Speaker 1:

Welcome to Sears Beers, knowers and Doers, a podcast about intuition. Do you know what that is? Intuition to me is that inner sense for knowing that something is true. And yet I have no proof. But there's so many definitions and there's so many ways it can come. I'm looking to bring together and share with you some amazing guests. You have some amazing life stories, and also some insights into how intuition can come, and I'm looking to gather those crows in the trees. I hope you're one of them. I hope that this podcast inspires you to be more connected to your intuition, and I hope that by doing that, we make the world a better place. Thanks for coming on this journey with me.

Speaker 2:

Before we get started today, I would love to share some tools with you to help with stress and feeling overwhelmed, especially for the energetically sensitive person. Feel free to go to my store on my website@www.healingvitality.ca. Thanks so much for coming on this journey with me.

Speaker 1:

So I'm super excited today because I've just spent the last 15 minutes talking with somebody that I feel like is a sister from another mother. Yeah. So thank you so much Fat Shandrika for saying yes to my podcast. I'm so excited to see what we're gonna bring to the world today. I'm already full of goosebumps.

Speaker 3:

I'm so excited to be here. And even just the last 15 minutes chatting with you sort of on a more kind of casual level has been so heart opening, and I feel like we've connected on so many levels. So I'm really excited to be here on the podcast and kind of opening that up for others to enjoy, uh, with us as well.

Speaker 1:

Yes, thank you. So I'm gonna turn it over with a very broad question. Can you please tell us about yourself, uh, so people can get to know you?

Speaker 3:

Okay. Yeah. There's a really open-ended one there,<laugh>. Uh, my name's Tini Chandrika, you know, and I've been a child of the earth and animals from infancy or before that I believe. I believe we all are. But I feel like I was really in touch with that part of myself from a really young age and was enamored by the animal kingdom before I could walk or talk. They were just everything to me. And, you know, I grew up in the city. I grew up in a quite a dysfunctional environment. I mean, I know my parents did their best, and I, I've moved far past any kind of like, blame or anything like that. That's all been worked through. But definitely it was dysfunctional and very dysregulated environment. So the past, you know, I'd say 25 years of my life have been really focused on regulation, you know, spirituality, just learning more about, about myself and, and about spirit and about how I can be of service to others. And really that has all, that has all kind of come through my own journey of healing. Animals. Horses in particular have played a huge role in my own personal journey of, of healing and spirituality and my continued journey of the same. And now for the past decade, I've been the steward of four horses who have also been my partners in a very incredibly rich, equine guided wellness practice where we sort of Mary principles of yoga and regulation through art and, and different mediums with the power and wisdom of horse to just help people on their journey. Like it's, it's, you know, I'm, I'm definitely a highly sensitive person and, uh, growing up in the, in the big city, in a dysfunctional environment, did a whole bunch of chaos to my nervous system. So being out in the country now, uh, having worked through all of these modalities and continue to for my own healing, uh, has really helped me to understand the folks that do find us, uh, at the farm and, um, helped me be of, of, you know, really, um, humble and benevolent service to them.

Speaker 1:

Wow. Before the call, you talked about something that I've gone through too, which is kind of like the previous life as far as a career is concerned. When did you get into animals, horses, you've had dogs all your life, you told me before the call, but how did horses show up?

Speaker 3:

So, horses showed up for me at a really young age in my dreams in books and movies mm-hmm.<affirmative>, I was always feeling a, a strong resonance with them. And they actually became an image in my third eye mm-hmm.<affirmative>. So they became this image for me. And actually, anytime I kind of think back to the really chaotic times of my life, I remember pulling on that image to kind of bring myself to regulation. So it's almost like I knew my future was gonna be with horses long before, um, long before I physically was with horses. Wow. Um, horses came into my life on the physical level about 20 years ago, uh, when I started to work at a thoroughbred, uh, racing farm on the weekends. So I had finished college and moved out of the city, uh, to the, um, to the suburbs. And, uh, now I was in a place where I could, you know, afford to kind of play around with this image of horses. So I kind of went on this journey of trying to find ways to be with them. And it started at a thoroughbred racing farm because I figured, you know what, I'll go and I'll, I'll work there on the weekends. I didn't have children or anything at the time, so it was just, just me, myself, and I. And I figured I'd go out there and work on the weekends and be able to be around horses and earn, you know, a little bit of extra cash. So that's kind of where it started. And then from there I started, uh, practicing some different types of riding and kind of going in and out of different Barnes. Nothing was really working for me, to be honest with you. Like, I was like two left feet on the back of a horse. Like it was just a nightmare.<laugh>. I was not meant to ride horses, that's for sure. But I loved being in their presence. So the gift for me of these writing lessons was really in like the grooming and the hanging out, and that was really where the gift was. And then in 2011, so fast forward quite a few years of meandering my waist in and out of different types of barns and whatnot. In 2011, um, uh, uh, a friend of mine who actually was at vet tech at our vet, our vet clinic where our dog went, she used to dog sit when we would go away for the weekends or, and in 2011 she had a Marin full. And I'll never forget, I said, oh my gosh. I was so excited. Like, that inner child in me was like, oh my gosh, a ba you know, full a baby. Please let us know when she's gonna drop the full. So she actually did, she let us know when the mayor dropped the full and within, you know, four hours we were there and we had this little guy and little Colt named, uh, well, he wasn't named at the time. She actually invited us to name him. My son named him. And that's really where the story of like healing with horses began for me, even though I know they were doing their work with me long, long before, when they were that image in my third eye of like, freedom and, and regulation and like emotional intelligence. Like in 2011 when this little cult was born was when the real journey began. We ended up adopting him a year later here. We were, you know, it was my husband, my son and I, and this one year old guy. And we went on this journey together of like learning about what felt right and what didn't feel right in our little world with horses. And that has, you know, I've been studying horses for 20 years. So from, you know, back in 2003 and probably even before that, doing a lot of research, reading a lot of books, uh, but around the time that our horse was born, his name was Snickers at the time, my son named him now, he had a, a renaming ceremony in, uh, when he was seven, I believe. And, and he was renamed spirit. And, uh, it was around that same time that I had heard of the work of Linda Kohan. And so I started reading all of her books, which, you know, turned into other books, uh, mark Rashid and Chris Irwin. Any book I could get my hands on really that had to do with something more than riding horses. Mm-hmm.<affirmative> was, was where my attention went. And, and yeah, it's just been incredible, like finding ways that felt right for us in raising this young colt, you know, as he moved into being a two year old and going through some of those phases of like rearing and striking and being a horse, having to find ways that resonated with us on how we were gonna work with that. We work with that energy. And it's very similar to my journey as a parent, to be honest with you. You know, my son is a highly sensitive individual, very bright, very much an empath. So his journey of growth looked very different from a very in the box type of child. And we didn't want to necessarily squeeze him into the bo you know, the institutional box so much like our, our horse spirit, they've grown very much side by side. And the horse has shown me so much about how to parent a child whose spirit we don't wanna break. Wow. My son's now a teenager and that's, it's quite incredible watching him navigate as a, as a teenager in that liminality and beside his horse who has also kind of stayed wild, if you will, uh, throughout being part of a human, you know, a human world with us.

