Welcome to another In Wheel Time podcast, a 30-minute mini version of the In Wheel Time Car Show that airs live every Saturday morning, 8 to 11 am. Central Boy. You know what, If there was ever a way to cut it any closer?
Speaker 3Wow.
Speaker 1That's an award winner right there. I don't know how.
Speaker 4I'm not involved in this, but between David, don and Mike they seem to reach deep into their bag of tricks. Pull out a handful of pixie dust, sprinkle it all over this equipment and it works. That's what I see.
Speaker 1Did you record that?
Speaker 1I hope we're going gonna play that back welcome, incredible welcome to hewlett park in granbury, texas, and the lone star street rod association's 49th annual state run. This is the end wheel time car talk show. Just ahead, more attendees from this weekend's big show. Plus, we'll have our regular reviews, including new car reviews, jeff's weekly unique feature, upcoming events, the racing calendar and auto history all on today's In Real Time Car Talk Show. Howdy, along with Mike out of this world, mars, who's hiding behind a speaker over there, he's adjusting, he's making adjustments.
Speaker 1Well, okay, I'm glad that he's making the adjustments. We need more Jeff Zekin. He is next to me, and on the other side of me is David Ainsley, so we're having the Star Spangled.
Speaker 4Banner sung.
Speaker 1Let's listen. Can you pop that up? And our flag was still there. Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? That was beautiful, thank you, in honor to our country and our flag.
Speaker 1God bless you all for being here. We'll have a good time through the day. We have that freedom in our country that we can do these kind of events in honor of our country flag. For those of you that are participating, we're going to listen in on this for just a second. The shuttle will start running from the back gate and it will run continuously. Now he's just talking about homework, so we can continue on. We're waiting for our next guest.
Speaker 4We've got a car on stage, we do. Oh there, she is right there. Yes, but wait.
Speaker 1The ladies are waddling down here. I didn't mean that.
Speaker 4We got Tammy right there.
Speaker 1I know it's Tammy. Did you hear me? Did you hear me say that?
Speaker 4Well, I think Good, I'm glad.
Speaker 2I heard the waddling Because I would have gotten in deep trouble if somebody had heard that.
Speaker 4I'll repeat it if you want.
Speaker 1Ladies and gentlemen putting her Thank you so much.
Speaker 4Thank you, Tammy.
Speaker 1Yes, that's David. Just said it anywhere there, that's fine.
Speaker 4Thank you very much.
Speaker 1Are you going to be our guest? Oh, good Sit down.
Speaker 4Yes.
Speaker 1So, Leslie. Tammy Duley.
Speaker 4Kathy Tammy Duley, donna Tammy Duley. Yeah, becky Tammy Duley, becky dooly, kathy tammy dooley, donna tammy dooly.
Speaker 1Yeah, and this is tammy dooly becky, and you're a lovely wife kathy leslie becky.
Speaker 4Don, I don't think it's gonna go.
Speaker 3Yeah, I was gonna say that so apparently microphone pull it up tight apparently you are a big, huge star here yeah, you're something.
Speaker 4You're all that and a bag of chips, because we just heard all about you. Yeah.
Speaker 1And timing is everything.
Speaker 2I pay them a lot.
Speaker 1Exactly Well, tammy Dooley, we're up in your neck of the country, isn't it great? Thank you for having us.
Speaker 4Thank you for the breeze.
Speaker 2Hey, we've had rain for days and then this weekend is perfect, yeah it is yeah, yeah, but look at this, look at all these people. Is this not amazing?
Speaker 1it truly is. I mean, you know, in years past it's always been great, but I think this is a bigger show it is.
Speaker 2It is a bigger show yeah so, yeah, we're very excited they come into town and and everybody loves it. I mean, obviously you see the cars everywhere and people who don't know what's going on are like what's going on? That's cool. Follow the cars.
Speaker 3Yeah, we saw them at the restaurants.
Speaker 2Well we met your biggest fan, the former mayor of Ninh, Dan Hewlett. Is you talk about a rock star? He's great.
Speaker 1He is great.
Speaker 4He was mayor, I don't know how many years?
