Is the firing of Jets coach Robert Salah after a 2-3 start a hasty move, or a necessary shake-up? This week on the Captain's Log Podcast, I tackle this provocative question as I break down all the action from NFL Week Five. From the high-octane Thursday night clash between the Buccaneers and the Falcons, spotlighting the dazzling performances of Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins, to the Vikings' triumphant display in London against a struggling Jets team, it's a whirlwind of football excitement. Despite the possibility of the Jets acquiring Devante Adams, skepticism looms over their season prospects. And as my admiration grows for the Falcons and Lions, my allegiance to the Commanders remains unshakable.

Join the fervor as I revel in the Commanders' impressive four-game winning streak, with the Browns left in their wake. This newfound momentum fills me with cautious optimism for a possible playoff berth, especially with a crucial Beltway Battle against the Ravens on the horizon. It's a heartfelt ride, filled with unwavering belief in the Commanders' ability to secure at least 10 wins and even challenge for the NFC Championship. Engage with my insights and share in the joy of this thrilling football season, as I navigate the highs and lows together.

Speaker 1:

yummy. All right, folks, we're back in the lab, we're back in the studio. This is the captain's law podcast, home of your weekly sports, nfl, nba and other random stuff news. Welcome back. This is episode five. Today is, what is it? October 8th, october 8th at 12 30 pm on a telework day. Man, I had to come in here and record. It was a very, very exciting week in football.

Speaker 1:

Today's topic is going to be week five recap. Of course. Uh, jets fire coach Robert Salah after five games, beltway battle set up this Sunday between the Ravens and the Commanders, and also some questions from the community. Before we get started. As I always say, you know if you're new here, if you're not, you know if you're trying to be a part of the community. I only ask that you share, follow on all platforms, leave a review on your respected streaming site wherever you are listening. Um, it's been a busy week, man. Um, I really wish that I could uh, just stay up late monday night and just record this and go ahead and throw it out so it'll be fresh Tuesday morning at midnight, but that's just not the case, so I'm doing it now. So, anyway, let's get into it.

Speaker 1:

Thursday night football, might, it might be the best Thursday night football game I've seen, outside of my commanders, of course. Uh, well, no, I'm sorry that was Monday night. Um no, this might be the best thursday night football game I've seen so far this season. Bucks versus the falcons. The falcons went 36 to 30. Uh, two of the best quarterbacks you know so far. This league faced off. Uh, did not disappoint, man. Um yeah, bruh, these are really good games, man. I like watching these games. Man, very offensive games, a lot of bombs getting thrown, a lot of touchdowns, just a lot of excitement. You know what I'm saying. You got Baker, you got Kirk. Who doesn't love Kirk? Man? Kirk, if anything, man, the motherfucker got a great smile, don't he? You know what I'm saying? Always got a good attitude, man. He gave you a Nance at the end. Baker Mayfield went 19 for 24. He had 180 yards, three touchdowns you know what I'm saying, two of those to Mike Evans, the old son of a bitch. That still got it. Bucks had a very balanced game. This game, though, very balanced play. They had a pretty good mix of running and passing. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Kirk Cousins went shit 48 for 58 for 509 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. I don't give a shit about the interception. He's the first quarterback so far this season to throw for over 500 yards, with 12 of those throws going to Drake London for 154 yards one touchdown. Darnell Mooney nine catches, 105 yards, two touchdowns. And even Kyle Pitts seven catches for 88 yards. So y'all can stop fucking leaving him for dead, saying oh man, where is he at? He got the ball this time. You know what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean with London and Mooney, you know, is he a valuable option? I mean, technically he could be somebody's number one, but right now he's number three or four. So his future for this team I'm not sure.

Speaker 1:

But bottom line is they won this game and it was fun, man. It was fun One at the end. And Kirk Cousins gave you a little swag and surf at the end, man. So shout out to the Falcons, man, the Falcons, they've grown on me. The Falcons have grown on me, just like the Lions. So those are my other two teams. I like to watch, outside of my commands, of course.

Speaker 1:

Then you had the London game. Why are we playing in other countries? I've still yet to get an answer to that. You had the Jets versus the Vikings. Vikings won 23-17. The Vikings are still fucking undefeated. Let's give them a clap. Nope, that's the wrong one. That's the wrong one. There we go. I'm about to just take them other two buttons off because I don't use them Anyway. Vikings are still undefeated. What the fuck, sam Donald? 14 for 31, 179 yards and interception. Vikings didn't even play that good on the offensive side, but it didn't matter, because Aaron Rodgers went 29 for 54, 244 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. 54 throws Jeez, louise, listen for 54 throws. You bet they have about 400 or 500 yards. But that's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy stats, especially for a 40 year old quarterback man. Uh, that arm got to be burning. Had to put some ice on that bitch and shout out to gary wilson too that motherfucker dog game. 12 catches, 101 yards, one touchdown.