Speaker 1:

Right. They're the first one that's mentioned parenting skills from a horse. I have many human connection, like please connect the dots here, people like with what this person's saying. Yeah. And you're the first one that's talked about parenting and I love it because there's so many highly sensitive kids and empaths on the planet, and that's what a horse is to me. That is their personality, I guess.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. And that's really what connected me with them, to be honest with you, Heather. Mm-hmm. It's like I felt like they understood me mm-hmm. Because I was always highly sensitive as well. And here I was, you know, I was on my own at the age of 15, navigating the big city streets and trying to survive and go to school and still meet the, you know, requirements of the institution so I could move forward with college and university and all of the things that I've done. But it was like, I was so sensitive and I hardly felt understood. So when I became a parent and when I realized that my son also carried the traits of a highly sensitive person and an empath mm-hmm.<affirmative>, which again, I do believe we all are in mm-hmm.<affirmative> some way. Yes. However, I believe that, you know, the, the world isn't necessarily designed for us no. Uh, to flourish in those ways. So that's kind of been my personal mission and professional mission is to create a space where we can not just survive as sensitive individuals, but thrive and live and remember our aliveness. Yeah. Even if the world is very much trying to fit us into a box. And I feel the same about horse society, right? Like Yeah. Like in a lot of ways horses are kind of sometimes even literally fitted into a box. Totally. Totally. Yeah. And, you know, how can we help them not just survive in, in a human, you know, influenced society, but how can we help them thrive and stay wild and, and remember their aliveness mm-hmm. In the confines of our fences

Speaker 1:

Current. Yes. We are on the same page. Just probably 12, 13, 14 years ago. My dog inspired me to have a kids camp called Intuit Kids, cuz I wanted kids who were, who were that kid that didn't fit in the box to actually be celebrated and given skills and tools and stuff. So we're on the same page. Girl, this is awesome.

Speaker 3:

I love that so much. That sounds like such a great experience for them.

Speaker 1:

Well shifting because I find too in what you just said about not just the parenting, but in your own healing journey with horses, that awareness that you were highly sensitive in the a environment that was dysregulating. Um, yeah. And I mean, how many horses are in that exact same circumstance? It's, it's really interesting that your purpose is horse and human driven. I love that awareness that you have, that it's mutual, it's driven. I love that. And I guess you came into the world knowing that you were intuitive and not necessarily supported in your environment in that way Is uh, or, uh, am I making assumptions there?

Speaker 3:

No, I think if that's very accurate. Um, the only, the only thing that is kind of neat about, even though the, the environment was dysfunctional and dysregulated is my mom was, is a very gifted intuitive. Okay. So although she was struggling, like she was a very young mother, three children by the age of like 20 very un unsupported in her world. Right. But the gift of her intuition, certainly I remember her intuition and I continued to relish in the moments of her intuition now in the present time. So although I I, I didn't really feel like I was getting what I needed in the environment, I definitely feel like I was understood in the sense of my intuition. So beautiful. Okay. I do feel like my mom like understood my intuition. I don't know necessarily that she knew what to do with it, like, because she was struggling with her own life. Right. But she did understand it. And, and there we did share so many like very sacred moments of like shared intuition.

Speaker 1:

Beautiful. Well, and this,

Speaker 3:

So that was helpful. That was very helpful.

Speaker 1:

Well it makes you think that you're not crazy, number one.

Speaker 3:

Exactly.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. And that's just to say we don't lose our intuition when we're dysregulated or in a dysregulated environment. In some ways it makes us more hypervigilant as far as our intuition is concerned, and that hypervigilant can turn on a whole bunch of gifts per se. Oh yeah. And then that healing journey of if people are inspired and hopefully they do get inspired by what you're talking about today, just continues to stack the bricks on that intuition and confirmation and following what works for you as you go down the journey. So tell us a little exactly, tell us a little bit about your current offering, the Red Barn wellness. Like tell us about

Speaker 3:

It. And I just wanted to touch quickly on your point about the hypervigilance, cuz that is such a powerful and important point to, to the intuitive, right? Mm-hmm.<affirmative>, because definitely when we're intuitive and sensitive and we're in an environment that's not conducive to that, it's very easy to become hypervigilant, especially, especially if there's a certain element of like survival mm-hmm.<affirmative>. So for me, I know there was a good four or five year period where it was just survival. So that did a number, like I said, on my nervous system, and definitely I remember how hypervigilant I was during those times. And I, and I still get triggered sometimes into hyper vigilance just because of the cellular memory of being hypervigilant, right? Mm-hmm.<affirmative>. So I ha every single day, you know, I am still very self-aware of where I'm going with my intuition. And I think that's so important. Like, it's such a good point and it's so important for, for us sensitive individuals to have these practices that kind of keep us very self-aware and very grounded in ourselves Right. While still practicing that intuitive, uh, aspect of, of our beingness. So the current offerings that we have, uh, they're, so I have two organizations. One of them is Red Barn Wellness Farm, formerly known as the Big Red Barn. We did a Covid move and after the move we were inspired to change the name. I just woke up one morning, I was like, it's not the name anymore. The name is Changed<laugh>. And so there who we were following the intuition. So it's Red Barn Wellness Farm, and we're located in Loretto, Ontario, Canada. The farm is more of like a local offering. So we offer things like yoga classes, children's camps, silence retreats, art workshops, different kinds of things. Obviously the sessions with the horses, equine guided wellness sessions and experiences for private or small groups. And then we have another organization called Awaken with Horses International. And that's our global outreach to help not only humans, but their horses on this journey of being of sacred service. So it's really important, like you had mentioned earlier when I said I love that I, I loved that you had noticed how important the wellbeing of the horse is in my practice. That was, I loved that you noticed that and that you acknowledged that because that is probably the biggest part of my daily practice is ensuring that the horses are being horses and that they're not being overworked and they're not being overlooked and they're not being, uh, you know, having too much projection from human influence. So that's a really big part of, of our practice. And thank goodness, like over the past 10 years of working with the same horses, it's been pretty reaffirming. Like, one of our horses is in his thirties, he's super healthy, knock on wood, you know, it's been reaffirming that like we're on the right track. Yeah. You know, and we've been working with things like certain types of boundaries as far as like how many people are allowed to be in a retreat or, you know, how many sessions we have a week and things like that. So there we really have had to move out of thinking about any kind of like monetary gain mm-hmm.<affirmative> to like the gain that we're all receiving by being a service. Right. And I'll be honest with you, the abundance has shown up, like the abundance keeps showing up, but it's not in the form of working harder or working the horses harder.

Speaker 1:

Nice. I love it.

Speaker 3:

And I help equine guided professionals to cultivate that in their own practices as well, to get out of these very in-the-box mindsets of like working harder, making more money. That that is some way being successful. Because in our practice, like I said, abundance has shown up in so many ways and so many forms, and it's not by working harder. Right. And that's beneficial for horse and very beneficial, obviously for human.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. We're in that paradigm shift where people are craving that, I think because they're, the spirit's burning out in the go, go, go attached to tech, like blah, blah, blah kind of lifestyle. And so you're like the front of the boat that's like making the way through the ice<laugh>, you know, you're that icebreaker. It's beautiful.

Speaker 3:

I feel like Spirit is the icebreaker and mm-hmm.<affirmative> and I feel like there's so many of us, how they're yourself included that are listened, right? Mm-hmm.<affirmative>. So, you know, we've got spirit showing us the way and we're just, we just have to pay attention and nature. Like, I mean, I mean this is like the dow of nature, right? Yes. This is the way, and yes, if we just pay attention to that and slow down long enough to listen to that, we have so much to learn and, and we're doing it like we're learning and we're unlearning. Yes. And that's one of the other paths through Awaken with Horses International is what we call the unlearning path. And that's just all about like, coming back to who you are and remembering who you are. I really feel like that's my role, even though I'm registered yoga teacher and this and that whole bunch of certifications that I'm not gonna discredit. I mean, I worked really hard for those certifications, but at the end of the day, what that path did for me was help me build confidence that I could share these things with others, be able to get insurance and all of those things. But really they just helped me remember who I was.