Speaker 110 years, okay great, so you know more than I do, and they named the park after him no, they did well, I think that wasn't he the one that kind of uh gave, gave you the the nod to come on in we, we need you and please come and work here he kind of probably got the ball rolling, and so that was great you were out in west te, from what I understand.
Speaker 2Yes, I was in Midland and I had a place here and he knew my background and we sold our company and next thing, I know, here I am and, you know, loved every minute. I was only going to work a year or two and Because I was really going to retire when we sold the company and I was too young that's at least what I tell myself.
Speaker 2Right Got to have something to do Right, right, so yeah, so it's been great and we've really done a lot. My background was managing convention centers and doing events and stuff, so it was a natural fit, and so the conference center here is part of my department and I just have so much fun with it and what is Tom slash, mike do? Well, what he did besides being your husband he's. He's now retired and he told someone last night at dinner he was my arm candy, so there you go.
Speaker 4Hey, that's just like us. Same thing with with us.
Speaker 1Yeah, where's Leslie? That's a good line for me. She's waddling up this way. She's waddling up this way.
Speaker 2Yeah, you're all waddling he is supposed to pop in. He had to go take care of a truck situation. His truck got dented with the last hailstorm and so he's getting a rental truck and blah, blah, blah.
Speaker 4So he's supposed to pop in somewhere down here and last year you had to leave because you're having a grandbaby. Was that last year?
Speaker 2Yes, yes, who will turn one on Tuesday?
Speaker 4There you go so.
Speaker 2I'm headed to Angel Fire Tuesday.
Speaker 4David wrote that down. He's got it in his diary.
Speaker 2Yes, to see my little Mike yeah.
Speaker 1Well, I'm her arm candy.
Speaker 2Okay, I love it. Yeah, I'm her arm candy.
Speaker 1Okay, I love it. Yeah, so she's a schoolteacher, so wherever it is that we go in Sugar Land, Texas, Ms A, Ms A, Ms A, Ms A. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4And.
Speaker 1I just kind of back away and go. Well, there she is.
Speaker 2No, that's great.
Speaker 1I know it is, I love to see it.
Speaker 2It's wonderful and you know Mike had a big career and he managed convention centers and venues his whole life and big arenas.
Speaker 1Is that where you met him? Yes, you met him at work.
Speaker 2I met him at work. You will laugh. On our wedding night he had Clint Black in concert and we went and ate Mexican food and he went to work and so we tell everybody oh my God, oh yeah, short honeymoon. We tell everybody that Clint Black played at our wedding reception and he did.
Speaker 3He did Because we were both there.
Speaker 1There you go, there you go. Did he bring you up on stage?
Speaker 2No, no, mike was working and I wasn't working in that particular industry at the time.
Speaker 3I was um working for hilton hotels doing convention sales and big events. So that was your wedding reception.
Speaker 2Yeah, you didn't have time for that we got married in his office by the county judge and it's been 35 years wow, so you're not old enough yes, yes 45 for us.
Speaker 4Oh, I love that. 45, I love that.
Speaker 2There he is. There's Tom, I mean Mike right there.
Speaker 4You've got to come around here.
Speaker 2This is my arm candy right here, come around here.
Speaker 1You know it's so funny. Ladies and gentlemen, the Dooley family.
Speaker 4The.
Speaker 2Dooley family.
Speaker 1Well, you know, know, it's uh, it's interesting because of all the years that we've been coming up here. We just heard about you when I told her I said yeah, you know what? I don't think you really. Yeah, that really is true and you know that we, I guess I have really kind of not made fun of, but brought you into the fold of our humor here and started calling you Tom Dooley.
Speaker 2So I don't know you as Mike.
Speaker 1In my world you're Tom.
Speaker 2Well, and Mayor said they kept calling him Tom and I told him no, it's Mike, it's Mike. And he said then I figured out what they're doing.
Speaker 4We even sang to you last show we sang to you. Well, that's the problem. A lot of people are, you guys are Well him.
Speaker 3I'm not yeah he's the one that brought it up, because he's old enough.
Speaker 2Mike hears that a lot.
