What happens when baseball fans and epic brawls collide? This week, we bring you a spirited and hilarious episode of Two Guys Talking Baseball, straight from Three Crows Studio in Dandridge, Tennessee. We kickstart with our fan-favorite segment, "Who You Reppin'," where Brian proudly showcases his Cubs Away jersey from the 2016 World Series and sparks a fun debate with his contentious 4th of July Smokies hat. We chat about the incredible journey of Chris Bryant, from his World Series heroics with the Cubs to his current role with the Rockies, blending humor and heartfelt stories about baseball's emotional ties and rivalries.

Next, we recount the wild brawl between the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels on June 26th, which led to 12 suspensions. We can't help but laugh at the unfortunate incident involving Angels pitcher Archie Bradley fracturing his elbow in the chaos, as we explore the meaning of "Donnybrook" and share a heartwarming story about a Mariners fan from Arkansas who sent a pizza to Jesse Winker. The fun continues as we revisit some of baseball's most iconic brawls, including Nolan Ryan's legendary headlock on Robin Ventura and the humorous speculation about Ryan's cattle-wrangling skills contributing to his wrestling-like moves on the field.

We wrap up the episode by diving into baseball player controversies and our top five favorite MLB uniforms. From Zach Greinke's return to the Royals and a surprising fan-related incident to our appreciation for the unique designs of various team uniforms, this segment will keep you entertained and nostalgic. Join us as we highlight the sartorial splendor of the Blue Jays' full blue alternates, the Orioles' throwback orange jerseys, and the Rockies' distinctive purple and silver look. Speaker 1:

We are back. Welcome inside Three Crows Studio, Dandridge, Tennessee, for this week's exciting episode of Two Guys Talking Baseball. My name, of course, is Dallas Danger and I'm joined as always by my friend and colleague, Brian Logan. Brian, say your shtick.

Speaker 2:

It's a great week for baseball. I can't believe we're back. I'm excited to be back and what a week it was. I'm so excited.

Speaker 1:

It was actually an exciting two weeks of baseball. I was a little under the weather we'll call it last week and just decided to call in. I thought it had been a long time.

Speaker 2:

It seemed like a long time.

Speaker 1:

It feels like a lot longer than two weeks even, but we're here, we're back, we're ready. We have so, so much to talk about, a lot to get to, a lot of information jam-packed into this episode. So we're going to try to not get overwhelmed, but here we are, man, yeah. So let's kick it off. Let's get right to the segment we do every week and we well, when we're here every week that we call who you Reppin', and what we do for who you Reppin' is show off our jerseys, shirts, hats, et cetera, et cetera, and just talk about the origins of our attire. You know where we got it, what we're dealing with week to week, and we've always got some cool stories about where we get our stuff. So, brian, you are just looking stately.

Speaker 2:

Well, thank you. I have one of my favorite jerseys. It's the Cubs Away from the World Series, from the 2016 World Series. It's one of my favorite jerseys and my brand-new favorite hat. My hat is the 4th of July Smokies hat and I love it. I mean, I can't get enough of these 4th of July hats.

Speaker 1:

Those hats are a crime against humanity. Those hats um are the reason for all the bad things in the world oh, I mean everything.

Speaker 2:

They're terrible, including russia terrible. Oh wow, america, man, america. You Including Russia? Terrible. Oh wow, america, man, america.

Speaker 1:

You know, what's funny is last night I was watching some television from the 1990s a simpler time for you kids out there who weren't around for the 90s, a much simpler time and there was someone in the crowd of this event I was watching from the 1990s that was wearing a new england patriots cap and it looked eerily similar to these july 4th hats and it really made me want to die um, oh man.

Speaker 2:

I can't get enough of these fourth of july hats.

Speaker 1:

I wish I could collect them all I'll be honest, I can't believe so many people like them. Like, it makes sense that they're kind of polarizing. It definitely makes sense that there's a lot of people that are in the same boat as me, because they're a monstrosity. But the fact that so many people are just like all about them is what's kind of baffling me. Like you know, I've seen so many of them in the, in the stands, like even since the fourth, like last night's games, you know the fifth as we're recording. You know I there was, so there were so many people wearing them at the game and I just it.

Speaker 2:

It baffles me, it baffles the mind well, it's a high quality item, man, I mean, you gotta. You gotta rep america, you gotta rep the uh team. I mean, what better than the stars and stripes? Brother, do you gotta though?

Speaker 1:

well, yeah, I mean again. I mean, I guess it's fine if that's your prerogative, but I'm going to tell you how ugly your hat is, you know.

Speaker 2:

Well, my hat speaks very highly of you.

Speaker 1:

So pull up your big boy pants and deal with it. Buttercup, buttercup, but no, I mean I love the blue Cubs alternates. Always have Just a cool jersey, folks. He is not showing you who's on the back of that jersey right, because we don't really talk about him anymore right, right, we don't he.

Speaker 2:

He had to move on to uh, colorado. We don't discuss him anymore.

Speaker 1:

You know, I will say this uh, jose iglesias, the shortstop for the rockies. In 60 games this year against everybody else, he has hit zero home runs, not a one. In seven games I mean in less than seven games against the Dodgers he's hit two home runs. So when the Rockies showed up to Dodger Stadium this week for a series and the first night I saw that Chris Bryant's home run number this year was zero, I knew he was going to do it. I knew he was going to hit his first one against us.

Speaker 2:

I just knew it, and he did.

Speaker 1:

It was meaningless, which is good. But yeah, I was a little peeved about that, but I don't have the same vigor towards Chris Bryant that you do.

Speaker 2:

Well, we've went into it, We've been over it. I mean, he just let me down. But now I love the jersey. You know, ashley got me this jersey when they won the series and he was definitely a part of that team, contributed to that team, made that team special. So he, he was a big part of it, a huge part, huge part of it national league mvp. Now, after that it went all to hell, but uh, you know, I mean for the time being of 2016, that's the way I like to remember him.

Speaker 1:

Yeah for sure I think that's the way to go. 2016,. That's the way I like to remember him. Yeah, for sure, I think that's the way to go. I think that's definitely the right mentality to have in that situation. But yeah, you look, I don't know, man, I just can't get over that hat. I'm trying to be nice and I can't. I can't muster it. So I figured I'd wear like a kind of nice shirt today. I don't know why, I just felt like it. But my hat this week is from the Elizabethton River Riders and I'm proud that I didn't say Rough Riders, because I slip up and call them the Rough Riders a lot, but they're the River Riders.

