Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, Sept 16. This is Jeff Klein with your weekly reminder to take your faith and move it Beyond Sunday.

Jeff Klein  0:18

Years ago, when I was still driving kids to travel sports, I found myself in the car with my daughter and her friends on our way home from soccer training. They were a great group of kids (and very loud). They spent most of the rides singing popular songs from the radio, then eventually some camp songs about Jesus. But a couple of the girls just sat listening, not really joining in. Finally, one of them blurted out, "what religion are you guys anyway?" Hanny yelled out, "Christian!" Molly said, "Catholic." Emma told the group that she was Presbyterian. My daughter Morgan turned to me and asked what we were. I told her we were Protestant, but then explained how all this chatter didn't mean much. Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Presbyterian - none of it mattered. Only Jesus does.

The girls went back to singing their camp songs and I drove home wondering again about how we've messed up or cluttered up the gospel. How convoluted is it? How much has Jesus gotten lost in all our religion? How do you answer when people ask you what you believe?

Jeff Klein  1:21

Let's pray. Jesus, help us to understand and get the simple message of the gospel. When people ask, help us to give a simple answer that focuses on you. In your name we pray, Amen.