Speaker 1:

Right. So true. Thank you. Yeah, that's the whole thing right there. Yeah. That's

Speaker 3:

The whole thing right there. Yeah. Like, honestly, it's so simple. And when we're showing up here as guides or teachers or mentors or coaches, for me personally, like in my role there, I don't sit in a higher chair. Yeah. Like, I don't, for one second think that I know something that my clients or my student doesn't know. Because my role, I, I love it so much because it helps to stay so humble. Mm-hmm.<affirmative> is like, my role is just to remind them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. That's it. Oh yeah. Well, and horses will keep you humble.<laugh>.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah. That's for sure.

Speaker 1:

<laugh>. Oh, and

Speaker 3:

Children too.

Speaker 1:

<laugh>. Yes. Yes. There's lots of beauty there. I'm gonna shift gears just a tiny bit. Um, you've talked about it a few times, but not specific enough for the question I'm gonna ask you right now. I'm wondering how your intuition actually shows up.

Speaker 3:

Hmm. So in various different ways. So oftentimes it starts at a very early time of the day. In yoga, we call it[inaudible], which is like just before the sun rises. And it, it's almost like a state between sleep and wakefulness. And in that state I'll often receive intuitive information. So that's kind of where it starts in the day. And it could be anything from like, oh, we need to take this vitamin, or, oh, like, it could just be random things. But that's often like where the intuition of the day begins for me. Uh, and then there's other elements too. So, you know, there's a lot of signs and symbols. I see a lot of things like numbers, heart-shaped rocks, dry ads in trees, counting the numbers of of cause that a crow lets out, you know, different things like that kind keep me in tune with nature and, and with my intuitive nature, there's so much heather that is so hard to put into words. Like, when I'm out with the horses, in particularly, the intuition is so different. It's, it's not really in the symbols or signs, although they do show up sometimes it's in a feeling. So it becomes like a heart guided feeling of intuition as opposed to an affirmation through like numbers or visions or words. But I would say intuition is showing up for me all throughout the day, unless I purposefully turn it off, which sometimes I have to do.

Speaker 1:

Describe that. Talk about that.

Speaker 3:

So talking about that brings me to the, there's really one thing like I can think of is the integration into society. So mm-hmm.<affirmative>, my intuition is really heightened. So if I'm in, let's say like a grocery store or if I'm on the road driving or, uh, if I'm like downtown somewhere, it's almost like too much information. Okay. So because there's too much information, my practice is how can I turn it off? So for a lot of people, I'm helping them tap into their intuition mm-hmm.<affirmative>. But in my own practice, it's more about turning off my intuition, you know? And, and that's my regulation is like, okay, it's time to get really grounded and get really present in what's here right now and not so much what I'm feeling from it. Right. It's more like a witness kind of consciousness, like stepping into more of like a witness as opposed to being right in, in it as like an empath and an intuitive,

Speaker 1:

Right. Yeah. Giving you that degree of separation. Yeah. So that you are not going through the waves of feeling everything that's intuitively hitting you. Because what I talk about this a little bit is because I think there are a lot of people who are waking up and the intuitiveness can be overwhelming and like coming out of covid, people connected more with themselves, I think. And, and there was trauma work done and whatever else, different people, different paths, different opportunities to do inner work, different, maybe it was just gardening, but that's not a, just like, maybe it was yes, whatever they were drawn to do, to do what they did through Covid. But I think now that the world per se is opening up and the new normal is existing and people are coming back into crowds and into travel and into whatever, those buttons that were gently turned on for some people are now a whole bunch of baseball myths on their energy system picking up a lot of different things, which I think can become sensory overload without a practice. So I'm really interested that, and glad that you brought that up because if I understood correctly, your practice is to just be more grounded in your physical body and being more present with your physical environment.

Speaker 3:

Well Heather, what you just said really brought up like a whole big thing for me just there because when we talked about what a lot of people did to cope through covid mm-hmm.<affirmative>, what comes up for me is that they were actually in a process of remembering who they were.