Speaker 1:

They're, of course, in the Appalachian league and elizabethan is. I mean, here's the crazy thing the ballpark in elizabethan is only like 10 minutes away from the ballpark in johnson city, where I go constantly. You know, over the last I don't know four years, I've probably been to 25 30 games there, if not more right, and I've probably been to 25, 30 games there, if not more, right. And I'd never been to Elizabethan until a few weeks ago. I guess we decided to go check it out. It was just one that I wanted to check off this year because it was an easy one, not expensive. Appy League is really affordable, really close by, so there's not, you know, the stress of traveling to get to a ballpark easy one to knock out. So I said, all right, let's do it this year. Let's let's get elizabethan on the list and I had heard a lot of negative things about the ballpark. But boydd Sports is, I believe they're at least controlling the team in Elizabethan now. So they worked wonders in Johnson City. They're doing cool things other places too.

Speaker 1:

So I knew that there would be some optimism and some energy at the ballpark and I was not wrong. I was definitely right about that, because we went and saw a lot of the neat things they're doing there. That sort of differentiate them a little bit and they're trying really hard, I guess is what I'm getting at. So we had a great time. There were quite a few people sitting around us that very clearly were there. A lot Maybe were even season ticket holders that were super helpful about. You know just different quirks of that ballpark and you know things to look out for and stuff like that Very, very hospitable group of people and we just had a really good time and I think it's a ballpark that I will be visiting again soon. Definitely had a very good time, brian. We got to get you to the Tri-Cities.

Speaker 2:

I know I need to do that. I absolutely need to do that. I need to add those hats to my collection and I need to see this team I mean you sold them to me before need to add those hats to my collection and I need to see this team. I mean, they're you. Just you sold them to me before, but you really sold them to me just now. Yeah, well, we gotta go.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know, johnson city is amazing. Uh, kingsport's pretty cool too, right, I like that ballpark a lot. And now elizabeth then kind of gets added to that mix right right there within like a 30 mile radius, right? So yeah, man, we got to get you, we got to get you down to the tri-cities and um.

Speaker 2:

Two of my favorite towns. I've wrestled in those towns for most of my career and I need to go watch some games there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, all right. Well, let's take a peek at the lineup for today Only doing three segments this week. If you're a regular viewer or listener, you will note that that is a little different. But I had a fourth segment picked out and I got to researching it and it just felt boring. It did not feel interesting and I don't want to bore you, dear listener or dear viewer, so I just said you know what? I think we got enough to fill some time with these three segments, so we're going to stick with three this week. We're going to start with a Donnybrook, because we saw a pretty substantial benches clearing brawl recently in Major League Baseball, so we're going to look at that. We're also going to look at a couple of other more well-known famous brawls. We're going to talk all about fighting on the baseball diamond and Brian is really excited to talk about physicality.

Speaker 2:

Oh, without a doubt, I'm fired up for this one.

Speaker 1:

Then we're going to do some quick hits. It is a sad, sad day in quick hits. It is a sad, sad day in quick hits. It is a sad, sad day, but we'll get to that in just a little bit. A couple of quick things just to kind of talk about briefly there with quick hits, and then our main event this week is fashion show. No, we are not actually going to have a fashion show. We've already done that. It's called who you Reppin'. We do it every week.

Speaker 1:

But we are going to talk about some of our favorite Major League uniforms. This was an idea I had. I was watching a lot of baseball on like I think it was a Saturday, maybe even a Sunday, and I was seeing a lot of live look-ins and watching some games and it was just a really great uniform day. There were some throwbacks that were really cool, some of the newer City Connects that I like, and I was just like man, this is a great uniform day. So I decided we should have some fun and pick out some of our favorite uniforms from around the big leagues. So that's what we're going to be talking about today. Let's get right into it. June the 26th we saw the Mariners and Angels get into a bit of a scuffle, a kerfuffle, if you will. That led to 12 suspensions. That led to 12 suspensions, obviously managers, coaches, players. But that also included the Angels interpreter, manny Del Campo. So a translator, a guy whose job is literally to translate languages and communicate. He's translating that ass whooping.

Speaker 2:

I guess so, because he got a suspension too somehow.

Speaker 1:

I guess so, because he got a suspension too. Somehow, the Angels manager, phil Nevin, got the stiffest punishment. He got 10-game suspension. Archie Bradley also of the Angels. Now this might be in a season full of blunders. This might be the most 2022 Angels thing that's happened this year. Archie Bradley is trying to get involved in this fight. He falls leaving the dugout and fractures his elbow what an idiot.

Speaker 2:

I mean, this guy's got a pitch for a living, he's got a. He obviously is not a track star to jump over the hurdle there to get out of the dugout and he has to fall on his wrist. It's just horrible. He did not think this through. He was not prepared. He was not a seasoned Donnie Brooker.

Speaker 1:

No, clearly not. You hear stories from former major leaguers about getting involved in these brawls and they find somebody from the other team that they know doesn't want to get involved in it any more than they do. So you can kind of make it look like you're fighting and really you're like, hey man, this is crazy. Yeah, I know, I hope this is over soon. I want to get this game done with Gosh. I wish they'd eject me. But yeah, archie just didn't even make it that far. He just couldn't get out of the dugout.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think what we ought to do is define where Donnybrook comes from to get a general idea of what this confrontation should be. See, this term and I know you're sitting on the edge of your seat dates back to 1825 in Ireland. The city fair, the Donnybrook Fair, if you will, where it would become a well-mannered frivolity for them to get involved in these said arguments. That ended up being called Donnie Brooks. So this comes from a well tradition of getting carried away and fighting. So you know when you're getting ready to fight in major leagues. You got to be ready, you got to get out there and you got to get it done and you got to be quick.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I decided as soon as you started talking to fact check what you were saying, and it looks like you were mostly correct. Oh, of course I am. It's actually from the name of a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. Right right, that was famous for an annual fair, and nothing says a fight's going to break out like an annual fair in Ireland, Exactly exactly says a fight's going to break out like an annual fair in Ireland.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, exactly. So. Donnybrook is very much the correct term for a good brawl in Major League Baseball, but you've got to be ready for these brawls. That's what I'm saying. Some of these guys were. It was over before it started and the other guy was happy. You know that it was Right. You know these guys got happy. You know that it was Right. You know these guys got to get in there and get it done and you know the Angels didn't do that.

