Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a realtor? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, heidi Marsh, with Divine Doorsteps Realty Group. Heidi, how?

Speaker 3:

are you doing today? I am fantastic, Sophia. Thank you so much for having me on.

Speaker 2:

Of course. Well, we are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us a bit about Divine Doorsteps.

Speaker 3:

So I developed Divine Doorsteps Realty because truly, your home should be a place that just lights you up inside. It should be divine. And I truly believe there's a house for everybody. And so I am a woman of deep faith and so I do pray over my clients for the perfect house, and I believe that God's got it for us and then he's going to use my unique skillset to deliver that home in a fantastic way.

Speaker 3:

And how did you get into this business? Oh goodness, I was kind of born into it. My mother ran the Sacramento Valley Apartment Association. I'm originally from California, moved here in 2011 and never looked back, but in California my mom ran the apartment association, so I was in and around investors and licking envelopes for mailers to get property owners up to date on laws and regulations. From the time I was a little tyke and then went directly from there into the title business, which gave me phenomenal background and I think is one of the greatest assets I think I bring to the table is I know the back end of the business, so I know red flags. I know what to look for, I'm a phenomenal problem solver and I think that makes me a little unique in the industry.

Speaker 2:

And touching a little bit on some of those red flags, what are some of the myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

Oh, I think there's quite a few. I think one of the biggest things I would share with your it's real estate. No two deals are alike. Nothing is set in stone. But having somebody who can see ahead and know how to navigate a challenge For example, even on a timing issue, when you have a seller that needs a lease back how to protect that client in the process of a lease back with the appropriate verbiage Because, sophia, listen, we can all find a house. Let's be real. You know everything is now at our fingertips. We can all go find a home online. But really I believe the realtor's job and my job specifically starts when we do find that home being able to write a strong contract to allow for longer timelines, protecting earnest money, navigating inspections and how to write those timing nuances to give the buyer the most flexibility and the greatest outcome. That's really where the rubber meets the road. And then, from a listing side, tightening up those timelines. On the reverse right, when I have a buyer, I want expanded timelines and opportunities. When I have a seller, I want to tighten those timelines. Make sure that the seller or the buyers are completely qualified. That takes extra due diligence on my side to reach out to the lender to have those conversations.

Speaker 3:

And it's kind of funny because I have two nicknames in life. One is Heidi the Hammer, which my clients gave me only because I am so tenacious and I negotiate very, very passionately for my clients' outcomes and I know how to drive a deal right. I know I know kind of how to structure a transaction to really make it a win. And then outside of real estate, I'm Heidi the hugger, so you kind of need both in a real estate environment and I think that kind of makes me giggle. When my clients gave me Heidi the hammer, I I resisted it initially because I thought no, I'm not the hammer, I'm warm and friendly and you know I am a full contact sport. I'm probably going to hug you when we meet, if we have any kind of relationship at all. But then when they gave me Heidi the hammer, I thought you know, I love that. It's a good balance, right. I know when to be, you know, tough and drive a deal, but I also make it a super fun. Enjoyable experience for all of my clients is the feedback I get.

Speaker 2:

Now let's go ahead and change gears for a second. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say because of it, you're better and stronger. For you, what comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

Boy I think that would be over 20 years ago my decision to get sober. It was a game changer for me, for my family, for my legacy. I don't know where I would be as a professional, and that was tightly geared to my faith. You know, I think he's my CEO, the Lord is my CEO, and so it makes business challenges completely different when I have him, you know, guide my steps and being bringing my strength and and he gives me great insight.

Speaker 3:

You know, I think there's a misconception sometimes that people try to keep their faith away from their business and separate it, and I don't. I don't know how you can truly do that. And so I think those are the two things, my faith and, just you know, my decision to for to choose never to drink again. And the surprise in that, you know I, I was always the life of the party and I thought that when I took that away, I would no longer be the life of the party. And the reality is I am absolutely as energetic and enthusiastic and on the dance floor kind of gal that I was before. But I wake up the next day and I feel great.

Speaker 2:

That's amazing. So what would you say? It's really your faith that got you through that tough time.

Speaker 3:

Oh, absolutely Absolutely. And my husband and I we have four amazing children together and I will share that. You know that we didn't do it the right way, right, we did not, you know, even though I knew in my heart and soul the right way to do it, we didn't. We made every mistake in the book and I think you know that was a lead point to a lot of my drinking, because I was so challenged with what I knew to be the right way and I wasn't living that out, and so it created that, you know, that tension in me and just had no, I had no peace Right.

Speaker 3:

And so, um, when I, when I faced that and got sober and my husband, I really then started to build our marriage and our legacy in a way that now I think inspires others, and I will just share this little piece. We're marriage mentors now, which, when we got asked to be marriage mentors, I called back to my family and I said listen if y'all didn't think there was a God, listen if y'all didn't think there was a God. You know now because Alonzo and I were just invited to lead a marriage ministry and what a testimony to what our life of chaos and conflict used to be and now just to be that inspiration for other couples and people that feel hopeless and feel like there's just no know, there's just no way for reconciliation. I can just tell you there he's it and God's the way, and if you can keep looking up, he'll get you through anything. He really will, and we're a testimony to that.

Speaker 2:

Wow, what an inspiring story, heidi. How can our listeners learn more about Divine Doorsteps? Realty Group?

I want to help. I'm just one of those people. That is just. I want to be there for people. If there's a particular struggle that you're facing right now, if I can pray with you about something, if I can be a realtor, that would be amazing. But you know what? There's a lot of times that just, we need people, we need good people in our lives, coming alongside of us and trying to help us get to our next, and I would love to be that for people.
