Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sofia Yvette.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of an event decoration company? Surprisingly, we'll see that you do. Today. I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, marisela Morantes de Pierda. Marisela, how are you doing today?

Speaker 3:

I'm doing great. Thank you for the invitation, Sofia.

Speaker 2:

You're welcome. You're welcome. We are so excited to learn all about you and Baloonistic. Can you tell us a bit about your company?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and so this idea was created to be a resource for everyone. You know, sometimes at work they ask you to find people to decorate a space for a certain thing, or you're a busy mom how I was, and you don't find the time to decorate by yourself and make it look like amazing, like the social media. So, um, I have some skills and I like to be creative and I, I have this skill of kind of like just create, uh, these amazing decorations, uh, and so that's why I just went and started doing this to help to decorate events, mainly with balloons or with all the other stuff that is in the market now, like shimmer walls, like anything you can think about.

Speaker 2:

And what are the myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

Well, we have a big fight these days with what Amazon and Etsy can show you, right, because that's the first place where all the moms and people go to find decoration, find decoration. So when they see that is like, oh, this kid that will make me brings 150 balloons, it will make it look like the picture. And that is the first misconception because, uh, it won't, that kid won't give you that final result if you don't have like the knowledge to how to do it. Right, you can kind of like watch some youtube videos and you can make something similar, but it won't look the same. So, um, so the misconception is that if people that think that is like an easy job, that is just a like blow and ready and stick it to the wall, so yeah, it's a.

Speaker 3:

It's a common thing that I want this, but why is it costing so much? And it takes time. It takes like a lot of planning. Um, I can make the 3d. You know, not 3d designs, but a digital sketch to show you how will look your decoration at the end. Or, if it's something that we're creating from scratch, you make it look like super good.

Speaker 2:

And what is the average time that it takes to put the decorations together to actually having the event? How much time do you need?

Speaker 3:

well, it has several stages, right. So we start like saying that you send me a picture that you want something for your birthday and we start planning. So you want this and these add-ons, like a wall, you want balloons like a wall, you want balloons, but you want also a neon sign. So we start planning how many elements do you want for your decoration? And, of course, the quoting, the, you know, the back and forward, uh, the prices and all that. How many things you want. Where do you want it? It's outside or inside? Um, because outside the balloon doesn't like too much.

Speaker 3:

The outside it's so much that we have to think as decorators. Uh, the weather, you know that weather here in texas is crazy. In the morning, like today, was 64 and I'm sure the afternoon will be and I'm sure the afternoon will be 90 something or 80, you know. So those changes, balloon doesn't like them. Helium, oh, so many things. So it takes me for prior to the decoration. It takes a few days because I have to get everything together. I have to make sure everything is good, painted is like well, to don't fail at the day of the decoration and to set up it will depend. Usually takes two hours average to just put like a full decoration. Yeah, that probably for one wall, for example, but it takes days. So it's the balloon shopping, because the quality of the balloons is super important, and the decorations as well. So it's a lot behind the scenes of that decoration that is brilliant.

Speaker 2:

Outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Well, it's pretty fun. I have two boys, a three-year-old and a five-year-old, so I'm being fully dedicated to balloonistic. In the last five months or so I was working before that that like full-time job, so right now I'm dedicated to the house, I'm a housewife, I help my husband with his company and, of course, dedicating time to the kids that is super important is amazing. So, being a full-time mom, being a full-time housewife and yeah, you know it's, it's, it's already another job. So, yeah, I mainly just hang out with my family. That's what I do, my my fun time.

Speaker 2:

Well, family is always important. Let's go ahead and change gears for a second. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say because of it, you are better and stronger. When I say that, what comes to mind for you?

Speaker 3:

well, um, several things. Uh, I've been. I have like a life change when we moved to united states but that was not as hard as after kobe. Um, I found myself myself kind of like PTSD after COVID. I lost my smell and taste for two years. So I kind of like realized that during that time, after that time, I had some postpartum depression between my kids. Even with the second I wasn't sure I wasn't feeling well. So after therapy I always I also realized that I was an OCD person. So it's so many you know things happening at the time and realizing that my mental health was not well. So that is the hardest thing, harder than this change the entire life, moving from one country to another, um, so that is being a lot of. Uh, my first, um, my main goal is to be in a stable person as a mom, as a person like I say, so I can get with anything in life. Nothing will be hard after just finding myself being healthy inside.

Speaker 2:

Maricela, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Balloonistic.

Speaker 3:

Well, one thing is that I laugh about this because we came up with a conversation with a friend that Balloonistic, we were trying to find the you know the slogan and she told me like you just have to say that it's not your mom's balloon, you know, that is not like mom putting the things together. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm throwing in there. So it's. It's just an artistic way to make balloons and decorate. That's what they have to think that at the end they will see is like whoa. I love to see those faces that are happy with the results and just it's. It's. It's another way of helping. I love to help.

Speaker 2:

So, and how can our listeners learn more about balloonistic?

Speaker 3:

Well, I, I post everything on my social media, mainly Instagram, facebook, google. Google has been a big resource. It's kind of like a trust way of like people can like just read other customers and and kind of like see but my photos and everything it's on instagram. It's called valunistic events. It's right, it's written as a balloons, so double o double. L is thick as an artistic and yeah, events at the end, so valoristic events.

Speaker 2:

Well, Maricela, I really appreciate you being on the show. We wish you and your business the best moving forward.