Speaker 1:

But then I wake up this morning and find out they fired the coach. What just fired robert salar. After five games, the team's got a two and three record. That's not a bad record, that's. That's not. That's not a a shitty enough record to just fire them. You know, I'm saying I could see if they was oh and five, or one and four, then yeah, okay, we're gonna have to get you up out of here. But five games, bro, like yeah, I could say maybe eight games. I would say eight games at minimum. Then you know I'm saying, if you want to, if y'all really doing that bad, you get rid of them. But I don't think this record validates getting rid of him. I think he could have played, play out the rest of the season. I mean, who? Let's just keep it a bean.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm saying whether they get devontae adams or not, who really expecting the jets to go that far this year? If they lucky they make the wild card. But I don't. I don't see a super bowl or or afc, uh, a championship caliber team, I don't see it. So I don't know, but I kind of felt like I seen this coming, bro.

Speaker 1:

Y'all remember that game when um aaron Rodgers came off the field and the coach came up to him, tried to give him a hug and Aaron like pushed him back, like chill the fuck out, type shit. That's when I knew like he ain't really feeling the situation. So my question for y'all is do y'all think how much of an impact do you think Aaron Rodgers had on that decision? Obviously, with his record. You know, I'm saying super bowl champion, super mvp. You know a very lengthy resume. You know I'm saying I'm pretty sure that they they asked for his input. You know I'm saying on whether they should keep him.

Speaker 1:

But five games I'm curious to know, like what, what's, what's, what is? I'm curious to know what it really is. You know I'm saying because five games is crazy, bro, like you ain't oh and five, you ain't one and four, y'all not playing that fucking bad. Like there's a couple of other teams that only won one game and they and their coaches ain't been fired or ain't even in jeopardy. So why, all of a sudden, you get rid of this guy? You know I'm saying defensive minded coach, but still, why? Why get rid of them? I'm curious, man, I'm gonna be following that shit.

Speaker 1:

Um, other games you got panthers and the bears. The bears won 36 to 10, as you should won. It should have won that game. The panthers suck ravens versus the bangles. Ravens won 41 to 38. Yikes, hey, the ravens are fucking dangerous, bro, like, like the Ravens are very, very dangerous.

Speaker 1:

We are looking at prime Lamar Jackson football right now 26 for 42, 348 yards, four fucking touchdowns and you got King Henry 15 carries, 92 yards and one touchdown. This was an exciting game, bro, and Zay Flowers over 100 yards with seven catches. Exciting game, bro, and they flowers over 100 yards with seven catches. This might, this might have been, this has been the best. This has been the best lamar jackson, uh, uh football that we have seen so far. This has been the best. Um, especially, which, which we can call for now, might be the play of the year with, uh, you know the the quarterback scrambling, scrambling, scrambling, stiff-armed the defender and still get up and still throw the dime for the touchdown, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So you know they got to play my team this weekend. Man, this is going to be the Beltway battle, you know, coming up this Sunday. I think they should go ahead and flex this game. You know what I'm saying, but you know what do I know? I mean, I don't know. I'll get into that later.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying shit about the Bengals' stats. The Bengals suck. I will just throw out there, though, that, my commanders, you know we smashed Bengals and you know Ravens only won by three. But you know Ravens only won by three. But you know who cares. The Texans win again. They beat the Bills 23-20.

Speaker 1:

Why do I have this on here twice? Okay, let's skip that Dolphins played the Patriots. Dolphins won 15-10. That's probably a boring fucking game. Commanders beat the Browns 34-13. And we'll come back to that last.

Speaker 1:

Raiders lost to the broncos 34 to 18. Cardinals beat the 49ers by 124 to 23. Giants beat the seahawks 29 to 20. Y'all see that crazy blow with it blocked a field goal and ran that bitch back last minute of the game. Any given sunday, bro, you just never know. I thought the seahawks is really gonna be like them this year, but I'm not seeing it. Then you got sunday night football. You had cowboys versus the steelers. This game started late as hell because it was some really heavy, heavy downpour going on up there. So, um, cowboys game looked boring.

