Marriage Minutes with Jr & Carlee
Marriage on a Mission - part 2 - Episode 26
On today's podcast we dig a little deeper talking about our vision retreat and how we can fulfill what God is calling us to do as a couple. We highlight the fact that we need to be mindful of our own shortcomings, talk about ideal getaway times and explore how each retreat can look different depending on the stage of life you are in. We lay some ground rules for the retreat and encourage couples to pray, do devotions and have talk times on the regular. Here's the handout we created. If you'd like a more printer-friendly version, e-mail us at helpmymarriage7@gmail.com and we'll send you a pdf copy.
Marriage on a Mission
A Guidebook for Your Vision Retreat
Why does our marriage need a mission? Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision the people perish…”. You have a purpose. Your marriage has a purpose. What is God’s purpose for your marriage?
We want you to pray, think and meditate on God’s word and what He is teaching you. We don’t want this to be an exercise that you just are checking boxes. This should be an exercise that helps you grow and flourish and exercises your spiritual muscles but grows you both closer to God and each other.
Here are some examples: Some are called to preach and teach; some are called to be encouragers (this could mean checking on people who are sick, taking meals, sending cards), some are called to use their talents musically, artistically or mechanically. Ultimately our goal is to glorify God, raise our kids to know and serve Him. You may be called to be a stay at home parent who homeschools and supports your family at home, or you may be called to glorify God in your workplace as a shining light in the darkness. Pray and discuss what you feel called to:
What are your talents and abilities?
How are you using them to glorify God and build the kingdom?
What ways do you serve together? For example not only do we serve our church and our marriage ministry. We also set mini goals and take on projects to serve like Operation Christmas Child, Compassion International, Samaritan’s Purse. We make homeless bags to hand out that includes the gospel, we pass out candy bags for different holidays including the gospel. We fill the Little Libraries with books, Bibles and Bible tracts, we mentor couples. Find new ways to serve and fulfill the Great Commission.
What ways are you serving together? List some:
Are there things you’d like to implement that you’re not already doing?
When we come together and realize that our unions are more than just for the temporal (this world), we begin to understand that we can make a kingdom difference. Matthew 6:33 is our vision/mission verse. When we are making decisions, we filter them through that

Becoming a Christian is as easy as A-B-C
Admit that you're a sinner (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23)
Believe - Jesus died for our sins & He is the ONLY way to be saved(John 3:16; John 14:6; Romans 5:8)
Confess - That Jesus is LORD (Romans 10:13)
