Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.

Speaker 2:

All right, welcome everybody to the Good Neighbor Podcast. If you're like me, you have a great appreciation for a good massage. If you have back pain, if you're having issues with stress, you're in luck today because we have. I have the pleasure of introducing your neighbor, Ms Alicia Maynor, who is the owner of M2 Massage. So, Alicia, welcome to the show.

Speaker 3:

Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2:

Well, we are absolutely thrilled to have you, and I'm really excited about massages here, so I'm sure our listeners are also excited to learn about you and your company. So, if you don't mind, why don't you just tell us a little bit about your business?

Speaker 3:

Well, I started up almost two years ago now November will be for sure two years. Well, I started up almost two years ago now November will be for sure two years Basically. One day I just went got a massage with my friend who also works here Her name's Brittany and then I looked at her and I was like, hey, you know we could absolutely do this and she said yes. So then we actually went and signed up for classes that following February, actually up for classes that following February actually, and then six long months of school we finally finished that out. But I've actually wanted to be a massage therapist for probably at least 10 years now have voicemails on my phone from calling to see if, like, I could get into massage school literally 10 years ago, but then finally decided to take a chance and go for it.

Speaker 2:

Very good. Well, so you covered how you got into the business. You were getting a massage and said, hey, we can do this. So I get that. What sort of things? I'm sure you offer a variety of services.

Speaker 3:

Yes, so we can do relaxation, we can do deep pressure, deep tissue, we also do cupping and then we can do heated stones Just pretty much anything that you would need. We could probably do.

Speaker 2:

Very good. Do you also do makeup and that sort uh makeup and that sort of thing Like that, that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3:

Um, I didn't have a girl here that she is an esthetician, so she does like the facials, um, and like the back facials and waxing, and I think she does do makeup. Yes, but if you wanted to check out all of our services, it's online.

Speaker 2:

I don't. I don't wear makeup, but I just you know. I think I saw that on your website that it was available. So are there what are some myths or misconceptions in the massage industry? Is there.

Speaker 3:

I would say the biggest one would be the difference between deep pressure and deep tissue. A lot of people come in and they're like, oh, I want deep tissue. But then whenever we start the deep tissue process they're like jumping off the table because they're not used to that. I guess the pain. But there's a difference between the pressure and the tissue the tissue, like you're getting in between the pressure, and then the tissue. The tissue, like you're you're getting in between the muscles and then getting that. Deeper tissue versus deeper pressure, we're just applying more pressure directly to the muscles, I guess.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 2:

Very good. Wow. Well, I learned something new there. I will remember not to say deep tissue, although I could use that, I'm sure.

Speaker 3:

So outside of work, alicia. What do you do for fun? Well, honestly, I still work a full-time job at my normal job, and then in the evenings, after I get off from the normal job, I do massage, and then on the weekends, when I'm not at my normal job, I massage. So I, honestly, don't really do a lot besides work, and then work again, as for right now. Hopefully that changes in the future.

Speaker 2:

Well, and it sounds like you enjoy massages and giving massages as well. So that's you know. At least you're spending time of your work and doing something you enjoy.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. It is definitely one of my favorite things to do.

Speaker 2:

Great, so let's change gears for just a second. Can you describe a hardship or life challenge that you overcame and and it made you stronger?

Speaker 3:

anything come to mind um, I would probably say four years ago my mom died. Um. I'm sorry so that to me being it's okay um being almost 30 and like having your mom died. I know a lot of people have parents that have passed away before then, but you know, for everybody it's okay Um being almost 30 and like having your mom die, and I know a lot of people have parents that have passed away before then, but you know, for everybody it's different, um. So I guess that's kind of like the hardship that I have in my life, uh, that my mom died at a young age. Um, and then just getting over that and we're not really over it but like trying to work through that. Um. And I guess that's another reason that I like massage is because, like, I feel like each person is um, I'm helping heal that person so I can help somebody else, even though I'm hurting and healing at the same time, if that makes sense.

Speaker 2:

Yes, absolutely, Absolutely Makes sense Um.

Speaker 3:

Yes, absolutely, absolutely, makes sense If you could think of one thing two years. But again, it's never about the money. For us we try to make every massage about that individual. We want to make sure that that individual's needs are being met as far as, like you know, you come in with a shoulder issue, you come in with hip pain, sciatic back pain, lower back pain, like we want to focus and make sure it's not just a cookie cutter massage. So I feel like a lot of bigger companies try to, you know, get people in, get people out. But I mean, I really want M2 to stay focused on, like, each individual person and making sure that person is getting what they need from massage and not just getting them in and getting them out, if that makes sense.

Speaker 2:

It does. It does so like custom massage for that person with their specific issues. I think that's great, all right. Well, how can our listeners learn more? You'd mentioned your website earlier, but how can they learn more about M2 Massage?

Speaker 3:

Well, we have a website and it has like a little bio about each of the therapists that work here and our esthetician, and that's at m2massagenet and then on there. If they wanted to book, they can book through there as well.

Speaker 2:

That was my next question, and I'm sure you're on social media as well, probably.

Speaker 3:

Yes, I have an M2 massage on Facebook. I don't think I have it connected to Instagram yet, but for sure it's on Facebook.

Speaker 2:

On Facebook, very good. Well, alicia, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you being here. I know you know running a business, especially when you have two jobs, is that your time is precious. So I don't want to take too much of it but appreciate the time you did give us and I want to thank you for being on our show and I only wish you and M2 Massage all the best moving forward.

Speaker 3:

I appreciate that very much.

Speaker 2:

All right, we'll have you back.