Speaker 1:

No, I'm afraid you're right, but I think the coolest story coming out of this, though, was from the other side, mariners jesse winker, who, if you're familiar with at all, is a guy that thinks very highly of himself, not necessarily in the obnoxious way, he's just a guy that's got some swag, he's got some drip to him, you know, and he, you know, he's involved in sort of the outset of this whole thing. Obviously, he gets ejected. Well, there is a fan named Sophie. In Arkansas. She grew up in Seattle.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, Sophie from Arkansas, I know all about her.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this is such a cool story. So Sophie grew up in Seattle, lives in Arkansas now obviously was watching the game because she's a big Mariners fan and, like a lot of other people that were watching the game but also that were covering the game, broadcasting the game, she was trying to figure out who had been ejected, what exactly the fallout was, at least in the immediate. And she says that one of the announcers made a comment along the lines of well, I hope Jesse Winker's enjoying a beer back in the clubhouse, and it was like this light bulb went off in her head. So she decides to send Jesse Winker of the Seattle Mariners a pizza from Arkansas to to the game in Anaheim, california. She claimed that she really didn't think the pizza would ever get to him, just sort of oh, this would be a funny joke for me. But she places the order. She finds somewhere that she thinks might be local, or at least not a big national chain, and places the order. Only ordered a small pizza because again, she thought I want to keep this affordable because I don't know that the pizza is ever even going to get there. This might just be me entertaining myself, said in the interview I heard basically, worst case scenario.

Speaker 1:

The DoorDash driver gets a free lunch, which she was okay with. So, lo and behold, they make the pizza. The Dasher picks it up and texts her, as these delivery drivers are known to do. Hey, I've picked up your pizza. I'll let you know when I get to the address. And she had put in the instructions the address for Angel Stadium and that it should be dropped off at the visitor ballpark for Jesse Winker. So she takes this opportunity to text the driver back and basically lay out for him the whole situation. This is what I'm doing, this is what I'm trying to accomplish, and as she's messaging with this DoorDash driver, she's taking screen caps, she's putting it all up on Twitter and as she's doing this, it's just going more and more viral because the more she posts and updates, the more people see it, the more it gets out there, until she is communicating with the mariners pr team through the social media and says hey, you know, mariners pr or whatever, the driver's at gate six or whatever, wherever he was.

Speaker 1:

So the pizza ends up getting to Jesse Winker and he ends up reaching out to her and saying hey, you know, that was really funny, that was really cool and the pizza was really good, so thank you. And Sophie got to tell him like hey, if I had realized that it was actually going to get there and that there'd be more of you in the clubhouse because you got ejected, I would have got a bigger pizza to share. So just a really cool story Somebody taking something you know kind of negative and just totally turning it into a positive, like 100%, and you always love to see that sort of mentality about life in general. But you know, just a really I don't know. I thought it was a decent brawl. I saw one or two pretty severe swings thrown, but that sort of begs the question, brian, and I'm anxious to get your opinion on this what in your, your mind, makes a great baseball brawl not a good baseball brawl, but a great baseball brawl well, it's gotta have multiple layers.

Speaker 2:

So you've got the initial hit, which is usually the pitcher and the batter, but then you gotta have the catcher coming up from behind to pull him off. And just as that happens, here comes the third base coach and clocks him. I mean, you got to have layers. The bench is, uh, empty, they're all going at it, and then it calms down and you think it's over and you're all excited, and then it breaks out again, yeah, and then the mascots piling on the mascots piling in the concession stand.

Speaker 1:

Workers are throwing hot dogs at people I was just thinking the same thing, just chucking, yeah, like cans of soda, you know.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that would be great but yeah, it's got to have, it's got to have layers, it's got to build the pressure, like any good fight. It's got to build the pressure, got to let off the steam and then you got to bring it home.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I think that's a good way to look at it, a good way to measure a baseball brawl. So I wanted to look at a couple other pretty memorable brawls and I looked at a lot of lists and you know I could have gotten way more in the weeds on this but I really didn't want. I didn't want to do that, I guess you know, I'll just be honest. So I picked out two relatively recent, both within my lifetime for sure. So these are, you know, really memorable, really well-known.

Speaker 1:

So I'll start with game three of the 2003 ALCS Yankees and Red Sox. You know this is a storied rivalry, a lot of tension any time these teams play. But when you're one step away from the World Series, especially at that point if you're the Red Sox and it's been so long since you've been and even way longer since you've won know tension's running high. So game three Pedro Martinez hits Karim Garcia. The Yankees retaliate and hit Manny Ramirez. That clears the benches and my two favorite things about this brawl. Number one is Pedro just taking Don Zimmer, the Yankees bench coach, who was an old man at this point, and just like hip tossing him.

Speaker 1:

Just like straight to the ground. Yeah, x-factors him, just plants him. 100% Not fucking with you today. Yeah, to the ground you go. Gotta go, old white man. But my other favorite is A little sidestepping trip, yeah. The other thing I love is in the interviews afterwards. Pedro Martinez is still kind of worked up and at one point he just goes who are you, karim Garcia? Who are you Like? Basically calling this guy a no-name, right? You know that he initially beamed with a pitch to kind of start this whole thing. Just a classic, classic brawl. What stuck out? You know, going back and watching that, brian, what stuck out to you about that one?

Speaker 2:

Well, obviously, the trip. I'm familiar with Don Zimmer and he was a Cubs manager for many years, as me, as a kid, my dad's favorite player Loved him. He's been known to have a snort or two before the game and maybe during the game. Allegedly, allegedly, allegedly. So the fact that Don made it from the dugout all the way there is a miracle in itself, yeah. And then he took the trip the head smash or whatever we want to call it and he was down. Down goes, zimmer, down goes.

Speaker 1:

Zimmer.

Speaker 2:

And yeah, so that's what stood out to me, and yeah, so that's what stood out to me. But the look on Manny's face at the end when the camera comes in there, it's like he can't believe it, like he's just astounded and very put off. And you know, like how dare you people do this to me?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, he was definitely not amused at all by any of that.

Speaker 1:

So that's a good one. And I mean I think this next one and this is, you know, the first thing I thought of when we decided to do this segment. It was August 4, 1993, the White Sox visiting, I should say the Rangers, and 46 year old Nolan Ryan Beams, 26 year old Robin Ventura. Ventura did not like that and charged the mound and buddy that wily old Texas farm boy. Nolan Ryan, just grabbed him in a headlock and Ventura was done for, wore him out. Just man, bench is clear. Bo Jackson is looking around like what's wrong with you people? He knows, yeah, bo knows. Bo knows bench is clear in brawls. But I mean to me that's like the most famous, that's the brawl in Major League history.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

Just because of that image of Nolan Ryan's got Robin Ventura in the headlock and he's just pounding him in the top of the head.

Speaker 2:

Well, and did you notice and this is our baseball fans. I'm going to go off topic for just a split second. They may not know what I'm talking about, but our wrestling fans will know. Did you notice it was on the correct side? No, he never noticed. He did it correctly and he had the whole, the whole thing going. It was picture perfect are.

Speaker 1:

Are you accusing the parties involved of staging this brawl?

Speaker 2:

no, I I believe it was a complete shoot, as we like to say. I believe it's completely real. I just think that Nolan Ryan is so good and so technically sound that even when he fights, he wrestles the proper way.

