The Movements: A History Podcast
Having defeated the coup, the militias of the Popular Front struggle to hold onto territory as the rebel generals control the bulk of the armed forces. The anarchists and the marxist POUM launch a social revolution, irking the anti-revolutionary socialists and communists. Meanwhile, the world watches intently as the nationalists close in on Madrid. The poorly armed militias descend on the capital to defend the Republic from the elite Army of Africa and the combined forces of the Nazi and Italian modern mechanized armies. Nearly as important is the battle of worldwide public opinion, as journalists clash with their editors in the propaganda war. The Movements is a leftist history and politics podcast.