Speaker 4Pleasure to meet you finally, I love all of you.
Speaker 3I watch what you do, especially when Tammy's on there. You've got a good show. Jamie's on there.
Speaker 1Well, thank you, and we appreciate her a lot and it's always a pleasure. You know, it's fun because I don't look at it Because this could turn into one big commercial and some people may say, well, it is a big commercial, well, okay, if you want to call it that. But this is really kind of like family, because there are certain people that are associated with us, whether they like it or not, that we've brought into the fold, and you're one of them and we feel really close to you and I know that Tom Mike would appreciate that, because we respect what you do and you've got a great personality and you fit with us. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2Well, you know, that's one of the really great things about what I do this weekend. It's all about these wonderful automobiles and Rick Neely and all of this we love, and then tomorrow it may be some other sporting event or whatever it is, and so it changes all the time. So we get to see all that, or a big fishing tournament or a big.
Speaker 4You know, we had a literally had a brain surgeon convention not too long ago so we weren't invited to that, but see what you say for that, all the activities going on, these ladies do that with us. It's like our little road show, our little circus going out in the community as well, not as large as yours and doesn't have as big an impact as yours, but we help, support as well.
Lone Star Street Rod Association Event
Speaker 2I know it's great. I told them what you said last night at dinner, that you were my arm candy.
Speaker 3Tammy's really modest she's maybe the best in Texas at what she does, that's what we heard.
Speaker 2I told you I pay these people. I pay these people.
Speaker 3No, I don't get paid. I'm an honest man.
Speaker 2You're the candy.
Speaker 1Once I bought, I stayed bought.
Speaker 1Well, I mean, I know that you're proud to have her as your wife, but she's, you know, a down-home, honest person and that means the world. You know a down home honest person and that means the world. You know, because, as you know, in our business and I consider broadcasting is kind of we all kind of in this self-promoting kind of thing or whatever it is that you're doing that there are certain people that you, you just you, go out and you attach yourself to because they're honest, they, they're fun to work with and it's a pleasure. And that's what this event and you've brought us to this event, the Lone Star Street Rod Association, we got a chance to meet you and it's just been really fulfilling for us. It makes it worthwhile, because this is the furthest we've ever traveled to do our show.
Speaker 1We've done lots of shows and this year in particular we've done a lot of remote broadcasts at various car shows across mainly around the Houston area. But this one is special. It takes us a while to get here, we work to get here and in fact I just got finished visiting my daughter in Denver, and so we had arranged it. So we drove to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, took the flight to Denver back here, then drove here with the car that we left at the airport. Now we'll drive back today, but you get it. I mean it's work, but it's not work, it's fun to do.
Speaker 2Well, and see, that's music to my ears, because all these people are doing, you know, something similar going out of their way to come to Granbury. They have choices, they can go anywhere they want and hopefully they have the best experience, and then they come back and visit all the time.
Speaker 1Well, you know, Tammy, it's funny because somebody asked me what's the deal with the car thing? What do you do? Well, you know, the cars are just the object, but it's the friendship and the partnerships. I would have not met him or any of these guys. Well, David, I've known from broadcasting.
Speaker 4She just met a student. Miss A just met a student.
Speaker 1There you go, and so it's one of those kind of deals where it's the camaraderie, it's the friendship, the people that you know that bring you all together. It's like going to a reunion party, kind of.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's exactly the same, you know, whether we're doing a dog show, whether we're doing whatever it is. That is the commonality brings the people here, and so we just appreciate it. We know that they have lots of places they can go, yeah, and so we just try to make this a good place for them.
Speaker 4And what a day. There's not a cloud in the sky.
Speaker 2we just try to make this a good, a good place and what a day.
Speaker 1There's not a cloud in the sky, nice breeze it's, it's so beautiful now are both of you comparing?
Speaker 3the last two weeks, uh, no, uh, midland well, we're not really from midland.
Speaker 2We were working working there.
Speaker 1Oh, where are you from? I grew up in oak cliff, so okay, and you I was uh army brat, so all over the world yeah my father was.
Speaker 4That's where she learned her skills all over the world.
