You are safe. Safety has many elements to consider. Safety goes well beyond a roof over your head. It includes physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and financial well-being. Our attempt to "shake it off" and move on tends to minimize the impact of not being safe in our experiences. Unmet needs become wounds. Those wounds imprint in our bodes and become chronic illness, depression, anxiety, lack of trust, and an underlying chronic sense of alertness.
Maslow's hierarchy teaches us that we can't progress in our spiritual or intellectual journey if we don't feel safe. Staying in a constant state of survival doesn't allow us to grow.
Using the ABC's (Awareness, Body Barometer, Choice) of somatic healing we can recognize when we no longer feel safe and begin to ask what is needed to create safety.