Speaker 1:

Okay, fair enough. I think he just grabbed the first side that he got because he knew there's this young kid charging at me and I'm no spring chicken. I gotta level the playing field and the best way to do that is to completely immobilize robin matura. So just snatches him right up, just expert level, like he was wrangling cattle well, he probably has wrangled some cats, of course he has.

Speaker 2:

I mean, that might be well. I mean, okay, let's again. I'm going off topic for a split second, but you know, a bulldog headlock is a thing in wrestling, but it's a real thing in rodeo and if you think about it, nolan Ryan grew up around that, so maybe that's how he knew to do that.

Speaker 1:

You know, that's what Nolan Ryan does now. He raises beef. Really yeah, nolan Ryan beef, it's apparently really good. We got to get some. Well, we got to go to Texas.

Speaker 2:

Where do we get?

Speaker 1:

it. We got to go to Texas, the state.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the state. I used to go to Texas a lot. I'm not going back there. No, I don't have any interest in going to Texas.

Speaker 1:

Will they mail it to us? Maybe that's worth looking into.

Speaker 2:

Omaha Steaks usually do. Maybe Nolan Ryan Steaks will.

Speaker 1:

Maybe If anyone listening or watching has more detail on this situation with the Nolan Ryan beef and if we can get some at 2GTBpod on Twitter, just ring our bell. Let us know what you know about Nolan Ryan beef.

Speaker 2:

And we also put up our private Twitters too. You can get a hold of one of us at those also, or at the podcast Twitter. For goodness sakes, just tell us where we can get this beef.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Brian is really interested in eating some of Nolan Ryan's beef.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I have to have some of this free-range cow products if you will. I never said it was free-range, I know, I'm just searching for words here, okay, fair enough.

Speaker 1:

I'm just stringing them together and hoping they make a sentence I don't know if it is or isn't free range, I just, I just want, in case it's not, I don't want anybody coming after me right, I bet I probably overstepped my bounds there.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I imagine he's good to the cattle. I imagine they have like a little pool they lay out in and they sip their little mimosas and, you know, had those little fans that pull the the air on them. I mean I bet he treats his cows good, quinny's appalled, she just left oh, she will, she's out.

Speaker 1:

I don't know what you said, but she didn't like it. No, she didn't like it at all. But all jokes aside, you know this, this one, this white socks and rangers brawl, had a lot of the elements you were talking about. It got hot kind of quick and then it looked like they had it calmed down and there they went again. It was just kind of never-ending. Yes, it would just let it breathe a little. Yeah, it would breathe for a minute. And it seems like okay, everybody's calmed down. And then one guy was like nope, I'm not done, I've got to get one more. Seems like, okay, everybody's calmed down. And then one guy was like nope, I'm not done, I got to get one more.

Speaker 1:

You know, it was a classic. I mean again to me the quintessential brawl in Major League history. I'd say, without a doubt, that's right up there for me. And you know I had forgotten about Pedro and Don Zimmer when I was poking around trying to find, you know, some of these, you know memorable brawls. That was when I was like man, you know, and immediately started remembering stuff about it. And so you know, very cool, very, very cool.

Speaker 2:

But I got to mention this and just because it was one of the greatest moments of my life. It's not a brawl, but it should have been a brawl. It's the george brett running out of the dugout having the argument after the pine tar home run and the cork bat yeah, you know, every time I brought up brawls the last couple weeks, you, you bring that up and I'm going.

Speaker 1:

it's not a brawl, but it has the same energy as a brawl. You know, he comes out wide-eyed, fired up red in the face.

Speaker 2:

He should have hit him, or I would have accepted the umpire just hitting him. Somebody should have hit somebody. That was one of the greatest moments of my entire life as a human being on this planet was watching that as a kid and him come just barreling out of there. I thought, oh my God, someone's going to die on TV. Because that was my thing as a child. I just knew one day I was going to see someone dead on TV for real.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right.

Speaker 2:

I digress now, but George Brett, one of my greatest moments in life, and that never happened. Never happened, never happened and apparently, then one of my greatest disappointments.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, way to bring that whole fucking segment down. Brian, I appreciate that Okie dokie. So we have got some quick hits this week. We're going to run through pretty quickly, or at least relatively quickly. I'm not doing anything quickly today, but that's okay. Brian, are you ready for these quick hits? I am ready to quick hit. All right, it was billed as quick Go ahead.

Speaker 2:

And hits and hits. It was neither nor or, either or.

Speaker 1:

First things first. We talked two weeks ago our last episode with my brother Darren, who was nice enough to come and do some chit-chat about college baseball. We were in the thick of the College World Series. Well, since then, ole Miss defeated Oklahoma 4-2 to win the College World Series title. That's their first in program history, big deal. And the Rebels trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth, so it was looking kind of grim for them. And then, uh, kate horton, who had been just dealing for oklahoma, gets relieved by trevin michael. A little bit of a back and forth. Ole miss eventually comes out on top. Brian college bullpens, am I right?

Speaker 1:

I mean, yeah, they're, they're the worst even at the, even at the highest level, the college world series, a guy would come in out of the bullpen and they'd put up his stats and he'd have like a six er yeah, yeah, I mean how does and it changes like for these guys, like the next year.

Speaker 2:

Is it just the programs you think?

Speaker 1:

I, I think it's the nature of the game. You know, when you look at the college game this year, like the home run numbers are way up, offense is trending upward, um, but yeah, it's just, it's just a fascinating. It's like watching the CPBL in Taiwan or Korea, some of these leagues that the talent overall isn't as good as the majors. Or like going to a minor league game or an Appalachian league game where you're always going. If it's tight you're going. Okay, this is going to come down to the bullpens, like the bullpens are going to decide this game because there's it's always drama with the relief pitchers. So you know, same thing at the college level. But you know, um big congrats to Ole Miss. You know, cool for them to win the first championship in program history and put a nice little bow on the college baseball season. We're going to have to sharpen up a little bit next year on our college ball. I think we're going to.

Speaker 2:

We really are, and you know we should go and see a little UT baseball. Just to you know we're here, we might as well.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and ETSU in Johnson City. I'm right down the road Carson Newman yeah. So there's plenty of feasible action to see live and of course, you know, with the TV packages and everything, it's not hard to find college baseball.