Speaker 2Well, it does help um one year. You won't believe this. One year I actually had to move schools.
Speaker 2I was in, I think, sixth grade, seven times seven times one year and because my dad was shipped all over the place and so you learn real quick to. You meet a lot of great diverse people. You have to adapt. You make friends really fast and lifelong friends all over the world, and it was one of it was a privilege being a military. You know child, sure, yeah, and where's my brother, who is wonderful? Uh, he did the opposite approach, you know he, he didn't like to be pulled out of one situation and he was more one place forever. But I loved it. I loved it.
Speaker 1Yeah, because well, you're immersed in it from birth.
Speaker 2I guess.
Speaker 3You know Well we really want to, you know, just tell you how much this show means, because we've been in the business together. She's been on the promotion end and does a lot more than I ever did. But these kind of shows are visual shows and they bring people here to town and they usually have money to spend. Yeah, I mean, we're not. These things don't come cheap.
Speaker 4Right, correct.
Speaker 3So it's really good you came here.
Speaker 2We're proud of it. Yeah Well, we are proud to be here.
Speaker 1It's rolling art actually you know, yes, it is, and I learn something new every time I come. We were talking to a gentleman earlier that has a 57 Ford Fairlane, absolutely stunningly beautiful car. We'd never met him before and he drove in not too far from here and I told him. I said I've never been a Ford guy but that car and he was staying in the hotel with us and I saw it sitting in the hotel and Leslie will tell you I thought, wow, look at that car.
Speaker 1And then to tell the story about how he bought it, which was interesting because he bought it off of ebay what exactly, and he's the second owner and the second owner of the car. He bought it from a family that's a win yeah.
Speaker 1And it's been completely restored and customized for him, but it still maintains its original look, the paint is magnificent and he drives it everywhere, he doesn't trailer it and that sort of thing. And it's interesting because we started talking about the different styles of cars and I didn't realize it, but that particular car outsold the 57 chevy, which is a classic, an icon. It's a one-year only car, for the body style on it, um, you know, you hear the tri-fives the 55, 56, 57. That one behind you is a 56 and the 57 is completely different. They only made it for one year because in 58 it was a completely different body style and I didn't realize that it wasn't the number one seller in 1957 that ford was who was?
Speaker 4to think yeah, how do you find these things out?
Speaker 2by coming to these shows, exactly, well see that's great, because I know nothing about you're like talking a foreign language to me, right?
Speaker 1now, because I know nothing about automobiles, but it's fascinating.
Speaker 2And you know, I say all the time, when we have a car show like this, this is our largest one, but it's like conventioneers on wheels, because you know, that's what it is to us. And then I learn about automobiles that I know nothing about. You know.
Speaker 4I'm going to switch gears. How many folks live in Granbury?
Speaker 2What's the population of Granbury? It's about 11,000 here in town, but we have all these communities around Like we live in Pecan Plantation, and then there's Day, cordova, bend, and there's all these great like country club communities and they're all around us. So just right around us is about 75,000.
Speaker 1So, Tammy, let me ask you something. You got any cows in the backyard over at y'all's place?
Speaker 2I live on a golf course.
Speaker 1I see.
Speaker 2They don't allow cows.
Speaker 1So, it's either electric or gas. That's all you worry about over there.
Speaker 2Exactly Tonight they're having. What a big member tournament today. Is that what it is?
Speaker 3Member guest.
Speaker 4So y'all are playing in that.
Speaker 3No, I do, I just.
Speaker 1Are you not a golfer?
Speaker 3I love to golf. It's just hot and I'm busy and I work for her. Let's be honest.
Speaker 2You have to come make an appearance here today.
Speaker 4No, I like the melts in the sun you don't like that he appearance here today.
Speaker 3no, I like candy melts in the sun, you know?
Speaker 2hey, you don't like that. I remember that he's a fair weather golfer.
Speaker 4Yeah, well, I'm gonna go make a phone call, try to get a rental car done, but I really enjoyed meeting you guys thank you very much, mike. I enjoy when you rag on me on it's all love, but it's all good fun and love and we mean nothing but the best for it well, it's uh interesting guys.
