Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of holistic health care? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbors Dr T and Dale, with North Texas Healing Center. How are you both doing today?

Speaker 3:

Good afternoon, hello Thanks for having us. Yes, thank you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, of course we're excited to learn all about you both and your business. Can you tell us a little bit about your company?

Speaker 3:

Sure. So I am a chiropractor and Dale is a massage therapist, and we're both here. We do a lot of chiropractic but a lot of holistic health care with. We offer multiple modalities and our biggest deal is offering muscle testing that is able to evaluate any kind of stress in your organs and get to the root cause of any sorts of issues that you may be experiencing or symptoms that you may be experiencing.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

Originally a chiropractor. You know, I first visited a chiropractor when I was very young. I fell off of a horse. I grew up farming and ranching and I, as animals, do they become a little squirrely and it threw me off the horse and so my parents took me in the chiropractor and I felt much better and saw relief and continued to go, and from there I've learned a number of other modalities while going to chiropractic school. That has led me to open this clinic and do what I do here, with everything. I used to work for a guy who originally started the clinic, and he's gone off to do other speaking events as well and doing everything that he can to just help get the good word out. His name is Dr Artis and he was here with us for a while before he took off to do his own thing, so that's what got me into this.

Speaker 2:

Okay and Dale, how did you get into this business?

Speaker 4:

I actually had the experience of being a patient here first, so I came here with a long list of issues that we just couldn't quite figure out and get pinned down and decided to try something alternative and didn't really know that this existed. I had been to many, many doctors, through many surgeries, and this is what worked. It's been absolutely life changing, doing something natural and being healthier than I've ever been.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and what are the myths or misconceptions in your industry? I mean, you guys are doing something so unique. There has to be some misconceptions about you.

Speaker 4:

I think the big one for me is that we're anti-medicine, we're not anti-medicine, so it's not like this big divide between you know, if you see a medical doctor, then we're not for you or vice versa. No, it's, it's. We see all kinds of people. We have local pediatricians that support what we do and send kids to us, and so it's um, it's just a good addition to educating yourself about health and wellness, and and we do everything natural. So it's it's fun because we use whole food supplements and herbs, so Okay.

Speaker 2:

And outside of work. What do you both do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Um, I, uh, I have two kids and a wife at home and you know my wife is also here that helps me run my business. So we stay pretty busy with those two kids and running this business that we do. And, uh, you know, in any off chance that we can, we used to do a lot of camping, you know, before we had children and and get out into nature and do some hiking and things like that, but the most part it's hanging out with our kids and you know giving them experiences and also just keeping them alive.

Speaker 3:

you know, which is a big part of it, but it's mainly with my family is what we do for fun. So I like to hang out with my family. You know I love them.

Speaker 4:

I do a lot of travel, a lot of concerts, kayaking, camping. I'm always on the go. In the summertime it's go, go, go. So yeah, I like to travel. That's probably my biggest thing.

Speaker 2:

And let's go ahead and change gears for a second. We've talked about a lot of the positives, but, as we know, life, unfortunately is not always sunshine and rainbows. So can you both describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say because of it, you're better and stronger. When I say that, what comes Well.

Speaker 3:

I know Dale's got quite a story. She sees some health challenges that have definitely made her better. I'll let her tell that.

Speaker 4:

I think there's so many things I could speak to on that. You know, obviously the big one associated with this clinic is my own health journey. But another thing that I'm really involved in that I wouldn't count as a hobby, but definitely a passion I get to advocate for kids in court that are in the foster system. So I had a lot of that growing up, in and out of foster care and shelters and whatnot. So now I get to kind of be a voice for kids in court and I do that on a volunteer basis and absolutely love it. I get to really see families come together and I'm currently in the middle of one with an adoption process.

Speaker 2:

So that's just one of my little things outside of the clinic, but yeah, yeah, okay, and what kind of helped you get through that tough time when you were in, uh, let's say, a health crisis? Was it just the support that you had, um, within the clinic?

Speaker 4:

yes, um, being here. You know, when you don't have your health, you don't have anything. And now that I'm doing so much better, I have the energy and the time to do the things that I'm passionate about, including being here with patients and cheering them on through their process. I love working with kids. They're probably my favorites. Working with kids they're probably my favorites. Don't tell the big people, but the kids are my favorites and really getting to see them start off on the right foot in health and, you know, learn how to enjoy healthy foods and just teaching the parents. You know there's really good ways we can walk through life that don't have to be so overwhelming Behaviors and how to get your kids to eat good food and just a lot of different things like that. Clearing up eczema that's when I see a lot. So, yeah, it's, it's. It's really fun to be here. Very fulfilling place to work and be a part of.

Speaker 2:

And Dr T. What about you?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you know, having some health issues of my own when I was in high school and seeing how and again going back to my chiropractor is seeing how the supplements that they used for me were what completely got me turned around and got me into a better place with that is that you know, at the time in high school you think you're invincible and you don't you know, you don't, you don't think nothing's going to hurt you and and the things get scary for a little bit and seeing that natural herbs are effective and seeing that whole food is effective, you know that's where.

Speaker 3:

That's where, uh uh uh, drug companies get a lot of their inspiration is from nature. You know they find a lot, of, a lot of things in nature that lead them to develop different cures or different drugs or things like that. So so, seeing how nature can and does work synergistically with people and can help to reverse symptoms has been a big eye opener for me, which is what another part of what led me into doing this and and being here for people. And you know I just have a natural love for for actually seeing people get better. I tell my staff all the time and everybody hears it. There's nothing that gets me more excited than when I see people leave here feeling better.

Speaker 4:

You know they come in.

Speaker 3:

I can't tell you how many times I've heard people come in here saying that I am literally their last stop there's you know, they don't know what they're going to do after this and seeing their kind of lives get turned around is is incredible to me and and it's all through, just you know, adjustments and and healing with herbs and supplements and and changing their diet. It really is the cause of a lot of disease is the inflammation in our diets. That's a huge part of why Americans are so sick, and it makes me sick to see people sick. You know, and I know it affects Dale, and that's what we're here for is to just help people on their journey of getting better without having to just take chemicals all the time.

Speaker 2:

And what is the biggest? What is let's say this what is the quickest adjustment someone could make to their diet to start improving their health?

Speaker 3:

Removing sugar it is by far the biggest bane of our existence is sugar. Now, that's not a fruit sugar. You know, eating whole fruit is fine as long as you eat the fiber, but literally eliminating sugar and adding fiber into your diet One of the biggest things that's taken out of our foods is fiber vitamins, minerals and a lot of ultra processed foods. Just adding fiber back into your diet and monitoring your sugar and removing your sugar can do wonders in helping your inflammation to improve. And then the next thing is grains. You know wheat and corn. Those things are big inflammatory condition or inflammatory creating foods. So eliminating grains and eliminating sugar and adding fiber in your diet can make a huge difference just off the bat.

Speaker 4:

You know, helping people, coaching people on how to go to the grocery store and what to buy, is something that was super helpful to me in the beginning. And if you look at your perimeter of your store, it's closest to nature. That's why I try to tell people closest to nature and organic if you can, and avoid things that have chemicals added to them and highly processed. But yeah, all of that stuff is. You know they put chemicals in food that cause us to be addicted to it. So it's important to eat as close to nature and organic or all the healthier options. You know the list goes on and on but if it's possible to definitely eat as close to nature and as clean as possible, yeah, I would agree 100%.
