Speaker 1:

Temptation is a universal experience that every believer faces at various points in their life, whether it's the subtle lure of impatience during a stressful moment or the overwhelming pull towards choices that lead us away from God's will. Temptation can feel isolating. However, we must remember that we are not alone in these struggles. The Apostle Paul offers a powerful reminder in 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13, that we can endure temptation and that God provides a way out, reinforcing His faithfulness and love for us. Well, hello, my name is James Long Jr. I'm a pastor, counselor and university professor. Welcome to Lessons for Life, where I help people whose pain from their past or their present is influencing their perspective on life Through teaching them about a person, the Lord Jesus Christ, principles and promises from God's Word, and giving them a pathway for change. My goal is to guide you towards peace, hope and joy. In today's session, we will be exploring how God's truth can transform your life and how to experience the joy of forgiveness and freedom found in Christ alone. Well, the passage of scripture that we will be looking at today is found in 1 Corinthians 10.13. It says no temptation has overtaken you. That is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it. Here's the devotional thought In 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13,.

Speaker 1:

Paul addresses the common challenges of temptation head-on. He emphasizes that no temptation we face is unique or beyond what other human beings experience. This truth can be liberating, allowing us to understand that our struggles are part of a shared human experience. We often feel isolated in our battles, but recognizing that others have faced similar trials can foster a sense of community and accountability. This realization can be an important step towards overcoming temptation, as it reassures us that we are not alone. Moreover, paul asserts that God is faithful. This faithfulness is the cornerstone of our assurance during times of temptation. God not only knows the limits of our endurance, but he also provides a way of escape. This is not merely a passive promise. It is an active engagement by God in our lives. We can trust that he will equip us with the strength to resist the pull of temptation and the wisdom to recognize the alternatives he offers. As we lean into God's faithfulness, we begin to understand that the trials we face are not opportunities for failure, but for growth and reliance on Him. Lastly, paul encourages us to be mindful of the way of escape. This requires us to be spiritually alert and discerning. The way of escape may not always be immediately clear. However, when we earnestly see God's guidance through prayer and the study of His Word, we will find the wisdom to navigate temptations effectively. Rather than viewing temptation as an inevitable part of life, we can see it as an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God and strengthen our faith, bringing it home.

Speaker 1:

Here are three ways that you can apply this truth in your life. 1. Recognize Commonality when facing temptations. Remind yourself that you are not alone. Reflect on how others have overcome similar struggles and seek support within your community. 2. Seek God's faithfulness In moments of temptation. Pause and pray. Acknowledge God's faithfulness in your life and ask for the strength to resist temptation and to see the way of escape that he provides.

Speaker 1:

3. Stay alert. Cultivate a habit of spiritual vigilance. Regularly engage with scripture and prayer to sharpen your discernment, allowing you to identify the path that leads away from the temptation and towards God's will. Well, let us pray.

Speaker 1:

Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness in our lives. Help us to remember that we are not alone in our struggle and that you have provided a way out of every temptation we face, strengthen us to resist the allures of sin and to guide us to make choices that honor you. May we lean on your wisdom and discernment, knowing that you are always with us. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen. Well, thank you for joining me today.
