This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a health care company? Surprisingly, one may be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to your neighbor, dori Bice, with Agents for Life. Dori, how are you doing today? Hi Sophia, I'm doing great. Thank you, awesome. Well, we are so excited to learn all about you and your business.
Speaker 3:Can you tell us a bit about Agents for Life? I sure can. So Agents for Life is a insurance company. We focus on health insurance and making Medicare easier for anyone out there who needs help.
Speaker 2:How did you get started in this business?
Speaker 3:Funny story about that. I started off with State Farm property and casualty. I also was taxed with the job of doing health and life. I was the only one in the office that would do that and I just got really good at it and I really enjoyed talking with the people. So I decided I wanted to specialize in helping people navigate those crazy Medicare mazes that are out there, and so I left and went to a carrier mazes that are out there, and so I left and went to a carrier.
Speaker 2:And with healthcare insurance being such a diverse company, what are some of the most popular myths or misconceptions in your industry?
Speaker 3:So I love this question. I think the most popular myth, or the one that I hear the most, is that when you go on a Medicare Advantage plan, that we are stealing your Medicare. And that is absolutely not the case. In fact, you have to have both Medicare Parts A and B in order to be eligible for a Medicare Advantage plan. So the Medicare Advantage plan has another name, called a Medicare replacement, which throws everyone off, and what we're replacing is their Part A and Part B deductibles with a zero deductible.
Speaker 2:And what is the advantage for them of going that route?
Speaker 3:It helps them to be able to budget. They can see up front what their co-pays are going to be prior to even utilizing any of those. So, going forward with a particular doctor's visit, for example, they can look up and see that, what their co-pay is going to be. If they have multiple visits that month, they'll know ahead of time how much they're going to be spending.
Speaker 2:And outside of work. When you're not helping clients, what do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:Well, I don't have a whole lot of outside of work time. I spend most of my time at work, but when I do, on the rare occasion, I like to spend it with my children. My daughter is in marching band, so I'm a chaperone, usually for her Friday night, football games and competitions, and we like to go hang out at the swimming pool or go watch a good movie.
Speaker 2:And let's go ahead and change gears for a second. Can you describe one hardship or life challenge? You rose above and can now say because of it, you're better and stronger. When I say that, what comes to mind for you?
Speaker 3:Well, I definitely can, and this is a little bit a little harder. Um, I came from a very volatile uh relationship. I was married and um a long time ago. That relationship has now been dissolved, but it was very violent. I wasn't sure I was going to make it out and um lo and behold, I did. I have survived. It's taken a long time, and being able to help other people was actually very therapeutic for me.
Speaker 2:Wow, well, what a blessing that you're here talking with us today, going through such trauma. Dory, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Agents for Life listeners one thing they should remember about Agents for Life.
