Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Skip Monty.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello everyone, and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast of the Tri-Cities and to 2024. We've got an incredibly special guest with us here today and I'm very interested in learning more about her and her business. And I'm sure you'll feel the same, because today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, ms Amanda Bush, who is the Community Relations Manager at Everlong of Johnson City. Amanda, welcome to the show.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, glad to be here.

Speaker 2:

Well, we're thrilled to have you and, like I said, I'm sure our listeners, like me, are all excited to learn about you and Everlawn. I checked out the website and it looks like a beautiful facility, so why don't you kick us off by just telling us a little bit about Everlawn?

Speaker 3:

Sure, Thank you for that. We are a 55 plus luxury independent living, so we have no form of health care in our community, but we love to have seniors of all walks of life coming in and we provide them with two meals a day. They'll come in, clean your apartments. They'll even do your linens for you, wash your towels. Everything is in your apartment. So you have a full kitchen. You have a laundry area in your rooms, walk-in closets, kind of a live in a little life of luxury.

Speaker 3:

You can come out into the common areas where we have lots of events, lots of outings, programs going on all the time, several lunch and learns a month, educational programs you name it. We're going to try to do it. I have a big passion for making sure everyone stays as active as they'd like to be. We have a concierge service. That's also included. So they'll take you to and from your doctor appointments. They'll take you to and from your doctor appointments. They'll take you grocery shopping. They drop you off at the front. They'll. You call us, we pick you back up. You don't have to worry about getting out in the snow. We'll go out, make sure that you can get back safely. You know anything that we can do to make your life a little bit easier is our goal. You got a little maintenance. That's also included. So if you have a little leaky fridge or anything, we'll fix that for you.

Speaker 2:

And kind of hang out and have a good time with your neighbors. Wow, sounds incredible, although I'm a little depressed that I qualify. I'm a 57. I've never thought about I should go to independent living, but it sounds amazing though. So they're like condos or apartments.

Speaker 3:

More like apartments.

Speaker 2:

So different? Can you get multiple like? Are they all one bedroom?

Speaker 3:

Yes, so we have 81 apartments but three different styles, so you can do a smaller one, which would be a studio. We have a one bedroom and then we have a two bedroom as well.

Speaker 2:

Two bedrooms.

Speaker 3:

Several different. You know styles too, that you can have a porch, you can have a Julia balcony. You know kind of, if you prefer the beautiful mountain views that we have, then you can kind of go for that. Whatever your preference is, we can gear it towards.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. It sounds incredible actually. Amanda, how did, how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

Well, I've been working with seniors in assisted living and independent living for going on 10 years, so I actually used to do the life enrichment part. So doing the events and activities and planning lots of parties and socials for everyone is a big thing for me. I really like to make sure everyone's having a good time where they're at, everyone's enjoying life, and you know, whatever they need, that I'm here to do.

Speaker 2:

Very good. So what are some myths or misconceptions in the independent living world industry?

Speaker 3:

Oh gosh. Well, in our area you don't have a lot of independents to choose from. So kind of understanding what independent living is and making sure that we you know we are not assisted living, so we have no form of health care, we don't have nursing on staff or anything like that. But you do have a medical alert pendant so we give you that. Then you know if you had an emergency, push it or we come running and also calls 911 as well.

Speaker 3:

But you have to be able to do all of your activities of daily living. You know we want to make sure everyone is safe in the environment that they choose. So making sure that you know you have all of your activities would be eating, dressing, grooming and toileting. If you can do all those on your own, then you qualify for independent living. But we also want you to age in place here. So if we notice you have like a decline or anything like that, then we're going to step in, try to figure out if we need to get a home health aid in there to help you a little bit so you can stay here as long as possible. And that's our goal is aging in place.

Speaker 2:

Very cool. Well, change the subject a little bit, Amanda. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Well, I actually I have a little girl and I've been married for six years and really enjoy doing anything that I can with them and taming my wild little, my wild little girl. She's a lot of fun and we like to go to the mountains and ride side to sides and hang out with my family as well, as is a big part of me. So making sure I bring family in to our community and give that aspect is a big thing too. My daughter was actually raised in here for the first year, so she got to know the residents, they got to know her and really enjoyed that, and she likes to come for a little visit every once in a while.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'll bet, I'll bet, and I'll bet the residents just absolutely eat it up. I would think.

Speaker 3:

Oh, it's so much fun.

Speaker 2:

And how old is she?

Speaker 3:

Two and a half, oh, wow.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, wow. So yeah, they definitely like that Well that's an awesome answer. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3:

She hits the floor running.

Speaker 2:

Hits the floor running. It's the floor running. Oh yeah, I'm very familiar with that. I have five kids, so I was going to say that was a really good answer. Most guys that I talk to business owners when I interview them and I was like what do you?

Speaker 2:

do for fun, and you know they always throw in. You know, oh, you know, I like to fish, like to hunt, I like to run, I like to hike, oh, and spend time with my family. I'm like that's the right answer, especially if your wife's going to watch. But you were genuine, so good answer. So if you could think of one thing that you would like our listeners to remember about Everlong, what would that be?

Speaker 3:

Oh gosh we are just a really enjoyable time with our team. We have a great group of hardworking team members that really have a passion for seniors and a love for caring. We really strive to do our best, go above and beyond and really enjoy each day to the fullest.

Speaker 2:

That's a good thing to remember, absolutely. And if someone watching listening decides that they'd like to learn more about Everlawn and what that's all about, how would they do that?
