Speaker 1:

Today I want to talk to you about your email list. You know I've told you many a times that, when it comes to unhinged podcast episodes, I always seem to get inspired by conversations that are happening in Facebook groups, and it's because the questions being asked are good questions, but the answers are not always correct, which is why I always tell you find your group of people, get into those groups where you know you're getting confirmed information that are research-based, that people have actually applied and are successful with within their business, which is why, if you're not already a member of Insiders, you need to be in there. We're making sure you get the most up-to-date information while giving you that accountability. Making sure you get the most up-to-date information while giving you that accountability. So today I want to talk to you about whether or not, when it comes to your email, you should have double opt-in set up. So, with your email service provider whether that is Kit, formerly known as ConvertKit, flowdesk, mailerlite, mailchimp, whoever it is you want to have double opt-in set up, and here's the reason why, and also here's the way you can tell if you don't have it set up, you don't have it set up.

Speaker 1:

You're going to have a bunch of unconfirmed subscribers. Those people are on your list and you're likely paying for them, even though you can't send them any emails. They are on there and what has happened is you don't have double opt-in and when they went for confirmation, it goes straight into their spam and they never end up on your list. We're not talking about inactive people. Inactive people are those that haven't opened an email in a while. They haven't clicked anything. Those are just inactive subscribers which you can clean your list with. When you have unconfirmed subscribers sitting on your list, it's a problem because they're just sitting there and there's no way for you to go through and get in contact with them. And technically, if you were to email them and try to get them to then get confirmed, you're going against regulations as far as your email and how people can get onto your list. So you want to have it set up for double opt-in. So what happens is they've got a form or a landing page that you have created. You're offering them something in exchange for their email address, like a guide or a webinar or something of value to them. You're not simply saying subscribe to get the latest updates. Instead, you're offering them something in exchange Now, once they put their email address in, they do not automatically go onto your list.

Speaker 1:

What happens is, with double opt-in, is you then send an email to them where, in order to confirm that they want to be a confirmed subscriber, they need to click a button which will then download whatever you are offering them. This is why it is so important to have something that you are giving in exchange for their email. You want to have double opt-in set up. You want to have people that are wanting to be there.

Speaker 1:

If you have people that are getting onto your list that have not double opted in, have not filled out a form and then also had to have a button subscribe, that's a problem, and people will say, oh well, my people just don't want to take the extra step. Then guess what? They're never going to take the extra step to buy something from you or to click anything you offer in your email that you send to them with your broadcast that you will regularly send. It's important that you have people on your list, that it's not just a vanity number, but you have active, engaged subscribers.

Speaker 1:

So make sure that, if you don't already have double opt-in set up for your list, that you do so, and also make sure that you are offering them something in exchange so that they can download it, they can confirm, confirm their spot. Whatever it is that you're offering, they can make sure that they get that. You want to have this set up so it's ready to go Now. Again, as a reminder, all Unhinged listeners, we give you 40% off Insiders, which is my membership. That is monthly, where you get weekly trainings as well as a monthly group coaching call.