Speaker 3it's good to have you here. Nothing but the best for it. Well, it's interesting guys, it's good to have you here. Thank you, it's a pleasure.
Speaker 1And Tabby, it's great to have you here with us today to see you in person, our once-a-year person-to-person kind of thing.
Speaker 2Well, and yes, it's great seeing you guys inside your little goodie boxes. We have the best swag in cranberry, so you have to open those up and uh, inside is so you can take with you your own cranberry socks oh yeah, we need we who doesn't need socks? Right, and they're cranberry, so you, you can uh think about it next year.
Speaker 1I'll wear them next year you know, I'm thinking about buying one of those too tight, too short suits and those socks would really set it off.
Speaker 4That lady had checkered flag pants. I know.
Speaker 1And that well, according to the person was, I guess, Vic Edelbrock's daughter.
Speaker 3Something like that, edelbrock.
Speaker 1You ever heard of Edelbrock?
Speaker 2You have not. It's an engine part.
Speaker 1Yeah, they make engine parts.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Aftermarket Very famous company and she very famous company and she had some checkerboard pants on that were really tight and I told her. I said I want those. Tell me where you got those, because I'd look really good in those you need all that.
Speaker 2I do need all that stuff every now and then,
Speaker 1I have been known to break out the pumps yeah tammy, it's great to see you.

Speaker 1Welcome back to the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show Today, coming to you from the state run of the Lone Star Street Rod Association in Texas and we've got a full Hewlett Park packed of really cool street rods. As a matter of fact, we're going to have another one of the owners with us here in just a moment. We have another one of the owners with us here in just a moment and really I don't have enough time to get going into anything. I do have our Hemings Sold Cars Roundup and I had one car in particular for you, jeff Zekin. Uh-oh, it's a 2006 Cadillac XLR-V.
Speaker 4Oh, xlr-v, that's a golfer's car.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's based on a Corvette that Cadillac tried to do, so it's got the Corvette chassis underneath it and it's got the Cadillac V-Series engine under the hood.
Speaker 4Yeah, I know all about those. It's a convertible. You see it right there. What year again?
Speaker 1This is a 2006. What do you think that? A 2006,. Beautiful silver. Looks like it's all stock now I don't know how many miles it's got on it, but it looks really nice. 42,000. 42,000. Mr Mars, what do you think that would be? 2006? Cadillac XLR-V?
Speaker 2It's a two-seat coupe, yeah yeah, I would go with 28.
Speaker 428?. What's your guess?
Speaker 135. 35. Okay, well, that's fair enough. Apparently Hemmings this car was sold on Hemmings last week for $24,150.
Speaker 2Oh, okay, that's right in your ballpark, jeff.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's one candle I kind of shy away from.
Speaker 1Why.
Speaker 4I just don't like the styling. I don't, you don't, no, jeff.
Speaker 1He wants a wagon. He wants a wagon. I know what it really is. You don't want to get that bald head sunburned.
Speaker 4Yeah, and all the hair blowing in my eyes and all that it happens.
Speaker 1That's what the real story is.
Speaker 4That's just not a good style, for me Is that a Studebaker?
Speaker 1Is that a Studebaker?
Speaker 4That is, that's a Studebaker pickup truck, that's so rare.
Speaker 1You never see them. That is a beautiful one.
Speaker 4American.
Speaker 1Graffiti yes, oh my God, it is American Graffiti. So these are the things that you're missing by not being here today. But next year.
Speaker 4You've got a year to plan, and next year is the big 50th celebration 5-0, baby and it's going to be bigger and better. We're going to wait here for it. Yes, we are, because we want it I think dave is going to retire out here, so that or the up.
Speaker 1You could do this. Yeah, the lake is right there there, there there, it's all around it's all well, actually it is yeah, it is kind of all around, but at any rate, this is a beautiful place and we're honored to be here to celebrate cars because that's basically what it is and all different makes and models and types and styles that you could possibly imagine. We got one on deck and these cars are all driven in here, so it's not just they're displayed but they're all looking good, isn't that milner's car could?
Speaker 4be milner milner's car.
Speaker 1All right.
