Five records at Trusty Spot Records and Tees.
Well, well you're back for episode two. Welcome to five Records at Trusty Spot Records and tees. I hope you enjoyed the first one. We got some good responses, so we're going to keep going every Monday. I think most of the stuff that we've put up in last week's video sold, there might be a couple things left, but just so you know, one thing I didn't mention last time is that there will be links below in this video for you to purchase anything that I'm showing in the video though, so you can buy it straight from us. If you're not local here in Chesterton, Indiana, that's okay. We ship so you can get it on the old website of Rooney and we'll send it through the US Mail. So let's get started. All right. Firstly, but not firstly, Yukihiro Takahashi Neuromantic, released in 1982.
So this guy is a Japanese musician. He was a pioneer of electronic music, first made kind of world famous. He was the drummer for this band, and I think he sang in it too, in this band called Yellow Magic Orchestra. That was, they were international. They did big stuff in the seventies. So Yukihiro also did some solo records. This is one of 'em. If you like New Wave, you like electronic music. If you like early eighties video game sounds, then you probably want to hear this record. It has such a good electronic new wave. Eighties feel perfect for fans of like Devo and Talking Heads. Maybe the more mellow parts of Devo and Talking Heads nonetheless, but also Roxy Music. You like Roxy Music, you'll probably dig these guys. You like Mario Brothers. You'll want these guys, this guy. If you like Mario Brothers, you'll probably like Yukihiro as well, because there is some.
Sounds like that. This record is super cool. Highly recommended. That's number one. Number two, Matthew Logan Vasquez's. This is Matthew Logan Vasquez does what he wants and he really does do what he wants. This was released in 2017, singer songwriter Texan. He's the front man for a rock band, an indie rock band called Delta Spirit. It's been around for a long, long time. They have a bunch of records. They're super cool. This record really sees like Matthew doing his own thing. When it says does what he wants, I kind of take that as spanning and cross genres because you hear a little bit of everything on this record. This guy has such undeniable street cred, the people he's compared to. It's ridiculous. Definitely somebody that you should be listening to lyrically crazy, crazy sound lyrics are awesome. This thing, I mean, it's hard for me to, if I had to say, if you like anyone from Wilco to Tom Petty, to Band of Horses, to Deer Tick, to Ryan Adams, to Townes Van Zandt, to Mark Bolen from T-Rex.
Those of you that know me know I love Mark Bolen, so maybe I hear that in too much stuff, but whatever. If you like any of that stuff, then you should check out Matthew Vasquez's record because, and all of this stuff really, because that's going to be going to be in your wheelhouse, I think. Great record front to back. Check it out. Ooh, Goldmund sometimes. Alright. Released in 2015. Oh, I'm getting breathy. Oh my God, I get so excited making these videos. I had no idea I was going to be a famous YouTuber. Look at me. Go. So anyways, Goldmund, this is Berkeley grad. Keith Kennif. So he releases stuff. He's a multi instrumentalist he's a composer. He releases stuff under several different names. He even does stuff with his wife. They do all kinds of cool music licensing for film and tv. But the Goldmund stuff that he does is basically solo piano stuff and it's beautiful.
You'll see this described as modern classical and things like that. Don't let that scare you. If you're looking for moving ambient instrumental piano pieces, this is the record for you. Also, this thing is getting harder and harder and harder to find. I would highly recommend you grab it while you still can't. Alright, gone. Okay, so this is Gone's. Let's get Real, real Gone for a Change. This first came out in 1986. The record title apparently was a quote that Elvis said back in the Sun Studio sessions back in the day. I don't know if that's true or not, that's the story. But Gone is, do you know who Greg Ginn is? He's the founding member of Black Flag. Still I think the only member of Black Flag, but is one of the original, also the founding guy from SST Records. So one of the biggest record labels ever.
Legendary, right? So many punk bands are on there. It's amazing. So Greg put this together with a guy named Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain. It's a three piece instrumental, avant-garde, experimental noise, kind of punk kind of alternative, just rock record. It's cool as hell. So they didn't do too much. At some point, Greg ended the Gone Project. Andrew and Sim went on to the Rollins Band. So clearly there's a pedigree there of some pretty solid guys that are on this thing. This is not an 86 copy of it. This is a reissue. It's on a splatter vinyl. It's beautiful. I don't know what year it was made. I couldn't find the year on it when it first came in. I don't think anybody recorded it anywhere. I don't know, but I assume it's fairly recent. It's in beautiful shape and I've listened to it. Super cool.
Check it out. Okay, lastly, but not Leastly number five. Now this one, some of you are going to be like, what? But trust me on this record, this is Gary McFarland's today. So this is 1970. Gary McFarlaned played the Vibraphone. He was a vocalist, he was a conductor, he was a writer. He had his own record label. I think this is On Yes Skye Records. That was his label in New York City. So this dude, he's an old school weirdo and I loved him. Unfortunately, Gary died at like 38 years old back in not too long after this came out under mysterious circumstances, drug overdose. Some people say his drink was spiked, could have been a murder, and we don't know. We'll never know. But it would've been cool to see what Gary would've done even after all of this. He had a pretty amazing career as it was.
But this record is like jazz meets easy listening, meets spoken word. It's just, it's awesome and it's perfect for date night or you're having a dinner party or you just want to melt into the couch. It's real mellow and cool. There are songs on here that were either made Famous by or written by Leonard Cohen, the Beatles, Harry Nilsson, Stevie Wonder. It's just so good. His rearrangements of some really popular songs are pretty cool. When you first throw this thing on, you might be like, is he kidding? I'm not. Stick with it. And I think a lot of you will love this record. I love this record. This one's hard for me to sell. I have a backup copy though, so it's a weirdo. I have like eight copies of the same record with some stuff. I got problems. But that's it. That's our five records this week here at Trust Spot Records and Tees, again, links for all these Bad Boys will be in the description below. And we thank you for watching Goodbye.
