Why did Jesus Leave?
John 14:26-31

1. We were made for Peace v.27

v.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.

Hope in fake gods not the real one.
The internet is my refuge
My house is my shepherd
My family is my light.
Comfort is my portion.
“Not yet” is my rock.
Alcohol is my strength.
Not failing is my salvation

2. The Spirit is our source of peace. 26-27

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

What does the Spirit do to give peace?

God is my refuge. Psalm 46:1-3
The Lord is my shepherd Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my light. Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my portion. Lamentations 3:24-26
God is my rock. Psalm 62:2
God is my strength. Psalm 73:26
God is my salvation. Isaiah 12:2

3. Peace has to be fought for.  27b

v.27b Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

What do we do when troubles and fear rise in us? Answer 4 questions.

1. What is happening?
2. What do I feel?
3. What am I believing?
4. What does God promise?

Philippians 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

4. God’s path to peace does not have to make sense v. 28-29

28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.

Psalm 112:7-8 He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.

Mental Worship:

1. If you were to release to God your two biggest worries what would they be?
2. What are you peaceful in now that you have learned to trust God for?
3. Who came to mind as someone who needs to have real peace?
4. If you fall for imposter peace, what does that usually look like?
5. Does anything need to change in how you relate to the Holy Spirit?
