Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a human resources solutions company? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, Dee Maddox, with DMX Consulting. Dee, how are you doing today? I'm fine. How are you, Sophia? I'm doing great. We are so excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you tell us a bit about DMX Consulting?

Speaker 3:

Well, yes, thank you for asking. So, as you mentioned, I am your neighborhood human resource solutions. I've been a Frisco resident for 14 years and in 2021, I decided to leave my federal career of 25 years and launch DMX Consulting, and I decided to use the letters in my name, dmatics, so it stands for demand excellence. One of the things that I've just focused on throughout my personal and professional career is just being the best that you can possibly be, not being obsessed with perfection, but just doing your best. So I realize that there are a lot of people who agree with me and they think that people are the most important asset in any business, so I've set my sights on providing people focused HR solutions through corporate training, executive coaching and leadership assessments.

Speaker 2:

And with all you do. I'm sure there's some options. Would you be able to elaborate on a few of those?

Speaker 3:

I think that people think that training is often optional and training and developing and investing in your employees is required. You don't take an important asset like a car, a piece of jewelry, a piece of technology and then not do everything within your power to educate yourself on what makes it tick, and then to do all that, use all the bells and whistles that you pay for. So human assets are the same. We have to invest in them and it's not optional. So I think that's the biggest misconception that when budgets get tight, people often cut the training and development of their teams.

Speaker 2:

And outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Oh, so many things. So I have a passion for mission-focused organizations. So I've done all the things here in Frisco like served on Frisco Education Foundation. I've graduated Frisco Chamber Leadership, frisco Class 24. I volunteer for Frisco Family Services, so anything that's mission focused to do with unsheltered or food insecurity. I love to volunteer my time and give back and currently I do that as a member of the Junior League of Collin County. I'm on the Nonprofit Excellence Workshop Committee and any nonprofit organization in Collin County can attend these monthly sessions for free. So I sort of take in my corporate tools and I'm using them as my give back to the community.

Speaker 2:

Wow, that is very, very kind of you. Let's go ahead and change gears for a second. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose above and can now say because of it, you're better and stronger? When I say that for you, what comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

For me, it comes to mind the untraditional nature of my college career. It actually took me eight years going part-time to finish my college degree. And I will say this it wasn't because I was playing around or I was ever unenrolled. I was always enrolled. I made sure I took at least one class per period and actually I was working full time and putting myself through. So, even though it took me longer than the average student to complete my degree, I actually gained a lot of work experience through that time and I actually met my husband while I was matriculating.

Speaker 2:

That's really awesome. What was the biggest thing that got you through that time being in school for an extended amount of time? I mean, I would assume it would take a lot of focus to stay determined and stay on track. It was actually friends.

Speaker 3:

I had a group of friends that I'd had through middle school and high school. Because I was a commuter student, I didn't go away to school, so I graduated University of Alabama at Birmingham. I'm originally from Birmingham so having those lifelong friends and community around me allowed me to just keep going and I was working full-time. So working full-time and going to school part-time was a flip in the tradition of going to school full-time and then getting a job afterwards.

Speaker 2:

Dee, please tell our listeners one thing, if only one, because I'm sure there's many great things that they should remember about DMX consulting.

Speaker 3:

I have actually done the work. I don't base the advice that I give, the tools that I use and the classes and assessments that I select on theory. I based it on experience that I've achieved and obtained throughout my career. So when I tell you, the main feedback I get back from my classes and my sessions is applicable in real world. Like it's not theory, it's immediately applicable and useful after they finish.

Speaker 2:

And how can our listeners learn more about DMX Consulting?

Speaker 3:

Thank, you for asking Sophia. They can find me on social platforms, at DMX Consulting and, the most important place, you can log on to my website, which is DMatics, spelled out consultant. So three words D-E-E, maddox, second word and third word, consulting. No spacescom, so you can find my podcast episodes there, youtube, how to use and book my services and how to even get a risk-free consultation.

Speaker 2:

Well, dee, I really appreciate you being on the show. We wish you and DMX Consulting the best moving forward.

Speaker 3:

Thank, you Sophia.
