Speaker 2:All right, hello, and welcome everybody to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Do you like a clean house? What's one of the most important items? You have to have to have a clean house, a vacuum. Well, today I have the pleasure of introducing your neighbor who might be able to hook us up, ms Beth Oaks, with Oreck Clean Home Center in Johnson City. Beth, welcome to the call.
Speaker 3:Hello Skip, how are you?
Speaker 2:I'm doing just fine. How are you doing?
Speaker 3:We're doing good. Awesome, I'm so glad that you contacted us and we're glad to share our knowledge of vacuums and air purifiers and any questions the viewers may have.
Speaker 2:Very good, very good. Well, I know I'm excited to learn all about you and your business. So if you don't mind, why don't you just start out by telling us a little bit about your company?
Speaker 3:Well, as many of you know, oreck has been in business for many years, 60 plus years. However, in Johnson City this location has been here close to 27, 28 years, which is unheard of for a small business. That's longevity, and that just goes to show you how good Oric vacuums are and people love them because they're lightweight. They do a good job. We are a full service center so you can bring your vacuum in. It doesn't even have to be an Oric. We sell other brands as well. We sell Mila, ricard. But we have people bring in Dysons, all sorts of different vacuums, bissells, hoovers to us and we're glad to go through them, diagnose them and repair them and get them back working to the consumer.
Speaker 2:Wow, that's interesting. I didn't realize that I might actually have one. I need to bring you actually.
Speaker 3:Come see us.
Speaker 2:And it's not an Auric but, I've had it for a really long time and I've tried to replace belts myself, but you know I'm not a mechanic at all, so especially when it comes to backing- and I'm afraid I'm going to take it apart and won't be able to get it back together.
Speaker 3:Well, a lot of times people don't realize that. You know vacuums need to be serviced. You know it's one of the few appliances household appliances that actually have dirt blowing all around them all the time. So it's good to get them cleaned, serviced, so they can do the job for you.
Speaker 2:Very good. Well Beth, how did you get started in this business?
Speaker 3:I simply walked in on it. I literally walked in, talked to somebody I was a shopper and began talking to someone and they said you need to come work for me, and so I started working here. And then, in 2015, the owner was he was an older gentleman and he was, and he offered to sell the stores that he had. And so in 2015, I purchased the store and, of course, april of next year will be our 10 year anniversary, which I'm real excited about.
Speaker 2:Congratulations for that 10 years is like you said 28 years is a really long time for a small business. So that says a lot about the quality of what you do. What's? If there could be one thing that you would like for our listeners to remember about the Oric Clean Home Center, what would that be?
Speaker 3:That we're a physical store that you can bring your vacuum in anytime. We're open Monday through Friday 10 to 530. We're open Saturday 10 to 1. We sell other things besides vacuums. We do sell air purifiers. We are a Lambergé dealer, which is a home fragrance product which many people use. We're just a wide range of different products and a lot of things that we don't. If we don't have what you need part-wise for your vacuum, because there's no way we could carry every hose, every part for each vacuum in our store. But we can do our very best to to order it and get it here for you.
Speaker 2:Wow, well, that's a lot actually, and as far as repairs go, you said that it really didn't matter what the brand is.
Speaker 3:It really doesn't matter, we will do our best to service it. I mean, there are some, believe it or not, there was a brand not too long ago that I'd never heard of, and when you bring them in, you know we will look. Sometimes parts are not available for certain models that you get, and so we can't, of course, make a part, but sometimes our tech can do things to make it work for you, and and we look, we look forward to that challenge he does. So don't think anything is too little or too much we can. You know we will do our best to work with you and find a solution very good now, and this is just a question I have personally.
Speaker 2:but you know, oric has always been known as top quality products and I know my grandmother kept the same vacuum cleaner for like 30 something, almost 40 years and the thing still worked. Do you guys work on many? You know old Oric's.
Speaker 3:Every day.
Speaker 2:Every day, really.
Speaker 3:We had a vacuum. Now we did have a vacuum the other day that was 24 years old and they decided to retire it and purchase a new one. There's times when we have service vacuums that are 30, 40 years old and the motors and the Oryx are really good. They're long lasting. Matter of fact, they used to have a vacuum that they sold with 21 year warranty on the motor.
Speaker 3:And it had 21 years of free service on tune-ups. Most Oryx that you buy, well, all residential orcs, come with free tune ups and that's to encourage you to bring it in, get it serviced, and it allows the vacuum to do its job and, to you know, work a long time, and that's what we want.
Speaker 2:Now that's pretty impressive. A 21 year warranty, man. That's kind of unheard of these days especially Well, how can our listeners learn more about your clean home center, beth?
Speaker 3:Well, they're welcome to come in. Our store is located at 3211 People Street, Suite 62. We're just a few doors down from Old Navy. We're in the shopping center with Amigos and Natural Foods Store. They're welcome. We had demos, so they're welcome to come in, put the vacuum in their hand and try it and they can bring a sample of their carpet and that, you know, allows you to see if that's something, especially people who have thick pile carpet. Or, you know, even if you just have a hardwood floors, Mila is rated the highest vacuum for hardwoods. And, of course, allergies and things like that.
Speaker 2:Wow, Well, you convinced me. I'm going to be showing up at your door with my and I can't even tell you the brand, but it's probably a 15-year-old vacuum cleaner.
Speaker 3:Well, come on down.
Speaker 2:I will be coming to see you. Well, Beth, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you being on the show.