Speaker 1:

A hundred percent. So

Speaker 3:

Right. So we saw a lot of sourdough bread coming out of the oven. Yes. We saw a lot of people gardening and cooking and preserving and going for nature walks. I've never seen the trails so busy, busy as I did during Covid. I know. Yeah. It was like for me, people were remembering Mm. And then to throw them back into this new quote, normal mm-hmm.<affirmative> where we are feeling the lack of alignment because we got that taste of what it was like to remember.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

So all of a sudden we have an influx of anxiety and depression and overwhelm and mental health issues and suicides and things that are beautiful are incredibly tragic coming out of the fact that we are not in alignment and we got to taste what alignment was like. So for me, anxiety has always shown up for me when things are not in alignment. And that's why when I was talking about the time when I have to turn off my intuition earlier in the call just a few minutes ago, I was saying how it's when I'm trying to integrate into society, right? Right. So like grocery stores and highways and Right. Like that for me is so unnatural. Like, it's such an unnatural environment that I have to integrate and by, by integrating it means I have to shut off my gifts really. Right? Yeah. So because I'm self-aware of that, it's not the end of the world for me. Like I can practice that and be in and out and weave in and out of that to keep myself integrated into society. But for some people that are not aware of what's actually happening for them mm-hmm.<affirmative> that can feel really uncomfortable and can feel completely overwhelming. Totally. To the point where like, they don't know what to do with themselves. So like for me, it's like, okay, covid gave a lot of people a, a collective opportunity Yes. To do some remembering.

Speaker 1:

Beautiful. Right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. And then all of a sudden now we're integrating to this new normal, which I'll be honest with you, Heather, I see it changing and I, and it's beautiful and I held that vision even before covid of like a new world. Yes. Like a new

Speaker 1:

Way<laugh>. Yes.

Speaker 3:

You know, a new way of being and living. And now collectively, I feel like we're heading back in that direction and Yeah. And it's, it's happening because this is not sustainable. No. Nature is sustainable. Yes. This is not sustainable.

Speaker 1:

<laugh>, you're right. Yay.<laugh>. Is everybody listening? Please listen. Please listen.

Speaker 3:

Let's do this

Speaker 1:

<laugh>. Yes, totally. Totally. We're we're just coming, like you say, I love your word, remembering so powerful. Yes. The tragedies of of mental health resonates with me as well when you talk about that misalignment. Really. Really. Yeah. And yeah, people, it's a dance. It's a dance and, and people can make choices. There's always choices in how much you go into like dip back into that new normal world or create a new one.

Speaker 3:

Uh, yeah. And, and I've seen so much of that. It's so inspiring. Mm-hmm.<affirmative> how many people and, and how many clients like, have come to see us and then tell us like they took that leap of faith. Yes. You know, they quit that job and they opened that forest school or Yeah. You know, like they got the loan and opened the yoga studio. Like, it's incredible how the world is changing before our eyes for the better. So for me, you know, my kind of like work with the horses has been all about letting them lead us back to ourselves, you know, and by, by helping them be themselves, we are actually remembering who we are as well. So it's a beautiful reciprocity happening. And I feel like just like civilization was led by horse, I feel like our ultimate evolution, our spiritual evolution is being led by horse. Yeah. So it's beautiful and I'm so appreciative of this opportunity, Heather, to connect with you and to speak with anyone out there who's listening right now who feels like they might feel like, you know, at a place or lost or, you know, confused, trust your body, right? Mm-hmm.<affirmative> like trust, your body knows, and when your body is, is communicating with you, you know, through anxiety or through feelings of, you know, hopelessness. Like please reach out for support to somebody. Yeah. To somebody. Because we are all, we are all feeling something right now. Yeah. So you're not alone. You're not alone. We're all feeling something because there's a huge shift. And I feel like the biggest thing is trusting that that shift is moving in a direction that's gonna serve humanity, serve the animal kingdom, and ultimately serve the healing of our planet.