Speaker 2:

Carson Newman actually plays at Smoky Stadium, so that's an easy one to go to. I know that's probably NAIA, would you say.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, give me a second, all right. Well, vamp for the people and I'll look it up.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, actually, I found out about this because I went up to buy my Bat Boy jersey and there was a game going on at noon and I was like, well, who's playing? Or I'll stay and watch. And it was, uh, carson newman playing, and uh, so I I found out that that was their home stadium, because they only have a football stadium. So yeah, lots of college ball around here. Etsu is a great team. Um, in fact, if I wouldn't have went to Alderson Broadus, my number two school was going to be ETSU. Again, we've talked about how I wanted to be a baseball player but I couldn't hit a curve, so it's probably good that I didn't go to ETSU. But plenty of college ball around here. How are we doing over there?

Speaker 1:

I'm trying, I'm trying. Let me click a couple of things here.

Speaker 2:

I can keep rambling. Yeah, please do, yeah. So UT is right up the road and they had a great season. We should go up there and see them. I would say that's the one that we want to look at when we go to see college ball, them or ETSU. I mean not to put down Carson Newman.

Speaker 1:

So Carson Newman is NCAA.

Speaker 2:

Oh, really yeah.

Speaker 1:

Okay, they might not be Division I, but I don't want to try to dig up that. I'm not good at it. The Google machine that quick? Well, I mean, I'm good with the Google machine. I just don't know exactly what I'm searching for there and how to get the answer without a bunch of dead air. But they are NCAA.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Well then I stand corrected and I apologize duly. I'll regret those choices until we're done Well.

Speaker 1:

I think you're right. I think for us, ut and ETSU are the best bets. You know UT obviously had a great season this year, despite the disappointment of not making it to Omaha. Etsu has put some guys in the draft the last couple of years, you know, and so there's definitely definitely good baseball being played both those places. So we'll have to, we'll have to brush up on our college next season, for sure. And yeah, absolutely, you know, as the, as the transfer portal kind of you know, gets into, uh, you know the ball rolling with that Guys, you know switching schools, switching programs, things of that nature. We'll have to keep an eye on it and see, you know, see if we can do a better job of representing the college game here on 2GTB. I think that's.

Speaker 2:

Yes, absolutely, we'll put that down. That's our plan.

Speaker 1:

All right. So, brian, I'm wondering if you have seen or heard about this. So Zach Greenke returned to the Royals this season, which a lot of people were excited about. It's his 19th, I believe, major League season. He started with the Royals, had a lot of success there, went on to, you know, garner some accolades with other teams, but pretty exciting for fans of the Kansas City Royals to see him come back and potentially finish up his career there.

Speaker 1:

So a 16-year-old fan approaches Zach Greinke with a ball that he's hoping he'll get Greinke to sign and, according to this 16 year old kid, grinky takes the ball and just chucks it just like way up into the bleachers. And the kid is sort of like shocked and he's saying, you know, he looks at Grinky and says why, why, why did you do that? I just have to know why would you do that. And Grinky just kind of looks at him and says why did you do that? I just have to know why would you do that. And Grinky just kind of looks at him and says for my own amusement. And that story gets out. You know, and Grinky, let's just be totally open and honest.

Speaker 1:

Zach Grinky is a guy who's always been known for marching to the beat of his own drum. Beat of his own drum doesn't doesn't really necessarily always use his cliches, you know he's not really into all that, he's just sort of his own, his own guy. Well, again six, this 16 year old kid kind of gets this story out. And then the team, the royals, come back and say whoa, there's another side to this story. So apparently zach grinky told the team that he had seen this 16 year old pushing down younger kids to get to zach grinky, I guess quicker or first or whatever, and that's why Grinky acted the way he did towards the teenager. So really kind of an odd story. Brian, I got a feeling you're going to have quite a bit to say on this.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, this guy's a dick. He didn't handle the situation at all, regardless of what side it was. So let's first of all say that, uh, let's take the kid's side and let's say that he came down there and he takes the ball and he chucks it up. First of all, he could hit somebody with the ball. Second of all, the kids standing there looking like an idiot. And then you go. Oh, because you know, I for my own amusement. Well, I mean, he better be thankful.

Speaker 1:

I wasn't the 16 year old kid, because there'd been a different headline, because then we got into my amusement.

Speaker 2:

But no, um, that's just immature. That shows that he's not ready to be on that level. Um then, let's take it from the team's view that he was pushing the kids. Well then you say, hey, man, don't push those kids. I got plenty of time, I'll make sure I sign everything right don't push those kids and look, and I let me just.

Speaker 2:

I have signed a few autographs in my day through wrestling, so I know that the lines get long, they get pushy or whatever, but it's all about you making them comfortable and realizing that you're going to sign their stuff, no matter how long it takes, right, even if you don't have that much time. You always are like if I get a chance, I'll come back. You control the way that it goes. You control so it doesn't, because they'll mob you, you know. So this guy is a dick because he can't handle his fame and he's too much in his head. So, either way, he's damned if he does, he's damned if he don't. He's a dick. He didn't do it right.

Speaker 1:

Well, and I think it's worth noting that you spent a lot of time when you were in wrestling being portrayed as a villain and a bad guy. Portrayed as a villain and a bad guy, correct, and at least in my experience, you never use that as an excuse to not spend time with a, especially a younger fan right, you know because because that's just not how you should be with with kids.

Speaker 1:

I mean, yeah, 16 years old, younger, it doesn't really matter. You know this is a weird one man and when I read it I was just sort of like I don't want to say surprised, even because Grinke, again, is a guy that, like I've seen him snap back at reporters and in situations where maybe it wasn't called for. You know, I just he just he can come off grumpy sometimes and I think that's what was going on here. He maybe was just I don't know, not having a great day but like, look, if you're not having a great day and you don't want to sign autographs, don't go over there, like at all, you know well, here's the thing we talked about on the last episode joey vato.

Speaker 2:

Joey vato has social anxiety. He has trouble getting out there and doing what he does and he's literally knocking it out of the park with the fans. Yeah, the fans love him. So if joey vato has social anxiety which I have social anxiety too then if you can overcome it and do it, then this other guy can too.

Speaker 1:

Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. So just a weird situation, no matter where the truth lies, and I think it's probably somewhere in between, just a weird, weird situation. Um, just a weird, weird situation. But speaking of weird situations, it is a sad day here on 2gtb because the national league player of the week curse I'm afraid brian has been broken out for good. So we had been keeping an eye on sandy alcontra, starting pitcher for the miami marlins, because we were a little iffy on you know the, the, the parameters of the curse when you're dealing with a starting pitcher who's going to play once in a week, compared to five, six, seven times in a week like a position player. Well, on June, the 21st and we talked about this, our last episode Paul Goldschmidt was named National League Player of the Week and I was pretty sure we were doomed at that point.

Speaker 1:

And all Paul Goldschmidt did is that 450 with three home runs and six RBIs in six games, you know, in his week as Player of the Week. And so that was kind of like, okay, maybe this thing's busted, but I decided to just keep with it because, well, number one, we didn't do it. We didn't do an episode last week.

