Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

Speaker 3:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a law firm? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, Eric Ghaly, with Ghaly Law Firm. Eric, how are you doing today?

Speaker 2:

I'm doing wonderful. Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 3:

Of course it's my pleasure. We're excited to learn all about you and your business. Can you tell us a bit about your law firm?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I am a guide to help families in the process of admitting their loved ones into a nursing home. I help them qualify for Medicaid, thereby saving families significant assets, their loved ones' home, etc.

Speaker 3:

And how did you get into this business?

Speaker 2:

I've been a CPA since 1993, so almost 30 years and I've been a lawyer almost 30 years as well. I've dealt with compliance issues with the Internal Revenue Service, with the Securities Exchange Commission and now, in the second half of my life, I really wanted to help people and find resources to help them pay for nursing home care.

Speaker 3:

And what are the myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 2:

Some common misconceptions are families think that they have to sell their loved ones, which might be a parent, that to sell their home and exhaust all their assets in order to pay for nursing home care. Nursing home care can run upwards of like $8,000 a month, upwards of like $8,000 a month, and by qualifying them for Medicaid, medicaid will pay that $8,000, or a significant portion, and thereby leaving more assets for families. It's kind of a it's neat, not a neat concept. It's never neat to have to admit somebody into a nursing home, but giving them the ability to save their mom or dads, or both, assets once they unfortunately pass, which is just a nature of life. You know, everyone is going to someday face an elderly parent that needs additional care, and the additional care comes from nursing homes because there's a point where you just can't take care of them anymore.

Speaker 3:

And outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 2:

I love fitness. If I'm not working, I'm either with my kids. I have two kids One is on staff at Life Fellowship Church and the second one is a wrestler, and so wrestling season is coming up up, so it'll be real fun let's go ahead and change gears for a second.

Speaker 3:

Can you describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say because of it, you're better and stronger. When I say that for you, what comes to mind?

Speaker 2:

what immediately comes to mind for me is I've recently been a victim of identity theft. I don't wish that upon anybody, but it's a hardship and you know you just got to keep moving forward. That's what I like about my when I'm not working. I like working out because I enjoy the grind. I guess you could say and it was a hardship, but we're getting through it one day at a time.

Speaker 3:

Hey, moving forward is all that matters, right?

Speaker 2:

Yes, moving forward.
