Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette. Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a dance fitness business? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, shanda, with the business Hip Hop Dance, cardio Fitness with Shanda Jambox, frisco. Thank you for the welcome Welcome.

Speaker 3:

How are you doing today? I'm good. I'm good Just getting through the day. How about yourself? Same here. Well, we're excited to learn all about you and your business. So tell us a little bit about your awesome company, but mainly hip hop, but I do kind of throw in some Zumba and some reggae things of that nature and just to kind of have a fun atmosphere, to kind of, you know, get those calories burning and to have fun while doing it.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. Well, how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

So I've been dancing all my life, like literally all my life. But I didn't get into fitness until like 2017. I actually started off with Herbalife. I'm not sure if you've heard of Herbalife, I know a lot of people have but I started off in that and then it kind of faded away. But then I kind of picked it up two years ago, teaching at Lifetime, and then I got pulled into Jambox last year, at the end of last year actually.

Speaker 2:

So it's been pretty fun, awesome. And are there any myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I will say that because I'm a big fitness guru, so people think maybe I may not eat sweets or something every now and then, but I like to eat a lot, actually, surprisingly so that would be a misconception is that we don't really, I guess, have fun eating or partaking in different foods, things like that.

Speaker 2:

So okay, and I know this is a pretty fun career. But outside of work, what hobbies do you have?

Speaker 3:

yeah, I actually like skating um hiking, so a lot of fitness activities. Um drawing, I have a coloring, several that I like to do and I like to spend time with my dog, so oh, ok, that sounds like a lot of fun.

Speaker 2:

Well, we've talked about all the positives, but let's go ahead and change gears for a little bit. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose above and can now say, because of it, you're better and stronger?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I will say it's a sensitive subject, but I would like to be an advocate as well for, like battered women, I was in a bad relationship at one time, so I felt like coming out of that situation helped me be a better person in general and just kind of like being aware of like red flags and things of that nature, just being a voice for other young women who may be going through the same thing.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, Wow, that's definitely very important. And can you tell our listeners one thing they should remember about your business when they think of Jambox Fitness?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, they should remember that. It's a place where you can have fun. There's no judgment. We're there to kind of encourage everyone to just lose weight and burn calories and have fun while doing it. So there's no judgment zones and it's open to all types of genres Awesome.