Speaker 1:

So you know, we're kind of playing catch up here, but I wanted to see, would it go two weeks in a row, because that's not something we'd had happen yet right we hadn't had two weeks in a row where we're where the player of the week had good numbers the following week, you know, al contra being the one example and again we were sort of debating you know how to treat that, since he pitched one time in that week, right? So the 28th, freddie Freeman is named Player of the Week, another MVP caliber first baseman, and he didn't quite do what Goldschmidt did, but he hit 285, two home runs and four RBIs, so pretty good numbers, you know, uh, keeping the batting average up towards 300. So you know it, it's, it's unfortunate, but I think, I think the curse is broken, I think it's I think it's done, for I really do too.

Speaker 2:

Um, and it's very sad, um, I'm still going to keep my eye on it though. I mean I'm going to follow it and see. You know it could return.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you never know. You know we have a new player of the week in the National League. It's Reese Hoskins from the Philadelphia Phillies, pretty solid young player. But you know I'll continue to keep an eye on it. But I don't know, it doesn't look like it's the type of thing we're going to be discussing every week. But what a run.

Speaker 2:

What a run. We had a great run with it and I appreciate all of the tens of people who bought the shirt. I do appreciate them buying the shirt, which will be on sale for the quick little bit, and so if you want one, get them, get them while they're going. Okay, which will be on sale for the quick little bit. So if you want one, get them while they're going. Okay, we'll get to that in a second Just real quick.

Speaker 1:

You know, it took a guy like Paul Goldschmidt, who is just having a monster season this year for the Cardinals, I'd say by all accounts the front front runner, now for the National League MVP, with Mookie Betts missing some time and kind of having to recover from that cracked rib injury, and so that kind of cooled him off, even though he had been. You know, and here's the thing, when Mookie was at his hottest, paul Goldschmidt was still the National League player of the month. Right, and we thought there's no way anybody was better than mookie betts for that month, for the month of may. I mean, it just didn't make any sense. But but here we are, goldschmidt is just tearing it up. So, you know, kudos to him, obviously, kudos to freddie. I can't be mad that that he didn't fall victim to the curse. You know, uh, such an important part of the dodgers, which you know is important to me, but uh, but yeah, so so do we? Do we mark down the curse of the national league player of the week shirt, do we?

Speaker 2:

do we? I think we put them on sale okay, because the, the, the, uh, the curse was established. It was there, so this makes this a highly sought after collector's item, and we keep a look at these things for the next couple of weeks. If it does not return, then we will discontinue the item, but get them now, while they're hot, because they will be on sale. Um, I got a feeling, though, sometime before the season is over, the curse is going to return, and it's going to be multi-week. It's not going to just be a week here and a week there, because that could happen to anybody.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

I think we're going to see the return of it and go multiple weeks.

Speaker 1:

You're more confident than me, but I think it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm a believer in the curse man.

Speaker 1:

Well, I mean, we were here breaking the story, breaking ground, and that's what we're trying to do over at 2gtbstorecom, which is where you can get that fine National League Player of the Week curse T-shirt, along with some other great 2GT shirts um phone cases, women's wear puppy wear puppy wear.

Speaker 1:

I know I did all right, so we've got one last segment we're gonna uh finish up with today. As I mentioned a little bit earlier, I was at home it was a saturday, I'm pretty sure and I was watching, you know, bits and pieces of a lot of games, seeing some live looking stuff, and just you know um piddling around the house, but I had the tv on and I just you know I kept seeing like there was a you know a couple of really cool throwbacks. And then, you know, some teams were wearing their city connect uniforms and it was like, man, this is such a great uniform day in baseball and I decided for this week's show that we are going to each, brian and myself, pick out our top five favorite current major league uniforms. Now, this was tough for brian because he likes all the old ugly, retro stuff love the retro stuff you know.

Speaker 1:

So that's you know whatever. But, um, yeah, so we've. We've picked out our top five and we're going to talk about them. I was surprised a little bit to see we had some overlap when we compared lists. But uh, brian, uh, tell us about your five favorites and just give us a little bit on each one as to why they made your top five.

Speaker 2:

All right, number five the Blue Jays alternate alternative jerseys the full blue.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they're on my list too.

Speaker 2:

Yes, they're so ugly, they're cool, they're beautiful. Just all blue head to toe with the logo, with the uh, the, the bird down there and then the name.

Speaker 1:

Just tremendous and the cap on that is so cool too because it's the darker blue with the blue jay logo and the bill is that light blue yeah and it's just such a clean look, super duper. Man love it. Definitely on my list as well.

Speaker 2:

Number four is the orioles alternative as well, which is the throwback orange which is dear to my heart because I played minor league. I was an oriole, so it's similar to the jersey I wore as a kid, but I just love that iconic orange and black yeah, we've.

Speaker 1:

We've touched on it here before. When I was a very young kid, I was an Oriole fan because of my dad and I played on a team that was the Orioles one year, and orange and black was actually my high school's colors too. Oh okay, Orange and black was actually my high school's colors too, oh, okay. So you know, I still dig orange a lot for that reason, because I wore so much of it as a kid, I just, you know, took a liking to it. But those are cool. And you know, I was kind of excuse me skeptical when they went back to the cartoony bird and the three-color hat. But as they've worn it more and more, it's really grown on me again. I really dig it. So I think that's another good choice on your part.

Speaker 2:

Now number three. I put it in the middle because a lot of people aren't going to see them. It's not even worn that often. It's the Dodgers practice uniforms. Oh, the blue, the blue with the white and a little bit of the red under the arm, just a teeny bit, but it's blue and white mostly, yeah, and it just looks great and I love that it's. It's just different than the normal dodgers. Now, I really I know dodgers is your favorite deal, right, but I considered putting the the dodgers home jerseys on this list, but I tried to stay away from all white because all white is just that's not my favorite, right, but I do like those jerseys as well. But my number three pick is the dodgers practice yeah, I love those two.

Speaker 1:

Uh, it's, it's. It's kind of a shame, um, that we don't get to see those during the regular season. Um, it's just not something that the dodgers wear, you know they're they're pretty standard white at home gray on the road and and you know but one of my, you know, one of my favorite times of the year is spring training right you know it's.

Speaker 1:

It's something we look forward to all winter. Then it's finally here and there's spring training games and there's baseball every day, and part of what gets me so excited is that that's what the Dodgers wear all spring. Right, they wear the blues all spring for spring training. So it's like a celebration of Dodger blue in a way. So obviously, being a Dodger fan, I can get on board with that pick too. So, yeah, you're doing pretty good so far. I'm I'm actually proud of you really well.

