The Abduction of Ilene Misheloff

An accomplished youth figure skater is able to leave school early to get to skating practice. She takes her usual walk home to get ready but never makes it to home or practice. An uptick of abductions in this California region leaves police questioning who could be responsible for her disappearance. To this day, that question remains unknown.
 
I’m Megan. I’m a millennial and I grew up watching Unsolved Mysteries while being taught about Stranger Danger and the Kidnapper Van trope.  As I’ve gotten older, I hear more of my peers romanticize our childhood past. We talk about the dangers in the world today and reminisce about the times we were kids and rode our bikes until it was time to come back for dinner. But – some people didn’t come home. So I ask -  was it really that safe? Were there crimes that were easier to get away with when everyone didn’t have a doorbell camera? What circumstances would be different if people had access to a cell phone? Join me each episode as I look into cases from the past and explore the illusion of safety from that time, while bringing attention to cases that are still looking for answers.
