Morning by Morning, September 11 - God our Strength and “Strong Tower”

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are my Fortress of Strength and the Rock of my salvation (Psalm 18:1). I look to You and wait for Your leading to begin my day grounded in You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...

On this day  of “9-11”, our nation remembers the day of September 11, 2001 when we all watched in horror as the towers of the World Trade Center fell in New York, when a plane slammed into our Pentagon like a missile, when a plane piloted by fanatical terrorists was forced to crash into an empty field in Pennsylvania because brave Americans rose up in rebellion against the wicked plans of evil men that ominous day with the sacrifice of their lives.

Our towers fell. Our sense of security was shattered. Yet You are the God who redeems all things , who causes even wicked and evil things to work together for good if we turn our hearts to You (Romans 8:28). And just as our nation humbled our heart before You that day in our grief and sorrow, in our shock and confusion, in humility and prayer, may we turn our hearts to You again today.

As we remember that day, may we remember You. For You are our Strong Tower. “The name of the Lord is a Strong Tower. The righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

We need You now more than ever. So I join with all those across our land who humble their hearts before You to call upon Your name for Your mercy and grace, who embrace the Promises of Your Word: If we seek You with all our hearts, we will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). If we draw near to You, You will draw near to us (James 4:8). If we humble ourselves in Your sight, You will lift us up (James 4:10). Righteousness is what exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34), so let Your righteousness be found in our hearts again as we turn to You alone as our Fortress, our Rock, our Strength and Strong Tower. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Written and sent out from the morning prayer time of Tommy Hays each day.

God bless you and may you have a great day!