Speaker 2:

I haven't heard the, the brewers or the padres yet, and I'm happy about that here's why because you limited the padres to what they're actually wearing this year, right, and they're not doing the throwbacks this year, so I couldn't pick the the the brown according to the list we looked at. Right, they didn't, they were the alternative, were the camouflage, right, right, not the old school padre, because I love that. I just got a jersey you'll see eventually of old school padre, you know, brown, I love it. But uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. But my number two is the Cincinnati Reds alternative, which is the red top with the big logo, and then the white pants, which I think is just the iconic look because it reminds me of some of the 80s teams.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, and such a classic look. I mean, I I can be a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to what teams should look like on the field, um, and that, that the reds just have a a timeless, classic look. You know, it's hard, it's hard to even look at a reds uniform and say, oh, that was the 70s or oh, that was that was the 90s. You know, because they've not changed a whole lot. Similar to the Dodgers. You know, in a respect, they just have this classic, timeless look and you can't really argue with that at all.

Speaker 2:

No, no, no. And my number one, as should come as no surprise, is cubs away alternative, which is similar to the one I have on. Uh, it is the this color blue with the logo like this, um, that they wear with typically the gray bottoms with the logo on the pants, which is very nice, because a lot of teams don't have the logo on the pants yeah that that uniform almost made my list because I've always liked the Cubs blues Really really great.

Speaker 1:

I love the logo with the kind of realistic-looking Cub walking through the sea and you know, it just reminds me of being a kid and watching those games on WGN and Sammy Sosa hitting all those home runs and Harry Carey and Steve Stone. The whole thing takes me back. So I really like those uniforms a lot.

Speaker 2:

So that's your five. Huh, that's my top five, with Padres throwback if it was in that year as my number six honorable mention, yeah, bleh.

Speaker 1:

So I'll start by saying the teams that are going back, the teams that are going backwards to what their look was in like the 70s, I I can't stand that. Um seeing, I love that, I can't stand it, I hate it. Um, the the padres is ugly. Brown and yellow is is hideous. It's terrible. Um, now, what they had prior to that wasn't much better, but I really liked their look in the 90s because it had a cool nod to the original san diego padres from the pacific coast league with the two with the s and d that were white and orange, that weren't the same color. They were two different colors, the two-tone um. So I could get down with that. But this brown and yellow is terrible. And these damn Milwaukee Brewers Boy Scout uniforms oh, I know they're awful Terrible.

Speaker 1:

Look, I know that I'm in a vast minority here and everybody loves that stupid glove logo, but I hate it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't care for it.

Speaker 1:

I can't stand it. First off, a lowercase b is you, you're, you're you're? Why do you want your name to be lowercase?

Speaker 1:

right because it makes the glove look cooler well, right, and and here's the other thing like how boring do you have to be to say, oh, we're a baseball team, our logo is a fucking glove, like, yeah, be more boring. Milwaukee, yeah, you're the brewers, and you had a really really good look that you could have just sharpened up and modernized a little bit with the really scripty M and like the barley Right. I loved that because it fit the identity. But now they're just taking the field in Cub Scout uniforms and it just sickens me.

Speaker 2:

Yeah well, I don't care for the Brewers at all, any way, shape, form or fashion, they don't entertain me. I mean, yes, they are rivals, but the uniforms are ugly. They got a couple good players, but I just it's rough when we have to play the Brewers or, as Ashley calls them, the sewers.

Speaker 1:

So there, that's off my chest and I feel better. Thanks for listening everybody. Um, so my top five, uh, is a, is a bit of a. It's kind of a mix of some new school stuff and some old school kind of classic stuff, so I actually changed one, one of mine as you were talking about yours.

Speaker 2:

Oh wow, we could do that.

Speaker 1:

Well, I mean, I can do that.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you're cheating is what you're doing.

Speaker 1:

Well, I mean, I don't understand how it's cheating, I just you know same team. I just switched which jersey. It was Okay. Okay, so I'm going to start with the Colorado Rockies City Connects. Start with the colorado rocky city connects. Um, these are kind of new. They're one of the more recent teams to unveil their city connects and I I've seen and heard some criticism from people in colorado about these, but I love them um, are these the one that looks like heineken's?

Speaker 2:

they're green and white, yeah with the mountains.

Speaker 1:

They they look like heineken beer. They're designed to look like the colorado license plate oh, okay, that makes yeah, the the white with the green yeah, yeah, yeah but I think they're great. I think they have a really modern feel to them, but I think you could also like be convinced that those were throwbacks, like that they.

Speaker 2:

They wore those back in the day they look like something out of the 70s 100, but in a good way, yeah, not in that terrible.

Speaker 1:

Let's just try the ugliest shit imaginable and hope people like it way man, the 70s was such a good time so anyways, um, so I really like these.

Speaker 1:

I think they're cool. You know, the Rockies are a division rival of the Dodgers, but I don't know if it's just that they've never really been that much of a threat in the NL West, but I've never really hated them. You know, it's kind of hard to even. You know, and I love their normal look too. I love the purple and silver. You know, cause? Cause nobody else has that.

Speaker 2:

Right, it's different.

Speaker 1:

You know they've got their own thing going on and it's, and honestly, it stood the test of time. You know it's, it's one of those um that was developed in the nineties. And here we are, you know, 30 years later, and it still holds up.

Speaker 2:

Right, right, absolutely, yeah, I mean that jersey is. You know, the colors are iconic and I like how they're vests too. They're one of the few teams like the Reds that wear a vest.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah. So Rocky City Connects will be the first of my five. And, speaking of City Connects, that people had a huge problem with and I thought that was funny were the Washington National City Connects, and people were so mad because there are flowers on these uniforms.

Speaker 2:

Oh I don't know if I've seen this.

Speaker 1:

Cherry blossoms.

Speaker 2:

Cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms.

Speaker 1:

Obviously, washington DC. Cherry blossoms is a huge thing there. It's a big deal, it's a big part of the culture in DC. Right, I love these things. They're like a slate gray, you know. Real simple. They've got the cherry blossoms which is like that faint kind of pink Mm-hmm, just really sharp, man, really sharp. And I'm not the biggest fan of their normal look. Right, I think it's a little boring, honestly, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Typical red team.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know, and they didn't really do much with the W from the old senators that they took and repurposed, which isn't a problem, it's just, you know, they're fine, nothing wrong with them. It just doesn't, you know, get me excited. But when I saw those cherry blossom City Connects, it definitely moved me more than their normal look. So I had to include them and I love the City connect concept. You know, I think it's such a cool thing that's being done and some some are better than others and I think there's some that I don't get. But I'm not supposed to. You know, like, like I'm not from boston. Why would I get really excited about boston city? Can you know what I mean? Right, because they're a weird color, you know. Yellow and baby blue, right, right, which means something in Boston.