Speaker 1:

You know, I feel like I feel like cowboys have like flip-flop with the commanders. Y'all remember when the cowboys had like this really really, really really high powered offense where they just couldn't be fucking stopped. Dac was putting up three, four hundred yards a game averaging, and now it's like they flip-flopped. So the commander's offense seems unstoppable and dac just seemed like he's just fucking struggling to just do whatever he needs to do. He went 29 for 42, 352 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. These are not bad numbers, but these ain't $60 million a year numbers. You know what I'm saying. So Justin Fields 15 for 27, 131 yards, two touchdowns.

Speaker 1:

The Steelers have lost two straight games. Y'all think they got a problem, y'all think they. Y'all think the Justin Fields thing is y'all still. Y'all still rolling with that. Listen, you know, the Steelers is not an organization that's about that losing. So they make them changes. So my question is if they lose again or the next, let's say they lose the next two games, do they reevaluate to to get Russell Wilson in the game? If I was him, I stay ready. I'm pretty sure he always does. But if they lose again I think that's going to be the next conversation is okay? Do they bench him? Do they swap him out for Wilson? Try to savage salvage. You know I'm saying whatever is left of the season. Who knows? Look, give me your thoughts on that.

Speaker 1:

Uh oh, and I had a question for the community which was so just, just just to give some context. When I do submit your questions for the community, I do that on my instagram. I'm probably going to submit. Start doing that on my threads as well. You can follow that on the bench with rob. All one word um, I'm really. This is really a more so recap version. So the person, uh, slam facts who submitted that question, he submitted it, uh, before the dallas game so maybe I just put put it in there too soon, but I like to give y'all enough time to to submit your questions. I don't want to do a monday morning because you know everybody don't see it or you know I'm saying, you know I, I take, I take the risk of losing out. You know reading out questions and giving my analysis, but when I post that that is recap only. So this is after the game, if that makes sense.

Speaker 1:

You got Monday night. You got Saints versus Chiefs. Chiefs won 26-13. The Chiefs were shutting that run game down. Man, they couldn't do nothing. Derek Carr was 18 for 28, 165 yards, two touchdowns, one interception. Alvin Kamara only had 11 carries for 26 yards. That was it, and shout-out to Rashid Shahid. I hate to say that slow Four catches, 86 yards and one touchdown. That boy ran a clean-ass route, had the defender in a blender for a wide open runner to the touchdown and you know the chiefs was looking like the chiefs, I mean.

Speaker 1:

Pat mahomes 28 for 39, 330, 31 yards, one interception, two, two injured running backs? No problem, let's bring old kareem hunt back. He gonna give you 27 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown. Juju Smith-Schuster, welcome back. Seven catches 130 yards. Travis Kelsey way to stay ready. Nine catches 70 yards. Man, look, kelsey was getting them catches early and we didn't have to get no damn. Taylor Swift cam to almost halftime, so I was happy about that.

Speaker 1:

The Chiefs are still undefeated. The Chiefs and the Vikings are only two undefeated teams. They don't even play each other this year either. So, damn, I mean, who are they going to lose to? You know what I'm saying? I mean, look, the Chiefs is. At this rate, bro, injury or not, the Chiefs are probably going back to the fucking Super Bowl, bro, unless Patrick Mahomes get hurt, knock on wood. Unless he gets hurt, bro, I just don't see them losing man. I see this dude he throwing you know high-flying short passes, like he just out there just playing, just doing shit, man, and they just look unstoppable. And the defense man, the defense was showing out that front four was getting it done.

Speaker 1:

But what y'all think, man, who y'all think can beat the chiefs? Maybe the commanders? I don't know, I ain't gonna jump out there like that. They don't. We don't play them this year either. So let me get get to my commanders, man, let me first of all let me get claps to them. Claps to my team keep it up. My team gets extended clap because they've won four games in a row.

Speaker 1:

All right, my motto is beat the teams that you're supposed to beat. We were supposed to beat the Browns because the Browns are not that good, so we beat them and we was tanning Deshaun Watson's ass up. This motherfucker only had 15 for 28, 125 yards. He got sacked like seven or eight times. So I'm not not gonna complain about, uh, deron pain and jonathan allen.

Speaker 1:

I'm not gonna complain on y'all this week because y'all did, y'all think maybe, maybe we just need to the the chill and just let them do their thing. You know I'm saying but deshaun watson ain't been been, he ain't been playing good since that whole massage stuff. Man, you know that's what we got 220 mil, something like that, all guaranteed shit. Well, y'all better redo that. Um, but, man, my team is on a roll, but we ran the ball a lot. We got good, good production. All three of our running backs, man and my man, scary terry, four catches, 112 yards.

