The 2015 film Everest is a survival thriller based on the true events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, it follows two expedition groups—Adventure Consultants, led by Rob Hall (Jason Clarke), and Mountain Madness, led by Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal)—as they face extreme conditions and a deadly blizzard. Inspired by survivor accounts, including Beck Weathers' Left for Dead, the screenplay is an original work. Filmed in Italy and Nepal, Everest received praise for its gripping portrayal of high-altitude peril. Though some critics found the large cast overwhelming, the film is now streaming on Netflix.
