Morning by Morning, October 2, 2024 - We Stand in Awe of our God Who is the “Wall of Fire” Around Jerusalem
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Ever-faithful One, Never-failing One, You are our Rock and Refuge--for me and for all who call on Your name to be saved, safe, and secure in You (Psalm 18:1-3; Acts 2:21) . ...
Yesterday on Tuesday October 1, 2024, the regime of Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles toward the major cities of Israel in what would have devasted major population centers of innocent lives. We stand in shock. And at the same time, we stand in awe of You and Your hand of protection. As I understand from the current reports, there were zero casualties from this overwhelming barrage of missiles. This Scripture came immediately to mind as the dust settled and the people of Israel were released to come out from their bomb shelters:
“‘For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a Wall of Fire all around (Jerusalem), and I will be the Glory in her midst’” (Zechariah 2:5).
The weapons Israel deployed for her defense -- the Iron Dome, the David’s Sling, the Arrow -- along with intercepting missiles of two American Navy destroyers -- were the physical means of Your supernatural protection. These natural weapons of warfare defense, as ingenious and effective as they were, would have fallen far short of such an overwhelming assault with such catastrophic intent of destruction apart from You and Your hand over the people of that nation. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).
We stand in awe of You. You are the “Wall of Fire” around her. You are the “Glory” of God within her. May the eyes of the world see what You have done. May the hearts of the world be open to receive the One who has done this.
On the Biblical Calendar marking the seasons and festivals of Scripture which carry prophetic significance for all generations, tonight at sundown begins the Ten Days of Awe. These days of introspection, repentance, and returning to You in faith mark the ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:24-34). “Be in awe and know that I Am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted throughout the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
“Wall of Fire,” God of “Glory,” I stand in awe of You. And at the same time, I pray as never before “In Jesus’ name, I pray as You have commanded “for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6) and for all the people of that land and this world to know the One who is our Peace (Isaiah 9:6; Ephesians 2:14). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