Speaker 2:

But you know, but not to us, but I don't hate those. We need to make our list of just City Connects.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

We need to do that sometime, Because I love the Cubs-Wrigleyville City Connects and it didn't even make it on my list.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and I'm not the biggest fan of the Dodgers City Connects.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

They're cool. Nothing wrong with them, it's just they didn't do much with it, right, you know, didn't do much with it, and I was a little disappointed because, you know, there's some of these that are like really exciting and like a completely different color scheme and, and I get why, the dodgers stuck with blue. You know, right, the dodgers are not a team. You would expect to do a completely different color palette, right? Um, just because they were given the opportunity.

Speaker 1:

I do like the blue pants, though it's cool to see them blue on blue because, again, we don't see the blue during the season very much so to see dodger blue, you know uh at all is is pretty cool, but the the the full, you know, head to toe dodger blue is is kind of neat, uh, in its own way. So number three for me was those blue jays alternates that you you talked about again. First time I saw them a couple years ago I was like, man, that's a nice clean-looking uniform, just really, really cool. Again, a touch of modern with the all blue. But you could be convinced that's a throwback.

Speaker 2:

Right, they do look like a throwback.

Speaker 1:

Almost they really do. And the Blue Jays look is sort's a throwback. Right, you know they almost they do look like a throwback, almost they really do. And and the blue jays look is sort of a throwback because they went through some different, you know, twists on their uh, their brand and they ended up going back sort of to what they started with originally, right, at least from the logo, the standpoint of the logo and the general vibe of of the look. But you know, I like the blue jays anyway. They're, they're, they're a cool team. I like to watch them when, uh, when uh, the dodgers aren't on and I'm just looking for a game, if the blue jays are on, I'll watch the blue jays right and, and I love those uniforms. So so those are really cool.

Speaker 1:

Uh, number four for me, and this one kind of surprised me. So we had decided to do this topic, to do this segment, and I was kind of like mentally trying to go through and say, is there an obvious five? Is there an obvious three? And then it's like four or five competing for the last two, like where am I at? And I saw a picture and I can't remember who the player was, but one of the current Rangers players wearing the Texas Rangers throwbacks with the old like ranch font. And then they've got one red stripe, one blue stripe on the sleeve yeah, you know, the old cap with the block t. Yeah, you know, and I was just like man. Yeah, that's a good looking uniform. Yeah, yeah, and I and I understand that the rangers have like 37 different uniforms that they wear throughout the season, but that that one is pretty cool.

Speaker 1:

So, you know, I'm big on baseball teams having an identity with their town or their city, just because of the history of baseball and going back to town ball and how every town had a team, right. So the names of the teams were often, you know, something that was sort of synonymous with the community, right. So you know, I think the Texas Rangers definitely fit that bill. They have a kind of classic, timeless look and, you know, there's a lot of identity with Arlington, texas, there. But those throwbacks, man, man, they caught me off guard. They really did, because, um, had I not seen that picture, I don't think they would have even been in the conversation for me, but seeing um seeing it in photo quality on an actual player made me go. Man, I gotta consider that. And they ended up making my list. They nudged out the Cubs. Blue alternate for me just barely.

Speaker 2:

Have you seen the Rangers alternate hat that has the roses around it? I think so. Yeah, I've seen something like that. I love that. I think that's very cool, but I imagine that's something that you're not so hip on.

Speaker 1:

I'd have to see it again to really say for sure.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'll have to get it now.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's better than the hat you currently have on.

Speaker 2:

This hat rocks America.

Speaker 1:

Okay so my fifth and final selection here for my top five favorite current MLB uniform. So you were talking about the Dodgers when you gave your list Right, and I originally had the Dodgers home whites on here because it felt wrong to not mention them. However, while you were talking, it occurred to me that the Dodgers have another uniform that I like better than the home whites, and I'll explain why. Okay, so my fifth selection for favorite current Major League uniforms is the Dodgers Aways, the Away Grays, but the ones that say Los Angeles across the chest, and I'm adamant that that's the only away grays they should wear, because a team should have their team name on their homes and the name of their city on their aways. It just makes sense. Yes, when you're traveling away, you're representing your city.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

When you are in your home city, you're obviously still representing your city, but you're in your city, so you're representing your team, yes, in that city.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

You know, and I just think that makes the most sense, and I love the Dodgers uniform set. You know, again, it's not changed it's not, it's hardly changed it's hardly changed at all for decades.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, I changed mine from the home whites to the away grays that say Los Angeles, because I think that makes the most sense, and the Dodgers. Actually, this season started the year pretty much only wearing those on the road and I got excited. And then we took a pretty long road trip and had the ones that say Dodgers for that whole road trip and I was like man, you know, I just don't want to see those anymore. I want to see the ones that have the city on the jersey, the way it's meant to be. Yeah, I think so, you know. Just, you know. And, again, that's opinion and that's fine If you don't agree. But you know, that's how I feel about it, because I, again, you should be representing your city when you're on the road, yeah, absolutely. And representing road, yeah, you know, absolutely. And representing your team, you know, when you're in your city and you're you're in front of your home fans, you know they, they're not, they're, they're there to see. You know, if it's los angeles, they're there to see the dodgers, you know. So. So that's my five. Uh, um, um, I'm.

Speaker 1:

I was happy to see we had some crossover, you know, and and close to even more crossover, because I almost picked a second one, one that you had on your list. But yeah, so that's our top five favorite MLB uniforms of present day, respectively Brian's and then mine. So you know, let us know what you think. I'm sure anybody listening is going to be mad that I hated on the Brewers and the Padres. But you know, fight me, bro. I guess I don't know. You know, hit us up on Twitter and tell me how wrong I am At 2GTBpod.

Speaker 2:

It was billed as a bench-clearing brawl over Dallas's opinion. What it was was failure to launch.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, something like that. I don't know, I don't know with these kids and the newfangled jerseys and hats.

Speaker 2:

Back in my day we didn't even have a glove.

Speaker 1:

Well, speaking of newfangled jerseys and hats, if I never see that hat again my favorite hat It'll be too soon. My new favorite hat Well, Brian, that's pretty much everything we had on the docket for today. Was there anything else you wanted to get off of your chest before we let the people go on their merry way?

Speaker 2:

No, I'm just happy that we had a great week in baseball.

Speaker 1:

I thought you'd say something like that. Yeah Well, thanks so much as always for listening. Folks, we really do appreciate it. I know we say that like we're reading it off of a script, but we really mean it when we say it. It's something that we started just for fun, because we wanted to do it, and the fact that anybody listens at all is remarkable to us and we really appreciate it. So, you know, keep up with us.