Speaker 1:

Listen, if anybody deserves what's going on outside of the fans. Of course, if anybody deserves what's happening right now, it is terry mcclearn. Bro, like for someone who's been so professional on the team, who've been on the team, who've been putting up a thousand yards a season for the last five seasons, going on six, because he's gonna do it again this year with like 12, 13 different quarterbacks, bro, no one deserves that shit more than him. Bro, like my team looks so good, bro, like I don't know whether they're like because we, because we've been such a bad team for so long, it's like I don't even want to really get into like super duper celebration mode. Like I want to because we just we're not used to this. We ain't used to. We're not used to winning four games in a row. We're not used to this. We ain't used to. We're not used to winning four games in a row. We're not used to scoring 40, 30, 40, averaging 30 points a game. What, bro, we used to? We used to playing games where we would get all the way down to the end and be losing by a field goal or we wouldn't really start playing to the last five minutes in the fourth quarter. So all of this shit is new to myself and the rest of the commanders nation. I'm pretty sure y'all can feel me on that. But this week we got the beltway battle man. We got the. We play the ravens in baltimore man.

Speaker 1:

Look, who the fuck do I need to talk to to get this game flexed to sunday night football. Nobody wants to see the bangles versus the fucking giants or the bills versus the jets. Nobody gives a shit why the bangles got all these, all these, these damn games. They stink. They only won one game. Let me get some water on that two seconds. Y'all. Make sure y'all drinking water too.

Speaker 1:

Look, this need to be a sunday night game, bro. I mean, I would even take a monday night. I'm gonna go to work tired, regardless. If y'all can, y'all can just switch that up. This is gonna be probably the best game. This is gonna be the hardest game that the, that the commanders will play. You know, I'm saying I mean on paper, this will be the best game, dog, and trust me, this is a hometown game. Well, if you went, if you're from the dmv or you're from baltimore, because they're not the same place, if you know, you know, um, this is gonna be serious. It's gonna be bragging rights right here. This is gonna be a bragging right game, man, and I'm sticking with my commanders.

Speaker 1:

I think we can win this game. I don't think we're gonna win by that much, but I think we can win, man, if we, if we win this game. I measure this game as how far can we go in the season with no injuries? I know I'm asking a lot with no injuries, but I could always hope. If we beat the ravens whether by us a little or a lot, I think we can go as far as the nfc championship game. Even if we lose the game, depending on how we play, I think we can still go to the nfc championship game.

Speaker 1:

I think the team is this good. If this boy playing as good as he is, he getting everybody involved. The defense is sharpening up, man. The defense starting to come around man, and we going to need them to keep on coming around the fucking block because every game you know what I'm saying Jaden, he might have a game where he ain't hitting and we going to need a defense to bring home for us. But I think that we can win this game. Bro, you have two electrifying quarterbacks, you have king henry, you have scary terry. This is gonna be a crazy game. I would love to go to the game, but y'all be acting up in the stadiums, man, I can't do it.

Speaker 1:

Um, question for the community from the community is it time to believe in the commanders after five games? And the second question is do the commanders make the playoffs? First of all, you're goddamn right, they're going to make the playoffs. Pending no injuries, we are definitely going to the playoffs. We're probably going to win the fucking division. Is it time to believe?

Speaker 1:

I mean again, man, we've been scarred, man, we've been scarred up so much that we don't know, we don't know how to, how to you know? Uh, to just sit back and enjoy or brag and boast. We don't know how to do that, but I believe in them, man, I do. I mean, I believe in my team every year. You know I'll be the only person who who'll be unrealistic about man, my team going to the super bowl every year. So I'd never not believe, except for that one season I took off, I was a free agent.

Speaker 1:

Um, I do believe that, um, that we're a great fucking team. Man, like I ain't gonna lie to you, man, like it just brings me joy that when I cut on, listen to my sports radio or ESPN, and, uh, stephen A and all of them, and, regardless of what's going on, it's kind of like. It's kind of like how, back when they was, they was talking about the cowboys. Even when they was some shit, they still was talking about them. Like every time I turn around, they talk about my commanders, man, they talk about oh yeah, yeah, man, bro, we we're a good team, so, regardless if we win or not, I'm still leaving it at nfc championship game.

Speaker 1:

Um, I'm still leaving it at we will win 10 games. They actually got us projected to win 11. So I'm going to stay with 10. But I am happy though, man, so I don't have any more questions for the community, but I will start posting that more places, because I do enjoy reading you guys' questions and I'm hoping you guys are listening for my response. But that's all I got for today, man, man, so I will dress this up and put this out later on. Love you all. Cap now.
