Speaker 1:

The Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a plant nursery and tropical environment consultant? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor Pete Fuller, with his tree nursery company and tropical environment consultant company called Pistol Pete's Palms. Pete, how are you doing today?

Speaker 3:

I'm great. How are you?

Speaker 2:

Great Well, we're excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us a little bit about your company.

Speaker 3:

We're a tree nursery brokerage and a tropical relaxation consultant, meaning basically, uh, we can either get you some of the trees, because the landscaping and the architecture as far as the trees are concerned in the dallas area are amazing uh, we have 267 different types and we have partnerships with, like century oasis pools, andas, where they can come out completely transform your area with whatever aquatic needs you have, whether it's a pool, a spa, and they have some packages where they will actually come in and bring whatever trees you need, add all the tropical palms you need and whatever for your different projects or your business or your environments. Just trying to give you that little relaxed edge for those that are here from California or Florida or just want to feel like they're on the beach.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, that's awesome. How'd you get into such an interesting business?

Speaker 3:

Actually, I started buying palm trees and they were ungodly expensive and I thought that one of the local people were possibly taking advantage of me and I started speaking with neighbors and in my travels going around with another one of my companies, I was able to talk to a few farmers and make partnerships where we could get the trees and the things that we needed a lot cheaper than what the different companies that were here were charging. We're basically a wholesale company to the public. If you find something cheaper than ours, we can always get it lower than what they're charging.

Speaker 2:

Okay, I haven't heard much about your type of company before. Are there any myths or misconceptions about it?

Speaker 3:

Very niche. A lot of people can't make it in tech.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'm so sorry you had cut out. What was that?

Speaker 3:

I couldn't hear you. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:

So sorry you had cut out. What are the myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

Well, a lot of people think that palm trees can't make it in Texas and one of the native Texas trees is a Texas sable, which is a palm itself. It's about care about the land you have. It's about what you want. Many states Texas, georgia, louisiana, florida they naturally have palm trees that grow there. It's just a different type of foliage, a different type of branch. So a lot of people think they can't make it. And at my personal home, in my front yard alone, I have 50 different palm trees and I have not had one die yet. As long as you wrap them up during the winter, the tops of them and some don't even need to be wrapped, but as long as you wrap them for heavy ice or whatever, they'll make it through fine.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

I like to relax. I've got a lot of great friends that sometimes I just like to hang around my pool and my tropical oasis in my backyard and maybe think of the next move or something that we're going to do or how we're going to enjoy life.

Speaker 3:

I mean, we have a big metroplex that is full of different things to do throughout the entire area and we have a lot more companies coming in that are going to be purveyors of things that we can do, like the mineral pools. I'm looking forward to going to try that out.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. Now let's go ahead and change gears for a second. Can you describe one hardship that you had to overcome and you can say because of it, now you're better and stronger? What comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

for all of you. 17 years ago, maybe 18 years ago, I was homeless. My tent could fit in my pantry and for those that know my home, they would think that's amazing to go from less than 25 square feet to right at 10,000 square feet Now. I think that was a very humbling experience. It helped me see life from many different perspectives and appreciate and be grateful for all things, regardless of what they are. I used to have a very nonchalant attitude about a lot of things, but I've learned to be. If you can't help somebody, don't hurt them. If you can't be good to somebody, don't be bad and be grateful for everything, because regardless of how bad you think you have it, there's somebody that has it way worse that wish they were in your position.

Speaker 2:

Wow, definitely. And, pete, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Pistol Pete's palms.

Speaker 3:

That there is only one Pete Fuller, that I am that guy. If you need anything, I'm that connection maker in Texas. Whether you're a prince from Dubai coming in or a former president or whoever you may be, everybody knows Pete Fuller and they know that you know, if you need a helicopter or a jet or a pool or whatever, I'm that guy you call because my circle of friends is quite immense and I like to make sure that good people are connected with good people.

Speaker 2:

Always. And how can our listeners learn more about Pistol Pete's Poems?

Speaker 3:

Well, we've got a website with the namesake it's pistolpetepoemscom. You can go there. You can see some of our history. Uh, some of our availability lists. Some of our forms are there. Uh, we have access to over eight forms, 267 different varieties of plants. Uh, we can get your consultant out there to let you know what you need. Or you can call us, and whether you need 10 trees or 10,000, we're going to get you the absolute best quality that we can find you. And if you need an entire village of pools and spas and palms built so we can make this area just our own little North Texas beaches area, then we're the people that you would call.

Speaker 2:

Well, Pete Fuller, I really appreciate you being on the show. We wish you and your business the best moving forward thank you, I appreciate you and I appreciate your time thank you.
