Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of an automotive detailing supply store? Surprisingly, we'll maybe closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbors Aaron and Elena, with a detailing world prosper. How are?

Speaker 3:

you guys doing today.

Speaker 2:

We're doing good. Yes, thank you. We are very excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us a little bit about it.

Speaker 3:

Well, we are a family owned business. Myself, my husband Joe, our daughter Aaron and son-in-law John have a detailing supply store in Prosper, texas, and we've been there since 2022. We offer a very large selection of different brands to be able to work on whatever vehicle you have, whether it's a car or a motorcycle, an RV or a boat, and we also teach classes at our store and have monthly car shows.

Speaker 2:

And how did you ladies get into this business?

Speaker 4:

Good question how do we get into this business? We actually always wanted to have a family business together. We thought that would be a lot of fun and obviously a lot of work, but that we all have a good work ethic and we could get through it. So when we we talked about doing different types of businesses, but really nothing landed for us until we found an automotive detail supply retail store, which sounded like a lot of fun, because my husband and my dad are both car people. My husband's been in the automotive industry for forever. He's grown up loving cars, and my mom and I love serving people, and so we kind of thought that that combination would be perfect for us to be able to serve people in a retail environment and still be in an industry that we that we love.

Speaker 2:

So and are there any myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah, there's lots of misconceptions in the detailing, detailing industry. I think everybody thinks that they have the best brand. Everybody thinks that, or you know some consumers think, you know, it's just water down, all you need to do is xyz. Or I just used on dish soap to wash my car and you know a lot of people just think that any soap will do or any cleaner will do or any tire shine will do. But really every brand makes something different depending on what it is that you need. Some are more aggressive, some are not. Some people think that, oh, they just make the same thing over and over again. It just smells different. Well, that doesn't. That's not always true either.

Speaker 4:

Depending on who you're shopping with, what brand it is that you're working with, you know you could get different results, and we have everything from just basic wash soap all the way to ceramic coatings. So we really runs the gambit of what it is that you're looking for. So misconceptions and, I think, misunderstandings. I think some people overthink it. It doesn't have to be too complicated, but all depends on how, how far down the rabbit's hole you're looking to go with detailing, and that's really what we offer at the store is to help people figure out what they want to do in detailing and how much they want to do themselves. And if they don't want to do it themselves, that's OK. We can connect them with someone who's a professional in the industry who can help them.

Speaker 2:

And I mean as a family business. Outside of work, what do you ladies like to do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Oh well. Well, we have eight grandchildren, so that keeps us kind of busy and we like to travel. Joe and I like to travel. We've been to Florida this year and Colorado and Alabama and we like to travel. We love to have family over and have grandkids sleepovers and cousin days and things like that. So we keep ourselves busy with all kinds of activities and we're pretty adventuresome and we're we're, we're up for a challenge most days, most days when we're not asleep yeah, uh, my husband and I like to go up to lake texoma.

Speaker 4:

We like to go up on a pontoon boat and and hang out up there and hang out with our friends and, uh, spend the days at the racetrack. We kind of live close to the new g2, motor park that's up in Anna, so try to venture up there every once in a while. I know they're hosting a lot of new events, but I would like to go to the racetrack. We have a five and a half year old son, so we do a lot of activities with him. He goes to a event called kids strong every week and, um, so a lot of things focused around, around our kiddo, of course, but our friends have kids that are his similar age, so it's nice to feel that everybody get together and let the kids run wild and let the adults, you know, relax a little bit Chill.

Speaker 2:

Hey, chilling is always good. Now we've discussed a lot of the positives, but let's go ahead and change gears. For just one second. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say, because of it, you're better and stronger? This can even be a challenge you've faced as a family business.

Speaker 3:

Do you want to go? Well, sure I can go.

Speaker 4:

Okay, you start A family business is a challenge. It absolutely is. You can't get away from your co workers. You're always together. You know, like my mom said, it's it's her and her husband, which is my dad and then my husband. So we get to go to our houses separately, of course, but then I'm always with my husband and she's always with her. So you can never escape your coworkers. And sometimes that's okay, and other times you're like I want to kill you and it has nothing to do with the marriage, it has something to do with the business. So, you know, sometimes that happens too.

Speaker 4:

We do all have kind of different ideas and how things can be done in the business and maybe should be done, and really it's just based on experiences that we have, and so sometimes there can be a little bit of clashing or disagreements in there. But you know we work it out and do the best we can to work together and progress our business going forward and ultimately the family is more important than the business. So if it ever gets to the point that you know some, for some reason, some issue can't be resolved, then we, you know family is more important than than the business, of course so, but but that can be a struggle. And as far as the back end of the business goes, for sure. I mean ask anybody who has a family business. I'm sure they would. They wouldn't say everything's peachy keen all the time. No, no.

Speaker 3:

So, uh, for I would say for us, we've we've done a lot of uh. Being married for 43 years, we've had a lot of, done a lot of things in our lives and um, so as I I think about this, I was thinking we, my husband and I, we moved from uh illinois to new hampshire, only knowing two people, and started a life there, and that was. That was quite a challenge, but we made some wonderful friends and made some beautiful connections and had the opportunity to actually we built two homes. We actually built a log cabin. Erin had a little hammer that she used to help build our front porch and you know we had.

Speaker 3:

We had to do what we had to do to be able to make our dream come true, which was to own a log home. And then, a few years after that, our oldest son, aaron's older brother, oldest brother, had cancer. So that was another challenge that we had to deal with. But he's doing great, he's thriving, he's married, has three beautiful children Our family has just, we move through the situations, um, we don't run from the challenges and um, we are stronger for it, and I'm so very grateful for that.

Speaker 2:

Wow, that is amazing, and I'm so glad to hear that he is cancer free Also. That's most certainly a blessing. Um, ladies, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about detailing world prosper.
