Speaker 1:

Welcome to the First Media Consulting Podcast, the Business Chronicles, where we dive deep into the stories of successful business owners. Here's your host, Didi and Nicholas. Thanks for joining today. Let's talk.

Speaker 2:

Hello everyone, Welcome to our podcast. I am so excited to introduce to you Romy, and she's the owner of Kitchen Tune-Up Orlando, Southeast. How are you today?

Speaker 3:

Romy, I'm good, how are you? Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you're very, very welcome. You know it's so interesting to find and to learn about the different perspectives of how people got into the business and to learn a little bit about you know our guests and their business. So as a segue into that, tell us a little bit about your business.

Speaker 3:

Well, you know, we are a kitchen remodel company, so we can remodel the kitchen, we can do many services. We can paint, we can reface, we can do cabinets, we can help with all the space, like flooring, everything. So we understand the need of our clients and we see everything and we're very customer-centered and that's it.

Speaker 2:

Well, it's interesting. You mentioned the word refacing, right, and when you're remodeling a kitchen, I guess there are a few different options that a customer or someone who's interested in remodeling a kitchen has an opportunity to do, whether it's painting or refacing cabinets, and I think those are two popular methods that I kind of want to share with our listeners a little bit about how that process works. So can you give us an idea? Maybe you know whether it's more cost effective to go into? Let's start with painting cabinets. Let's talk about some of the pros and then we'll go into some of the cons, and I know some of the pros include the cost effectiveness, the variety of colors, as well, as, you know, making sure that you are picking the right features for your kitchen, correct? Can you go into that a little bit?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, sure, that is a very nice question. You know, usually we go to the houses and the people they say I'm very open to suggestions, please help. So it's funny because they know they want to change their look of their kitchen. Sometimes, if the cabinet is in a good shape and if they want something fast, we can paint. This is it takes two to three days. It's very fast, we will do it quickly, but doesn't last too much. It's not like very durable.

Speaker 3:

So sometimes, when you want to sell your house but you want to refresh your look, or maybe you are tired from the color of your dated kitchen but you don't want to invest too much, so paint is a good solution. Now, if you want to change your style, like you want to go for modern style, you want to go for full overlay that sometimes you don't have you want to change for thermofoil doors, you want to change material or you want to go for other style, we can replace. Still having your cabinets will change your door and then you will have another change which is a little bit.

Speaker 2:

it's more expensive than painting, but it's another change so that's basically what we're talking about is refacing cabinets, correct?

Speaker 3:

yes, refacing cabinets. So refacing will will replace the door, will have new doors. So that's why you can change your style. You can go modern, you can go four overlay, because there will be new doors, but we'll keep your cabinets.

Speaker 2:

And, with that being said, you know there are doorknobs that really accentuate the cabinets themselves. Can you explain the different types of doorknobs, Arthur?

Speaker 3:

themselves. Can you explain the different types of door knobs are there? Yeah, that's for sure. Usually we like to suggest like the, the knobs or the handle can be like 30, like 30 percent of the size of the door. So sometimes you have huge doors and then you'll have like a knob, like small knob. You say, oh my god, there is something missing here. Like you need like personality here. So you will add like a big knob and a handle for for things like that and you can change the color. It will give a touch to your kitchen.

Speaker 2:

And let's talk about some of the latest trends in terms of colors for cabinets are the when you're, when you're working with your customers, what do you see the most colors in a kitchen now?

Speaker 3:

You know that, like a few months ago, like everyone wanted white shaker, white shaker. Now things are changing. Like we have this grayish, like beige and gray together, and now people are asking for natural wood color, which is very warm and it's nice for kitchens, you know. So it depends on your style. If you're classic, you will go for wood. If you like more modern, you go for solid colors.

Speaker 2:

And I guess it all depends on, too you know your appliances right whether you're going to get black, whether you're going to get stainless steel, whether you're going to go with the white yes or whether you're going to have the cabinets that are. Uh, how do you say this? It's like the, the refrigerator you open. It's like part of the cabinet, right, you open yes the open, the, there's that refrigerator standing there, kind of out of sight, out of mind. Do you see that taking place as well?

Speaker 3:

Yes, this is taking place, but this is like for more like high-end kitchens, because we look like you know it's better. You'll have like the same line. Nothing will cut your, your color.

Speaker 2:

It's beautiful, I like it and and what are some of the the cons? We talked about a lot of the pros about refacing cabinets. What are some of the cons? That and I know it's probably from a cost standpoint professional installation. Can you give us a few pointers on that?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, If you compare refacing with painting, refacing is more expensive, that's for sure. But if you compare it with having new cabinets, it's cheaper. So it's like in the middle. The thing is like you cannot reface if your cabinets are not in good condition. You I mean you don't win anything if you change your door but your cabinets are falling apart wow, that's interesting too, because you know, when you look at the refacing versus painting.

Speaker 2:

You said the cabinets have to be at least in good condition in order to reface, yeah, so I kind of want to jump off topic a little bit here, but when it comes to rental properties, I'm sure you do those as well. Do you see them, uh, doing more of a refacing or that you see them doing? You know, painting the cabinets?

Speaker 3:

that that's for rental. If you're planning to be making, like often, something to the kitchen, so paint it, because when the tenant will go you can repaint. If in the under condition you will have it like new. It will be cheaper, it's nice, but when you want to keep it for a longer time, so even if it's rental, we'll go for refacing because you can choose thermofoil doors Like they will last forever, they have warranty for 12 years and I mean they are very good. But you need to have very good cabinets for that. So sometimes if the cabinets are damaged, so we'll go for everything new.

Speaker 2:

Very good point. So what is one thing you want to leave our listeners with that really stands out, that you come across all the time, whether they're making a decision to reface or whether they're making a decision to paint. Is there something that really stands out?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean if you are happy with your door styles, paint, if you want to change the doors like you want to have like modern look, or you want to go more classic, or you want to have full overlay, or you want to just change your style. So if your cabinets are in good condition, reface.

Speaker 2:

And if you want to change the layout and everything or your cabinets are not good, so let's go for custom cabinets everything or your cabinets are not good, so let's go for custom cabinets and I like, how you said earlier, that there's a 12-year warranty on on refacing cabinets, depending on the product that you use correct depending on the door, if you go if you go with thermofoil doors like they are for they are like.

Speaker 3:

They are not painted door, they are thermof foil, it's a kind of material. They will last for 12 years and the warranty, and then they will not scratch, they will not peel. It's a new technology. So for rental property it's something like it's attractive.

Speaker 2:

Well, this has been such an exciting segment learning about your business and learning the difference between refacing and painting of cabinets. I think it brings a lot of value to our listeners when they're deciding on what to do with their kitchen cabinets, and I want to thank you so much.
