Show Notes

Join Rachel and Kate as they chat with Caleb Seguin about the history and mission of Camp Unirondack, youth empowerment, and supporting children's perspectives which are unique and entirely their own.

Caleb has been working with children and youth for over a decade. He is a director at Camp Unirondack, a summer camp for youth with a focus on social justice, intentional community, and youth empowerment. Caleb is also the owner and operator of Playful Pianos music studio for kids, and Project Lead at Northern Youth Abroad, helping Indigenous youth in Canada’s northern territories develop volunteer projects to serve their communities. He has spoken at numerous conferences, professional development forums, schools, and summer camps, and offers in-depth consultation on topics related to gender inclusivity, anti-colonialism, youth-centered behavior intervention, youth autonomy and privacy rights, and dismantling adult supremacy.

As an Indigenous person, Caleb’s work with young people is always informed by the Anishinaabe teachings that he grew up with. He draws inspiration from the core principles of Anishinaabe child-rearing in order to develop educational tools that examine youth work through a unique cultural lens. Throughout his youth work, Caleb maintains a commitment to fostering values of autonomy, community responsibility, levity, and honest, affirming personal growth. Caleb was born and raised in Canada, and currently lives near Albany, NY with his partner and his dog Pingo, and has a deep passion for jigsaw puzzles and peach cobbler.
