, this, probably this game against the Chuk United will. It's probably going to be a learning thing for Tiana Steele and Tass Bamblett. So they're going to have to learn each other's ways and how they work things out Because, as I said, jess Bamblett and Tiana Steele have been, yeah, phenomenal in that defensive circle.

Speaker 1:

So it's really, really going to be a trial and error, I guess, this week because, as I said, they've got a three-game bracket that will define where they are for the rest of the year. I mean, their ideal thing is to stay undefeated, but you're going to get injuries, injuries, you're going to have things happen and and, and it's how you deal with it and that's how rumble are going to deal with it over the next four weeks. Um, you know they've had some, uh, adversities happen to them in the last, yeah, over the last two weeks. So, and they've come through with that. It's just a matter on how they come about it in the last four weeks, how the maturity and how Tiana Steele grows, knowing that she's probably going to have to lead that defensive circle now because Jess Bamlett's gone down. It just might be a matter of Jess Bamlett just really really growing, resting that ankle and you know, and just really getting it set. But you know, ankles are not a good thing and, yeah, you know, when you go down with an ankle, it seems they want to take a long time to heal. So it's going to be an interesting yeah, interesting four weeks coming in finals for Rumbler. I mean I don't think they'll lose top position.

Speaker 1:

But in saying that, denny have been absolutely playing some good netball. So if you look at it, the weekend just gone, well, they only lost to Moema by eight goals. They only lost to Moama by eight goals. And Moama you know a class side A week before. Who did Danny play? They played Nathalia and they beat them by 10 goals. So they're on that cusp of being very good. I don't think they're back to where they were two years ago or even last year or whatever, but you know they are a danger game. Tongala on the weekend, it seems that they've found their strap. So, yeah, they actually demolished Numerica 72-27. So that's another game that Rumble R has got to play and, as I said, they've got to play Moema as well. So they really solidifies what they do this weekend against Chuky United.

Speaker 1:

You know Jess Bamblett yeah, the poor girl. She's gone through the ring over the last two weeks losing her mum, losing her nan, and then doing an ankle in the game against Moala. So, yeah, her resilience is going to be tested. The team's resilience is going to be tested. Uh, the team's resilience is going to be tested. Uh, team leadership for Rambalara will be tested as well, and and how they mature and their maturity, um, you know, the feedback was that they didn't really connect on the weekend. Um, not real sure how they were playing. Yeah, missing Tiana Steele in that defensive circle, a bit stressed on whether she was actually going to be coming back. So they're really this four-week bracket will test the fortitude of Rumballara and how they get into finals.

Speaker 1:

Now, I mean, this could really really you know, this is probably, yeah, this could be a danger thing for other clubs, especially in the finals, because this could really really solidify that family feel within Rumballara. You know that they band together, they get together and they, you know they become sisters and really work through this. You know that they band together, they get together and they become sisters and really work through this. As I said, they've had some diversities and adversities, I should say, through the last two weeks. So it is going to be a very, very interesting time in the next four weeks.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, chuky United this week, and then they've got um congola oh sorry, denny moema and then tongala, um, you know, possibly just bamblet out for one week, maybe two, um, which, yeah, as I said, uh, tash bamblet's gonna have to step up parent town, are gonna have to work, work some things out. But, um, but yeah, the game on the weekend, as I said, I really you know the feedback I got they were very disconnected. Um, yeah, they were, they managed to win, but yeah, it's not the greatest thing. But you know, fair, fair, the conditions were a bit shit on the weekend as well. So, going forward, rumbler got a bit of a fight on their hands and, yeah, we, we, two, three weeks ago, four weeks ago, you would turn around and say, well, shit, you know, they've got this sewn up. Um, now you get injuries, you get a few things going on. Um, yeah, you sort of you sort of start to think, well, well, maybe, you know, I mean, probably the best thing that's happened is they're still winning games. While they're still winning games, yeah, things are moving along nicely for them. It's just a matter of you know whether they can keep on going. So that is my review on, as I said, sorry that it's not as long and it's not in depth, but I wasn't at the game, I was only just getting things secondhand.

Speaker 1:

But the biggest news to come out of Rumblara A-grade netball is the injury to Jesse Bamblett going down with an ankle, how that looks in their structure going forward, coming into finals. With only four weeks to go before finals start, who knows? They do have Tass Bamblett, who knows how to defend. She's a very good defender. Yeah, we'll definitely see. Yeah, tiana Steele's going to have to learn how to be a little bit more mature in that defensive end because she's going to have to lead. But in saying that, that's something that they said that they missed on the weekend was her leadership and her voice on that court. So it's going to be interesting. It'll be worth seeing how it pans out in the next four weeks.

Speaker 1:

But I'll do a preview of the game against the Chukchi United later on in the week. But that is me. Enough said talking about netball, a man talking about netball getting criticized for it. But have a great weekend. Big news out of Rumbler Jessie Bamlett, yeah, going down with an ankle. Hopefully she can bounce back. It just means a different sort of connection in that defensive circle this weekend, coming with Tash Bamlett and Chana Steele. But that is all I've got. I'll do the preview Wednesday or Thursday on the game next week. But, yeah, a massive four weeks coming up for the Rambalara Football Netball Club's A-grade side and their quest to try and win a premiership, and we'll be following it. We'll discuss things and maybe have some interviews, who knows? But anyway, that is me. Nuff said have a great weekend, have a safe week. I'm out, bye.
