Brienne’s search for Sansa takes her to Maidenpool to find a fool. First she finds old acquaintances that drum up painful thoughts. She meets a man who will take her to the fool, for a price. Simon and Mackelly question the intentions of Nimble Dick.

Chapter Review:
Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne arrive at the gates of Maidenpool. The town has been rebuilt since Brienne was there with Jaime. At the town gates, she defends the honor of a farming couple. Bloodshed is avoided by the arrival of Ser Hyle Hunt, captain of the gate. He and Brienne have history, and it’s immediately clear it’s not a good one.

Once inside the town, Hunt takes Brienne and Pod to Lord Randyll Tarly. When Tarly finishes serving justice to the townsfolk, he meets Brienne. He tells her Sansa won’t be at the Eyrie, as Brienne was considering. Lady Lysa Arryn is dead. The news causes Brienne to reconsider her plans to travel to the Vale.

When Tarly takes his leave, Hunt offers to show Brienne to the Stinking Goose, where she hopes to find news of the fool she’s hunting. Brienne has no interest in spending more time with the knight. She leaves for the tavern alone. Once there, she eventually meets Nimble Dick Crabb. The man explains that he tricked a fool looking for passage to Essos for him and two girls. Dick sent them to a long-unused smuggler’s cove. He offers to take Brienne and Pod to it, for a hefty price. Brienne warily agrees.
